Great food and great service in a wonderful atmosphere.
We greatly enjoyed eating at the Red Rooster. From our server to the food, the whole experience was 5 star. The Osso Bucco was perfectly prepared, the portions were perfect and the recommendations for wine and dessert were spot on. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Dinner for 4 during covid:
We ordered 2 orders of the "Duck two ways" as well as 2 orders of the veal osso buco along with an order of the mushroom soup, onion soup, and the beet salad.
Reviews of the soups were outstanding, the beet salad was good, although perhaps a bit underwhelming.
I personally had the Duck, though I prefer my duck crunchy and l'orange the served duck was excellent. The duck was served with a white bean and vegetable cassoulet which was also good but the beans could have used a little bit more time on the burner, they were a bit stiffer than expected- this actually carried over to the pasta for the osso buco which also could have used a little more cook time. The osso buco itself was excellent as well, although perhaps slightly fatty.
For me, flavor trumps any other problems and our meals were excellent. We clocked in at about $70 a person (tip included) for an app, entrée, and beverage per person which I felt was a fair price for a relaxed and excellent meal in a classy establishment.
Great food and lovely ambiance. Wish I could have also tried breakfast.
Lovely restaurant, amazing food and excellent service
This was an anniversary dinner. Accordingly, we ordered a bottle of Verve Cliquot. After the champagne was opened and put in the chiller, we had to pour the entire bottle ourselves. No napkin on the chiller. An expensive bottle of bubbly should be poured by the server. Regardless of how polite and nice the server is, it's just poor service to ignore serving etiquette.
Very cozy ambiance. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. Really enjoyed the cocktails too!
During these times of Covid-19, nothing seems to be the same or dependable or predictable. We love dining at the Red Rooster. It was quiet, empty and somber, but that's how things are these days. The food was just OK. The service was terrific and our waiter did his best to be prompt, efficient and friendly -- at a distance. Four of us for dinner at almost $400 was a bit much. We did have cocktails, the salads were expensive, and the entres were a bit overpriced. Just saying that for an off night, middle of the week, not many customers, and a limited menu, it was expensive. But we'll be back. We support local businesses and were glad to have a nice place to dine and good service.
Overall I felt it was a little corporate for Woodstock, while the outside of the Inn is breathtaking and quaint at the same time, the dining room at Red Rooster feels like a nice, but generic restaurant.
Loved the menu, our food was delicious and overall it was a wonderful dining experience- I just felt like I was at a conference hotel in Chicago and not a historic inn in Vermont.
Great Breakfast and service
Loved this destination dining spot. Cheese plate, salad and desserts were yummy. Didn't love the frozen mini shrimp on the halibut entree. Would love to see more vegetarian and seafood options.
The Inn was beautiful and the menu was awesome. A couple of glitches in the kitchen but easily overlooked.
We were informed about the 20% service charge, but I interpreted that would be an automatic gratuity that was added. When the final bill came, and I was still expected to leave a tip, which I did, but I was disappointed.
In short, I believe the extra 20% on top of already substantial pricing is something that will not make me return anytime soon.
Amy is a wonderful server and a true asset to your restaurant
Always good and welcoming. Great ambience and solid food. Service is great.
The food was absolutely delicious! The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating! This was the third time we’ve eaten at The Red Rooster and it won’t be our last!!
Good food presented well. We appreciated the friendly staff.
Expectations are always met when returning to The Red Rooster. Comfort and attentive service brings me back time and time again.
Boy, where to start. We had dinner at Richardson’s Tavern at the Inn last time and it was stellar. Spot on service, wonderful staff, and amazing food. Flash forward a couple months and go left at the fireplace instead of right to land at the more formal dining room. I know it is the same kitchen, and it is certainly the same menu at both venues at any given time. However the food and service was just not up to par this time. We had to ask for bread and then were served cold and stale rolls. My halibut was well cooked, but the sauce was rather “muddy” and I could not tell whether I was spearing a vegetable or a small shrimp until I was eating it. Our server was a very nice man, but I feel like he may have been held up by the kitchen. The time between courses was so long that from the time we all sat down to getting the check felt like a marathon. So unfortunate given that the dining room was not even busy. I will chalk it up to an off night, though very disappointing and not one that inspires a return visit.
I don’t know what those people below my review are talking about, we had a very nice evening and the wait staff could not have been more pleasant. The food was good. The drinks were perfect. The desert was to die for. We will be back for more!
Absolutely amazing. Food was phenomenal!
Perfectly fine glass of white to start. Mushroom chowder was amazing and thankfully light on cream/butter. Husband had onion soup, which he liked but didn't rave about. Both soups came out lukewarm and had to be sent back for reheating. The cup of mushroom came back piping hot, the bowl of onion came back warm (same microwave, same time, we guessed). Very nice special Tuscan red wine for dinner. We both had the duck. This is where dinner started to decline in yumminess. Duck leg was nicely confited, but breast was very overcooked with tough meat and flabby skin. The roast veg was undercooked, and the white beans hadn't even seen the salt shaker. Lovely maple cake for dessert (more like toffee pudding) for me, and pretty good flourless cake for hubby. A generous pour of good bourbon for the non-driver (me!) for after dinner. Extremely COVD-responsible.
Everything was amazing. The only disconcerting thing was a couple dining in the restaurant, who were not staying at the inn, had only been in Vermont a couple of days. They were not quarantining and the inn allowed them to dine in the restaurant anyway. This goes against state pandemic guidelines and I will be reporting this to the state health department.
The hostess was accusatory of myself and our party not following the Vermont COVID Guidance, which was not the case, and she never asked us the recommended questions at check in. She then sent the Manager over to our table to lecture us and tell me that she would "Allow us to stay today", even though I explained that I fully understood the rules and we were 100% within compliance, which she didn't listen to anything I said and continued to repeat herself several times, then sent another server over to jokingly say the same thing again.
The servers were too busy socializing among themselves to attend to our table and refile beverages, but were quick to bring the check and add an automatic 20% gratuity onto it for a party of 4!
I would not recommend this location for anyone that expects good service from an establishment.
Fantastic! The service was friendly and warm while being cautious and careful due to COVID. The restaurant is well spread out in the space and comfortable, we felt safe. The food was excellent and the drinks even better! The size of the large filet impressed us and the onion soup was so good. The chocolate cake dessert was the only item we tried that was not up to the usual resort par - it was chalky, like maybe it was made incorrectly that evening. The accompanying banana ice cream was outstanding though - and the other maple cake dessert was, of course, to die for.
We had to waive down a waiter to get served, the food was meh, and we had a better experience in town. However, as a guest, we loved the convenience and the ambience! It’s so nice to get drinks at the bar and sit out on the lawn. Over all, this is a solid choice—but probably better for breakfast or lunch than dinner.
We were celebrating our would-be wedding date. The covid protocols were well respected, the ambiance didn’t suffer at all and people were enjoying themselves at a distance. The service and food were outstanding and the wine list was impressive. We will definitely be back!
Loved the begian waffles and pancakes! And very flavorful especially with the Vermont maple syrup (which they give you ample amount of). Breakfast potatoes were very flavorful too!
Peaceful and quiet adequate spacing lighting good for reading menu while allowing for ambiance
Menu with good choices. Serving size perfect to enjoy dessert and coffee after our meal.
Server Luke very professional yet attentive
Overall I felt this restaurant was underwhelming. The food was average and overpriced. Service was slow and the setting was mediocre. I was expecting more out of the Woodstock Inn, and I would not eat here again if I return to Woodstock.
Great food and ambience, just wish there was a bit more of a menu selection.
A relaxing lunch at Red Rooster has become a 6 week pandemic tradition for this 70 y/o NH couple- always at least 2 new meal items on the menu, at least one seasonal.
Excellent food, good service, nice decor and low noise level. Would recommend to anyone seeking a "Vermont"-type experience. Liked the food so much wish the portions were a bit larger.
The service and the safety protocols at the restaurant are excellent. We found the menu a little limited, but the quality of the food was good.
The place was empty, the staff was vocal about out of town guests! Covid fright!! The meal was good, our waiter was rude, and then he put a 20% tip on the bill for himself! (There were 2 of us!) management said because of Covid, that’s what they’re doing! Can someone please explain to me what the hell Covid has to do with a waiter, rude at that, giving himself a tip??? Oh! And we were told they don’t take cash at this time!!????? SERIOUSLY?
Food cold - not what was ordered first time - and 3 of us had undercooked extremely rare meats after asking for medium well done. Ordered cappucino but machine was broken. Ordered a coke that was completely flat. Special dinner and was put next to a large open doorway to the porch so everyone froze. Not a dinner that anyone wants to repeat and so sad since we were so excited to go to the Inn.
The breakfast was exceptional coupled with great service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food was good. Service was ok to good.
Food a little less impressive than in the past but figured Pandemic supplies related. Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff. Very safe around covid precautions.
Had a wonderful lunch at the Inn. Entranced required a scan. Impressed with the clearing and Cleaning of tables during COVID. Seating was appropriately social distanced which helped ease any fears.
Waitress was very friendly.
The Woodstock Inn is lovely.
Glad to be able to enjoy dining out. Well done.
