Zoe's at Fairmont Chateau Laurier
Overall we enjoyed the afternoon tea service. The food (sandwiches, desserts and scones) were tasty and nicely presented. The tea (creamy Earl Grey) was delicious. Our primary server was very good however when the tea tray arrived, a different server presented it and she did a slip shod rushed job of describing the items on the tray. Our table was in a sunny room added on to the main dining area but the area was less than clean. The floor needed sweeping and there were crumbs, dirt and sugar spilled in spots. 60's music was playing in the adjoining dining room; somehow I had envisioned classical music or something more suited to the occasion. Our table was very wobbly but a young man was able to prop up the legs with a napkin and made it more stable. The table was also too small for the items placed on it. Everything comes at once so it did get rather crowded. It was good, one time experience. Not sure I would repeat it. Highlights were the egg salad pinwheels and the lavender tarts. And the scones were delicious.
Dear Robbie, We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Zoe’s, overall. Your feedback is invaluable to us and you can rest assured that we take such comments to heart. We look forward to welcoming you again one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
High tea is nice experience, in a very beautiful atmosphere with great service.
Dear Lisa, We agree that our Afternoon Tea experience is one not to be missed. We look forward to welcoming you back one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Very beautiful setting and excellent food.
Dear Bella, Thank you for your compliments. We look forward to welcoming you back one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The table was beautiful, corner with a window and lounge chair. The servers were lovely and friendly and the food was the best I've ever had
Dear Tara, We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to Zoe’s. We look forward to welcoming you back one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
It is not worth the cost. There is nothing really impressive about the quality of food, presentation or service. We had high hopes for this experience. A service to share would have been better as there is a lot of food and that's half the price!
Our mission is to turn moments into memories and I regret that we failed to do so during your recent visit to Zoe’s. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Hotel ambience is very nice. Service was less than expected for location. Waiter didn’t come by often to check on our meal -over two hours for dinner. Managers weren’t around either to check on diners.
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We regret the lack of service. Hopefully, you will return one day, allowing us to show you the high level of service that we are known for! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
This wss the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant - waited 40 minutes for a drink after being seated. Never got to order dinner becsuse we waited so long. Our waitress was rude and clearly stressed out from being too busy. Terrible experience. 0/5
Dear Paul, Your experience is certainly not typical nor is it acceptable. We pride ourselves on the personal service we provide to our guests. We hope you return one day soon, and give us the chance to delight you! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Overall it was a very nice lunch . The prices were high for the amount of food and wine received. I realize Ottawa is an expensive city but still. Our server Isabel was wonderful; very attentive and personable.
Dear Barbara, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. We agree that we have the best colleagues in the business. We hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
High tea was good service but slow and the hostess was confused about seating saying I booked yesterday so I could not get another table I asked for yet it sat empty the whole time I was there
Dear Ann, We regret your disappointing experience and poor impression you received. This is certainly not acceptable to us. We hope you return one day, allowing us the opportunity to show you the high level of hospitality that we are known for. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The venue is absolutely beautiful but for the price I would not do this again. The food was not that great, there are much better afternoon tea or brunch experiences in the city.
First, it took the server 15 minutes to bring over the tea menu when several people who arrived after us received menus before us. Then she made note of my fish allergy but then forgot to leave the salmon crepe off my plate. They did not pipe the liver mousse onto my boyfriends canapé, we asked for a replacement one which they said they would bring and then forgot to do.
We got the nut free dessert option which I do not recommended so if you have a nut allergy I would really skip this. The non nut free desserts looked beautiful but the nut free options were a stale cupcake, over sweetened jelly and what tasted like store bought dry chocolate cake logs and dry chocolate mint cookies.
I had really high expectations for this since it was a Valentine’s present during winterlude. The price was an extra $10 because it was winterlude but we thought it would be worth it. I am thoroughly disappointed.
We regret your disappointing experience. Hopefully, you will give us another chance and return one day soon. We are confident you will be pleased that you did. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
For $70 I expect clotted cream not whipping cream.
Too many sweets - should have the option of fewer sweets and more sandwiches.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Rest assured that we will share your comments with our Executive Chef and his team. We do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Great location, views of Ottawa downtown. Steak was excellent. I was a bit surprised that for Valentine’s menu chef selected to serve 1/2 chicken . I observed reactions from surrounding Tables where ladies ordered a chicken and were shocked to see a huge portion presented. I would expect something more of a fine-dining selection for Valentines table d'hote menu. The Statesman cocktail was a highlight! Overall , the visit was a great experience. Thank you to all staff working for us at the Valentine’s Day!
We are delighted that you Valentine’s Day celebration was a memorable one. We hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Ambience was perfect !Our server was informative and friendly. Charcuterie board 4 choices of prosciutto, blue cheese, hock meat loaf, hard cheese, almonds, cranberries, chutney, olive varieties, crackers was outstanding. We started with the non alcohol coconut drink Delicious!Mains were pork belly, steak peppercorn, & regular steak. 3 of us enjoyed this culinary experience. Exceptional service knowledgeable of history of Building. Beautiful!
Dear Shirley, We strive to provide memorable moments and it is always nice to hear when we have been successful. We hope to welcome you again one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I believe her name is Melissa. She was amazing and very pleasant as our server. Food was amazing and great selection of teas.
We will certainly share your compliments with Melissa. She will be pleased that you took the time to recognize her service. We are delighted that your visit was an enjoyable one and we hope to see you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Beautiful place to treat yourself and others for Afternoon Tea. Impeccable service with amazing tea, sandwiches and sweets.
Dear Henry, Our mission is to create memorable moments and it is always a pleasure to hear compliments from our guests. We look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
This was a rather disappointing Afternoon Tea. On the one hand, we had an exceptional seating - lucked out and probably got the best seat in the house (comfy lounge chairs at the front corner of the hotel overlooking Sussex and Rideau), so that was fantastic!
The service and the server were both excellent. Just LOVED the whimsical tea cups and dishes, and the lovely tiered serving trays. The waitress was seasoned, unobtrusive and so friendly!
The food, however, was bland and boring. Very very disappointing. It looked so pretty, yet was exceedingly disappointing. There are far tastier high tea offerings in Ottawa.
The price was also quite exaggerated - especially given the quality of the food. A few days prior to our reservation, we received an email from the hotel advising us that the price for the tea was being increased by $10 per person adult. I pushed back and requested that the original price we booked the tea for should be respected. In response, I was re-assured that we would be given the originally booked price and that a note would be added to our reservation.
Guess what happened? We were billed the increased the price ANYWAY and, to add insult to injury, our 4 year old's tea service was jacked up as well. What an EPIC FAIL.
$175 (before gratuities!) for two adult afternoon teas and a princess tea. Just ridiculous.
Also, a note to those considering the afternoon tea. It is not like it used to be. We found that the majority of patrons were in their late teens and early twenties and were attending in groups and sharing a tea platter amongst 2 or 3 people. So it made for a loud and less civilized afternoon tea, more along the lines of a bar feeling. That can be okay if that's what you are looking for, but if you want a traditional high tea ambience, you can't get it at Zoe's anymore.
Bottom line: overpriced, bland, but pretty. Maybe spend your $$$$ elsewhere?
Dear Carla, We sincerely regret the overall disappointing experience you felt during Afternoon Tea. Your experience is not typical of our usual high standards of excellent service. We hope you return one day and allow us the chance to regain your trust and loyalty. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
My four year old daughter and myself went for high tea and had a magical experience. The staff were kind and attentive and made my daughter feel like a princess. We will be making this an annual event!
Dear Sarah, Our Afternoon Tea Experience is one not to be missed. We are so pleased that you and your daughter had a memorable visit and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The menu provided a great and inspiring diversity of tastes - we loved the pork belly and the seafood salad
Dear Thomas, We are so pleased that your visit to Zoe’s was so enjoyable and we hope to welcome you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Great friendly service, lovely atmosphere, and scrumptious food. Over all a wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back
Dear Tina, We cannot wait to welcome you back….hopefully, one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The food was a disappointment for the cost. To many sweets as compared to the variety of sandwiches.
The tea selection was good.
On the positive side the service and location was outstanding.
Dear Marc, We regret that you were disappointed with the food offerings during your recent visit to enjoy Afternoon Tea. Your feedback is important to us and you may rest assured that we will share your comments with our Executive Chef and his team. We hope to welcome you again one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We had a wonderful experience enjoying high tea for my husband’s birthday. Wonderful service, delicious food!
Our Afternoon Tea experience is a perfect choice for a birthday celebration! We are delighted that you and your husband enjoyed your visit and we hope to welcome you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The objective was to introduce my granddaughter to high tea and she was thrilled with the experience. I would have liked more conscientious service and more savoury treats in the offerings.
Dear Jennifer, What a lovely tradition you have started! We are so pleased that your granddaughter enjoyed the experience! Thank you for your feedback and you can rest assured that we will share it with our Chef and his team. We hope to welcome you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
It was a fun experience for mother's birthday with kids and grandkids, a bit pricey for what you get though the food was decent overall - some of it unimpressive (the Moroccan egg salad was completely bland, the smoked salmon was a bit too heavily 'fishy', and there was a weird green and purplish-brown cookie that was just a contradictory bundle of unmatched flavours), but the prosecco was sparkly, the tea was hot and flavourful, and the scones, cream and jam were lovely. Oh and I loved the radish and goat cheese toasts, I'll be stealing that idea!
We are delighted that your mother’s birthday celebration was enjoyed by all! Your comments will certainly be shared with our Chef and his team and you can rest assured that we will certainly take your recommendations into consideration. We hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The restaurant was not well kept. There was sauce dripping down the window beside me. The dishes on the table were dirty. The service staff tried to carry to many things in an unhygienic manor and I saw them drop take out boxes on top of my plate before serving it. Will not go back and would not recommend it. Not worth the price they charge.
Dear Alison, Please accept my personal apologies for the poor impression you received in Zoe’s. This is not acceptable to us and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are confident that your next visit will be much improved. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Service was impeccable! Food was delicious.... a great assortment of sandwiches/tart...several layers of smoked salmon between thin crepes, and my very favorite, a pulled beef on horseradish sauce tart, among others. Desert was good, the mulled wine macarons tasted good but they don't measure up to my home made ones (just saying, I'm known in our inner circle as the queen of macarons!). : - ) We were a group of 4 ladies, celebrating a 60th birthday. We all enjoyed the scones, yummy! The birthday girl got an additional, special birthday desert, that was such a nice touch. Many thanks for this memorable tea.
Dear Lili, We agree that Zoe’s Afternoon Tea is a wonderful choice for a celebration. We are delighted that you all enjoyed your visit with us and we hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Food was overpriced and not worth even half what we paid - the burger was bland and seemed to have a pre-formed patty. Friends weren’t happy with their salad either. Crazy that at those prices, we ended up paying 15 bucks for some bar nuts and olives. Am happy and able to pay these prices, but expect quality. Ottawa has so much better places.
We regret not meeting your expectations on this occasion. Please rest assured that this is certainly not typical of our usual high level of excellence. We hope you return one day soon; we are confident that you will be pleased that you did. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
It was my fourth time for High Tea at the Chateau. Each time, it was a memorable experience. I enjoy it very much. It is so special. Thank you
Dear Cecilia, We agree that our Afternoon Tea experience is one not to be missed. We thank you for your loyalty and look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
The service and atmosphere were great ! Very disappointed by the food. The scones tasted bitter, the desserts were overly sweet, the finger food lacked flavour.
I will not return.
We regret your disappointment. Rest assured that we will review your comments with our Executive Chef and his team. Your experience is certainly not typical and we do hope you give us another chance by returning one day soon. We are confident that you will be glad you did! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
High quality high tea!
We agree that our Afternoon Tea is an experience not to be missed. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit and we hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I was taking a friend out for a lunch and grabbed the bill at the end. I was shocked at the price, 154.67$ for high tea for 2. I think I was over charged, but didn't want to make an embarrassing scene in front of my friend since she had never been before. I don't think I will go back.
Dear Bridget, We regret the disappointing experience you and your friend encountered during your recent visit to Zoe’s for Afternoon Tea. Our Afternoon Tea experience is $55 + tax and gratuities weekdays and $62 + on weekends. We do hope you return one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I had booked this for my partner and I to enjoy on a special weekend getaway, and I was not disappointed by the service, or food! Dave was very attentive and polite. I would definitely eat here again, the atmosphere was amazing, and I would highly recommend eating here. Thank you so much for making the end of our weekend so special with your amazing service!!!
Dear Ashley, We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit with us. We agree that Davis is a wonderful colleague; he will be so pleased that you took the time to recognize his service. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I took my mother for her 73rd birthday to High Tea. We had a wonderful time. The service was impeccable and our server, Dave, was amazing and very helpful in explaining all the teas. We felt welcomed and at home. We were fortunate to have the corner table with the bay window - giving us a great view of Ottawa. All of this help make a perfect afternoon. We will be back...
Dear Nathalie, We are so happy to hear that your mother’s birthday tea celebration was a memorable one and we hope you welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Went for a girls bday high tea. Everything was lovely. My two asks were I mentioned we were celebrating a 30th birthday and nothing special was done. We went on January 3rd and was told th Christmas trees would still be up and they were not but we still paid the "holiday tea" price.
Dear Tiziana, We regret your disappointment that the birthday you were celebrating was not acknowledged and the fact that the Trees of Hope Christmas Trees had been dismantled. The Holiday Tea is a special menu designed for the festive season that was offered through January 5. Thank you for your valuable feedback and we hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Tea time, it was very pleasant, a bit slow service. Gréât with kids, a special experience
However I would warn them to bring a sweater. Was cold and the servers seemed a bit disorganized
The wait - with a reservation - took over an hour. We were the last to be seated for our time, even though we arrived earlier. Two of the guests were gifted a free glass of champagne, but nothing was offered for the other two guests who didn't drink.
The food and experience after we were seated however was fantastic!
We value your comprehensive review and appreciate your sharing your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your overall visit to Zoe’s and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Zoe's is a beautiful restaurant with a lot of natural light, floor to ceiling windows, an ambience catered to both families and couples looking to share a special event. The newly renovated space is simply stunning. Would go back in a heartbeat!
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Wilfrid’s. We hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Lovely traditional tea over the Holidays, very enjoyable and relaxing.
The food was excellent, but our waiter forgot to bring the prosecco that we ordered. That was no big deal, because the servings were so generous that we were glad not to have a sparkling drink after all. The real drawback was the noise level. When I have been to Zoe's before, I have always had a standalone table. In this recent visit, there was a long upholstered bench with several tables pulled up to it. The tables were close together, and unfortunately, there was a table of very loud women next to us. At many times during our meal, we could not hear each other and could not have a conversation. The food is lovely, but for the price, I do expect to be able to carry on a conversation.
We value your comprehensive review and regret your disappointing experience at Zoe’s. We appreciate your sharing your feedback with us to ensure we are better able to provide great service in the future. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We went for high tea - food was excellent but way overpriced....for a small tray of sandwiches (which were delicious) and a few deserts and tea cost a total of $149.00 I expected to pay a lot but I think that was a bit much.
We value your review and appreciate your sharing your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your overall visit to Zoe’s and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
