My husband and I had lunch at the Red Rooster as a celebration of our anniversary. We enjoyed our entrees of the burger and Braised Short Ribs - both were excellent. Our server was terrific and exceeded our expectations. It was a wonderful experience and we look forward to returning in the future!
Food, Service, and Ambience exceeded our expectations. We will definitely plan to dine hear again when visiting the Woodstock area.
My wife and I sought a quiet, elegant lunch and time to reflect in Woodstock and found both at the Woodstock Inn. We arrived earlier than our reservation and Dana, the hostess, was gracious and instantly accommodating. Kudos to our server, Makenna, a delightful young woman of intellect and gracious manners who made us feel as if we were in her home. She is a gem. We will be back.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Saturday and sharing the very nice review! We are honored by your kind words and will be sure to celebrate with Dana and Makenna. Our entire team works tirelessly and we are always delighted to see them recognized. We very much look forward to your next visit. Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We arrived ahead of time for our reservation but were seated right away. Service was great, the food was delicious and the the ambiance was such that we could enjoy a nice conversation. The electricity went out and we lost some of the lighting, but it was lunch hour and so it did not bother us. There was no explanation about it however so we were left wondering and made for conversation. I asked for the chef salad with shrimp addition and hold the onions, which they did! I also had a cup of squash&apple soup which was very good but I wished they had served a roll or crackers to go with it. Someone else had pork schnitzel sandwich but he found it a little dry. Another in our party had the farmer burger and said it was good. We ordered glasses of rose and bloody marys too which were all good. I would recommend the Red Rooster for lunch.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Saturday. I'm happy we were able to accommodate you and you enjoyed the ambience and hospitality. I especially enjoy the Heirloom Squash and Apple Soup, made with our own organic squash and served with crispy house-made crouton. When you visit again, just ask and we’ll be happy to provide you with a different accompaniment if you like! We are very busy, though, so be sure to reserve well in advance. Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Everything was great. Our food server Mackenna was excellent. Very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent.
Thank you for the very nice review of our lunch on Saturday and the terrific service and hospitality Makenna and the team extended to you! Our new autumn menu has been very well received and we are already planning for more exciting and innovative ideas for the winter. We hope you’ll be able to return often! Warm regards, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Disappointing, below par food, high prices, poor value
Thank you for choosing The Red Rooster and sharing your brief comments. While I cannot respond specifically to your concerns with out more specific knowledge, I apologize that we failed to meet your expectations and that we didn’t have the opportunity to address any issues during your meal. I do hope you’ll consider anther visit in the future and am confident your experience will eb far more representative of what we are and what we offer! Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Service was excellent and food was delicious.
Thank you for dining with us on Wednesday and sharing your review. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the combination of delicious food and warm service from our team in The Red Rooster! As you know, our menus change with the season and prominently feature both our own fare from Kelly Way Gardens and other local producers. We hope you’ll return often to enjoy the best of Vermont! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
What a beautiful restaurant! The service was great, the food excellent and a perfect place for us to meet a friend and catch up.
Thank you for choosing The Red Rooster for your recent rendezvous and sharing such glowing reflections on your visit! I am happy we were able to accommodate you and that you enjoyed the winning combination of casual elegance with terrific local cuisine, seamless and flawless service, and genuinely warm Vermont hospitality! We hope to see you again soon to sample more of our always-changing seasonal menus! Yours truly Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The kitchen or waiter lost my order & I had to take my meal to go
Thank you for joining us on Tuesday and sharing your review. I am very sorry to learn of the miscommunication that resulted in your meal being unreasonable delayed and certainly understand how upsetting this must have been. Thank you for your patience with our team, and especially for pointing out this opportunity for us to improve. We will take advantage of the opportunity and look forward to regaining your trust soon! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
A must “Restarant” to visit and enjoy the food, ambiance, wonderful and attentive staff…..When you are there, take a walk around the Woodstock Inn…Stop into the gift shop…lovely items to take back home with you!
Book early….They book up “Very”fast!
Thank you for joining us recently and sharing such a nice recommendation of The Red Rooster and The Inn overall! As a reminder, these are very busy times for us in Woodstock and many local businesses are open on a limited basis, so it’s important to reserve ahead for lunch and dinner as we are usually fully committed and it would be a shame for you to miss out! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
This was our first time dining here. We could not get reservations at another restaurant and Red Rooster had an opening. We were celebrating an anniversary and were treated to a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Our lunch was excellent and our server pleasant. Would definitely eat here again.
Thank you for joining us and sharing the nice review. I am sorry to learn you didn’t consider our restaurant until after trying others, and glad you now know where to go In Woodstock! Just as a reminder, we are fully committed virtually every day so it is important to reserve your space well in advance via Open Table! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Stayed at the Inn for my wife’s 60th birthday and dined at the Red Rooster for dinner. Food was great as was the service. Provided a complementary dessert with candle and hotel sent a bottle of champagne. Great food & service made the birthday celebration even more memorable!
BEST grilled cheese and tomato/pumpkin soup ever!! Wonderful lunch on a gorgeous fall day in VT. Service was superb too! Will visit again!!!
Thank you for joining us at lunch last week and commenting on the BEST Grilled cheese local apple slices in the sandwich) and is a perennial favorite! Please plan to return often to enjoy more of our terrific local cuisine… and save room for a home-made dessert! Cheers, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Amazing experience here! A must stop place and highly recommend the clam chowder and mussels.
Thank you for dining with us and commenting on our amazing seafood, a strange anomaly in a land-locked state! When you visit again please consider out tribute to Oysters Rockefeller, always with an interesting seasonal variation! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The food was very good. I had the oysters rockefeller for my appetizer, braised short rib for entree and the hazelnut mousse for dessert. Also had a few glasses of cabernet. It was all very flavorful. The vegetables served with the short rib were served lukewarm/borderline cool which is the reason I gave it 4 stars. They don't serve bread or rolls at the table which would have been nice. All in all I would definitely come back here to eat!
We had a late lunch at Red Rooster. Food, service and ambience were all good. I believe dinner would earn higher scores across the board but were not able to score a reservation.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Monday afternoon and sharing your observations! I am sorry to learn we were unable to accommodate you for dinner, but delighted that you enjoyed the casually elegant atmosphere and our new fall menu featuring some terrific local, seasonal items and ingredients. We look forward to seeing you again soon, perhaps to enjoy a somewhat more refined fine-dining evening or a casual dinner in Richardson's Tavern! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Lunch on our way to a hiking trip.
Thank you for joining us Sunday afternoon en route to enjoying one of the area’s terrific hiking trails! We appreciate your choosing us and invite you to visit our Activity Center the next time you are in the area; in addition to fly fishing, falconry, cycling, and guided hiking trips we also offer a wealth of information about all sorts of great outdoor opportunities.. and maybe Spa reservations for after the adventure! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Limited lunch menu with the standards given a seasonal FALL twist introducing pumpkin, apple and other fall seasonings. Nice relaxes atmosphere.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Saturday and commenting on the casually elegant ambience and our delicious new fall menu! We are thrilled that you enjoyed it and look forward to sharing more seasonal items with you as we move deeper into fall and then our outstanding winter menus! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Great meal and service. Highly recommend for dinner
Thank you for dining with us and sharing the unequivocal recommendation! We are happy to offer our new autumn menus in all our restaurants and I am delighted you enjoyed it so! Please do consider returning for another dinner soon, whether to celebrate a special occasion or simply to pamper yourselves for an hour or so! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Everything was fine, pleasant dining.
Minimum 50 characters requirement is always annoying. Deduct 100 points!!!👎
Thank you so much for the very kind words about your recent dinner in The Red Rooster! I am sorry that there is nothing I can do about Open Table's 50-character minimum; I have shared with the powers that be, though, and I join you in hoping they’ll listen and respond! Yours truly Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We had the short ribs and the veal masala. Both were excellent. But my favorite was the Vermont maple cake. It was small but so very delicious!
Thank you for joining us for dinner on Wednesday. I am glad we were able to accommodate you and you enjoyed the casual elegance as well as the wonderful new items of our autumn menu! I was especially happy to see that you saved a little room for dessert and has the maple cake with house-made candied pecan ice cream… an item we added to the menu for the spring and will probably never take off! Cheers, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Beautiful restaurant with cozy atmosphere!
We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and we were treated to two glasses of Prosecco on the house, a very nice gesture.
Our reservation was for 7:15 however, our server said they were out of the special.
We ordered short rib which was rather tough which was disappointing; the wrong salad was served and our bottle of Chardonnay was warm.
The desserts consisted of strawberry ice cream or sorbet. For the price point, the dinner was unremarkable and the poor dessert selection was unfortunate.
Congratulations and thank you for celebrating your 50th anniversary with us. I am sorry to learn that it was not as rewarding as expected although I was happy to see our team provided you with a celebratory toast with our compliments. Thank you for sharing your specific concerns; we will discuss this afternoon as part of our effort at consistent improvement. With your help, we’ll get better and deliver memorable experiences more consistently! Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We had an excellent server and were not rushed. I ordered the salmon and it was extremely dry and overcooked with a $30 price tag. My husband’s pasta dish with rabbit was much tastier. Won’t return.
Thank you for sharing your comments about dinner on Tuesday. I enjoyed meeting you and discussing the experience, and apologize again that we were not able to correct the issue for you. As we discussed, we are using your concerns as a coaching opportunity about engagement and attention to detail with the team and will get better as a result! We look forward to seeing you again soon! With gratitude, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We enjoyed pleasant dining experience at lunch despite an unmotivated, disengaged server who had to be reminded who ordered what, and then we had to ask for a water refill, a dessert menu, etc.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Tuesday and sharing your impressions. I apologize that you server did not live up to expectations and thank you for pointing out this opportunity to get better. We’ll be sure to take advantage of this coaching opportunity to help us be more consistent moving forward! Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The food was delicious. But the service was not great. Or good. Very slow. And items asked for we never got. The auto gratuity was there because I’m sure you are aware service is not great right now.
Thank you for joining us on Saturday evening and commenting on both he food and service. I apologize that you found the pace uncomfortable slow and thank you for pointing out the opportunity for us to improve. These are challenging times and our employees work exceptionally hard under difficult circumstances; we appreciate your patience and look forward to regaining your trust when you visit again soon. Cordially yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Sorry to have to give such a low score to one of my favorite Inns but 45 minutes to wait for a cup of soup and a pretzel plate is way too long. At the very least someone should come by after 20 minutes and offer bread and butter or another light snack if servers can't bring out food in a timely manner.
Time for management to come together and solve the problem of having hungry patrons who have reservations wait an overextended time to receive their meals.
I know you can do better Woodstock Inn.
Thank you for joining us on a very busy Saturday night and sharing your observations. I apologize that you felt the service was lacking and am sure you understand this was an exception rather than the rule. I realize this will not alter your experience, but please know that we do appreciate your sharing and will, as you say, “do better.” Thank you for your loyalty and understanding. Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Great service, ambience and food- would definitely return and recommend to others.
Thank you for joining us in The Red Rooster and sharing the nice review! We talk with our team often about the differences between service and hospitality, and the importance of each. Great service, ambience, and food combine to make our guests feel welcome and appreciated, and that is the essence of hospitality. People may not remember what we say or what we do, but they never forget how we make them feel! Thank you, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
They added an automatic 20 percent gratuity to our bill for a party of 2. Why? Then the server forgot to run our card. Hostess tracked us down via open table.
Thank you for dining with us last week and sharing your review. I apologize that our service staff was not more clear in explaining the service charge as well as the fact that we can happily adjust it either up or down at your request. We look forward to seeing you again, perhaps to enjoy the Fall offerings from our certified-organic Kelly Way Gardens, and I encourage you to let us know if you would like us to remove or adjust the charge. Respectfully Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
As always, really great food. Lunch standouts were corn chowder to start, blueberry/baby spinach salad w/ feta and red onion...and the maple cake. OMG the maple cake. Service was excellent and fast.
Thank you for commenting so favorably on your luncheon last week! You certainly ordered well, enjoying several local ingredients including the incredible fresh-picked organic greens from our Kelly Way Gardens… and as you say, “OMG the maple cake!” Cheers, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Wine selection is very good. Service, personable and attentive. Appetizers and Entrees are good. Desserts are unbelievably small.
Thank you for joining us at dinner and sharing the very complimentary words about our seasonal cuisine, wine list, and service. We are also proud of our house-made desserts, though, and I am distraught to learn you felt the size was meager. We aim to please and I have shared your feedback with our executive pastry chef and his team for their consideration! Thank you again for the valuable feedback. Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Fantastic fish stew
Thank you for joining us for lunch on Wednesday and commenting on the experience; especially our seafood stew! The combination of seafood flavors with a hearty tomato-fennel broth and saffron aioli has made this a perennial favorite and one of the very few dishes that stays on our menu al year, year-after-year! We hope to see you again soon! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
This was a birthday dinner. Waiter started off with low energy. We ordered cocktails and a bottle of champagne. Appetizers arrived. Oysters Rockefeller a delicious romaine salad and onion soup which was bland and disappointing. We ordered entrees 2 veal Marsala and a salmon. My son ans I took one bite and new the veal was bad. We waited ten minutes for our waiter to check on us and gave up and flagged another waiter down. We asked for our waiter. He returned, we explained the situation. He said Really. I doubt it’s bad but I’ll get the manager. The manager appeared and apologized offering new entrees. I declined my son had the salmon which my husband had just eaten. They brought a dessert compliments of the house. The waiter dropped the bill stating “20% gratuity has already been added. They removed the veal dinners. Sorry”. 2 rancid veal dinners at$45 each. And then they charged us for the salmon. I was sick the entire night and next day as was my son. Never step foot in here!!!
Thank you for visiting on Friday and sharing your woeful experience. I apologize that your celebration was not more celebratory and especially that our team did not step up and respond more effectively to salvage the evening. I want to be sure you know we’re listening; appreciate the candid feedback; and are investigating and following up thoroughly with our entire team. we hope to see you again and regain your lost trust. Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Quiet and elegant, modern yet traditional dining room, perfect size menu with something for everyone. Waiters were all excellent. Food was delicious, well presented and very satisfying. I did not sit outside but there was a nice covered porch area with several tables. I would definitely go back for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Thank you for the very kind words about your experiences in The Red Rooster last week! Each meal period is a unique experience and we are happy to welcome our resort guests, loyal local clientele, and others visiting or passing through Woodstock. For over 200 years we have offered both efficient service and warm hospitality freely, and we are gratified to see that tradition is going strong. We look forward to hosting you again soon! Yours truly Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We were somewhat disappointed, given the overall very positive reviews we had seen. The food was good, but somewhat "tired" in terms of creativity. It felt like the restaurant could profit from some new energy. We ate at the "Prince and Pauper" down the street, for example, and had a much better meal in a more enjoyable setting.
Thank you for dining with us last week and sharing your impressions. I apologize that you felt the menu lacked imagination; we try to make the best possible use of local, seasonal ingredients wherever we can and I wish I could comment more specifically on your choices. I have also shared you comment on “new energy” with the team and thank you for the timely reminder! We hope to see you again soon. Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Drinks and food took forever to arrive! Wine was not chilled
Thank you for joining us on Sunday and commenting on the experience. I am delighted you enjoyed our cuisine but sorry that the pace of the meal was not as quick as you would have liked and especially that your wine selection was not more enjoyable. I have shared your feedback with our Restaurants Director and we will certainly address each issue and get better as a result. We hope to see you again and look forward to regaining your trust. Sincerely, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Food and service was mediocre, perhaps they are experiencing staffing issues like many restaurants are.
Thank you for joining us last night. I apologize that you were disappointed by the overall experience and assure you this is not at all the standard we aspire to. Yes, these are challenging times for everyone, and we want to be very careful not to hide behind any challenges to excuse loosening our standards. I hope we’ll see you again soon and am confident we’ll earn your trust with a far more memorable evening. Yours truly, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Felt the food was very overpriced for the quality that was served. Our waiter was great but our food reminded me of leftovers that were reheated from a wedding .
Thank you for dining with us and sharing your impressions. I am sorry that you found the food neither inspiring nor a reasonable value. I apologize in particular that we did not recognize and rectify the situation in order to salvage a more pleasant evening. I realize this will not alter your experience, but please know that we do appreciate your generosity and specific comments, and will get better as a result. Gratefully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Mediocre and poor food selection for lunch at a high price. We just had some cocktails, hamburgers, beer and salad. The hamburger was not bad but could have been much better considering the reputation and the high prices of this establishment. Although we have made a reservation way in advance, when we requested a table outside, we were told nothing was available.
Thank you for joining us for lunch last week and sharing your impressions. I am sorry to hear you weren’t more impressed with our cuisine and encourage you to try something a little more adventurous when you visit again. Many of our seasonal dishes and daily specials feature local farms and a more classically Vermont twist! Please consider another visit soon, as we transition to our autumn menus! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
I met a friend for lunch and we both ordered 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of soup. I had tomato basil and she had the fish chowder of the day. The sandwich was crunchy and tasty, with a bit of apple added for a nice surprise. The soups were both delicious. Our server took good care of us but didn't "hover" and make us feel like we needed to hurry. It was a mid-week afternoon so not crowded, which it can be during high season with tourists. We sat by the window, it was a splendid day. I always love coming to this neighborhood gem when I want to have a really nice, civilized and delicious lunch (or dinner).
Thank you for joining us at lunch again on Wednesday and sharing the terrific review. You chose very wisely: our version of grilled cheese and tomato soup has been on the meu since day one, with seasonal changes, and is not at all like Mom used to make! Thanks also for the nice words about the casually elegant ambience and your server. We look forward to seeing you again soon to enjoy our autumn menu! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
So happy to see Anton again!
Thank you for joining us in The Red Rooster last weekend and commenting so favorably on your evening! Anton and his team certainly do a terrific job combining efficient service with authentic hospitality, which adds up to memorable experiences for all our guests. We’ll be sure to share your comments widely and celebrate our success! We look forward to seeing you again soon. All the best, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
