Rats Restaurant - Grounds for Sculpture

We always enjoy our experience at Rat’s. The service, food, and atmosphere are always first-rate!
The table arrangement was extremely poor. If I know I were to sit at that corner near the door that has tons of traffic bringing cold wind, I would go to another restaurant!
Wonderful dining experience from the ambiance to the service to the delicious food.
This is not the first time we have dined at Rat’s. Each time we hope it would get better since we love the grounds. This time was the worst. The service was terrible. Servers were very unprofessional. I the better server was dumping water from the pilligrino bottle into our glass just like a 3 year old would do. The server who came to pick up the plates was rude and was literally pulling the plates from our table. The check tool forever to come! We were nonetheless polite and pretended to not notice all this.
The food was very very average. We were a group of 4 so had the steak, trout, pork Switzerland’s and scallops. For $33 I got 4 scallops! Well salted but not really tasty. The beet salad was the only tasty part of the meal. Once again very disappointed. Don’t think we will be visiting Rat’s again considering there are plenty farm to table restaurants around with MUCH better service and food.
The restaurant is warm and cosy. The bar area is uniquely decorated. Both the hostess and our waiter offered recommendations when asked. The sauce on the potato ravioli was delicious. Would definitely recommend Rat's to our friends.
Wonderful service, gorgeous setting. The bread was very good. The food was not. Overcooked pork schnitzel you could barely cut with a steak knife. A traditional French menu spoiled by bad cooking and by gimmicks on the menu (like salted popcorn ice cream). If you can make a creme brûlée, (but I had lost faith by dessert) you don’t dump pineapple on it. Choose nouveau or traditional, both great! but this was badly prepared or just silly food.
Beautiful venue, great food, outstanding service- what more can you ask for. We enjoyed the salade verte, so fresh it tasted like it just came from the garden; escargots delightfully flavored and served sans shells; coq au vin which the chef deboned so my husband could easily eat (he is blind) and a very generous serving of duck breast with a light, sweet cherry sauce. All perfectly paired with GFS wines and of course, we can’t forget the delicious popovers! We completed our dinner with a refreshing apricot lime sorbet and after dinner drink. And Maynor and team took great care of us! This is our annual anniversary dinner that we’ve enjoyed for 17 years! Thank you, Rat’s!
Ahh Rats. We love this restaurant. We have probably been here seven or eight times and the food is always outstanding. The service in our most recent visits has not been up to par. Service is very slow, wait staff inattentive, even hostessing was not efficient. (Had reservation for table of 5 for several weeks, but when we arrived they still had no idea where we were sitting. Then, they put us in the bar area and we asked to move and were told it would be a long wait. My husband had to make a little bit of a fuss and then miraculously we were seated in the main dining room within a few minutes. Sadly, on this particular night, the staff seemed to forget what good customer service is all about) So, if you go for the food/ambience (which is always good) keep in mind the service level will probably not match the pricing/level of restaurant.
Dinner at Rats was a celebration of my wife's birthday. Our server, Alicia, greeted us at our table and took very good care of us through our dinner experience. Our appetizers were excellent, our entrees superb and dessert was terrific. The night was a success. I would recommend this to everyone and we will be back.
The day after Thanksgiving lunch is an annual tradition for the family and it never disappoints.
Simply the brst
The transformation of the Thanksgiving offering from a classic sit down dinner to a buffet was a bit disappointing. The food was good, but the starters and desserts were lacking compared to prior years.
Superb service! Sent my parents for their 43rd wedding anniversary. They loved it!! The manager called me when he learned that I wanted to secretly cover their bill, he asked me some questions regarding the occasion and my vision and the staff delivered!! Thank you, Rats Restaurant!!
We had a lovely lunch at Rats yesterday 11/26/2019. My friend had the beet salad and I had the seafood salad which was so plentiful I couldn't finish it. We also tried the roasted cauliflower. It is such a beautiful place I can't wait to come back.
A step back in time. When we walked through the door we were no longer in New Jersey. Food, Service and ambiance exceeded our expectations. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and wanted a very special meal and we weren’t disappointed.
My wife had never been there and needless to say she will visit again...soon.
Escargot, French Onion soup, followed by potato and leek ravioli and Croque Madame. Each course was delicious.
Overall experience was a 9. The reason I’m not giving it a 10 is, we didn’t get to walk the Grounds for Sculpture because it was raining.
A definite must visit. Can only imagine what it’s going to look like for the holidays, but we will let you know.
The restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff was friendly. The food was good for most of us. I got the seafood salad which was not very good. We had lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It is very expensive.
The food was cold... the server was afraid to come to our table... but the amplifier is amazing... & the bathroom was clean...
Food served was Luke cold very disappointing
Phenomenal Service! Food was great especially the bread and cheeses.
My wife and I and a Spanish exchange student and a German exchange student thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was a pleasure to be able to demonstrate to our two visiting students how pleasant a properly executed dining experience can be. This was our my second visit to Rats. The first was several years ago for an anniversary. It is impossible to tell which experience was more enjoyable.
Birthday ... baby crying and banging
The Bloody Mary drink was garnished to perfection. The mussels were adored with sweet shallots, garlic and broth, the onion soup was top with cheese, bread and the broth with a bounty of onions. It was perfect for our lunch on a cold raining day!
started with rose champagne which wasn’t sparkling at all, hence from an old open bottle. Onion soup wasn’t hot and the toast under the cheese seemed to be there for hours. Kids burger came with cheese though we explicitly ordered without. It just came with a bun no salad or tomato. I ordered the duck breast which came out cold!! The 2 glasses of wine ($14 each) tasted like a wine from Trader Joe.
I got a fresh Glas of rose champagne and a new plain burger and a warmer duck breast and they even took off the burger and duck from the bill, but that was anything that could save the evening.
It was by far my worst dining experience ever.
It was my moms 83rd birthday. Place was nice. Service was good. Food was awful. French o ion soul was cold. Burger was cold and and so were potato leek ravioli. Everything was sent back. They did take money off the bill.
Wedding anniversary brunch on Sunday. We had a wonderful time. Service, food, ambiance, was all terrific.
Outstanding food, great drinks, very cool atmosphere. We’ll be coming back!!
Best food I've ever had hands down. So many flavors, textures, contrasting elements. Full of whimsy and fun like the grounds themselves.
Pleasant atmosphere. Great food. Portions are good for the price. Decorations are interesting and pleasing. Comfy cozy place to dine.
Rats is a very nice restaurant with good food and fabulous art in its surrounding environment. A good place to celebrate a special occasion.
The waiter had a very thick accent and spoke softly, so he was hard to understand. The food was excellent, but the portion was extremely small and was not filling at all. My friend had to get a chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A after we left. Not once were we asked how the food was during our meal, it was only asked when we had finished.
Our lunch was amazing! Scallops sweet tender and perfectly seared. Desserts were scrumptious!
Rat's is a great restaurant, the food and service was outstanding. I have been there many times and always wonderful.
Good meal, we would go back however, it's not a must go....
Lovely experience. Cozy rooms with fireplace. Good food and service
Overall excellent place. Great service and food. Beautiful restaurant
I have been to Rats a number of times and have always loved what I got but was very disappointed this time.
Service was slow - we had to ask for bread after our server said she was bringing it and we didn’t get any. Our French onion soup was lukewarm and when she said she would correct it, it looked like someone just microwaved it for a minute and brought back the partially tastes soup with no way of knowing whose was whose. And it still wasn’t very hot.
Food and service was excellent. Would highly recommend
The perfect setting for a get together with friends! Such a
Cozy atmosphere 😉
We had a reservation for 8:15 for my husband’s birthday. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. They offered to pay for a round of drinks. The food was slow to come out. My daughters were exhausted and didn’t even want the complimentary dessert with their kids’ meal. I used to think they had wonderful kids’ meals. The chicken fingers used to be homemade. My daughter said these tasted like the school cafeteria. I was sorry I chose Rats for his birthday dinner. It was disappointing!!!
We have dined here many times but Sat night was very disappointing. While the service was good, the food was mediocre at best. Currently the menu is limited and uninspired. Will not be dining here for awhile.
