We didn't plan on coming here, this was our first time. The place was newly remodeled, the bar area was very nice and well done. The staff was attentive, but not annoying. our waitress was very familiar with the menu and did give great detail about each item and was very helpful. I ordered the Filet, it was cooked exactly to a medium rare. The sides were great. You can see by my other reviews, that we dine in the finest restaurants across the country. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beef here. It was as good as you can get. Everything was spot on. The owner was very cordial and we enjoyed meeting him. I would highly recommend this place.
Love this restaurant’s vibe, food and cocktail menu. The service was amazing and the food was really Delicious. Loved the hot’n’crunchy avocado as an appetizer and the expresso rubbed tenderloin was actually yummy and the hot’n’crunchy trout was the best. If you have not been you will not be disappointed. Would love to go back when it’s cooler to take advantage of the outdoor patio.
Another terrific experience. Wonderful food, knowledgable waitstaff, no rush felt to order. Enjoyable, relaxing evening
All around amazing meal! Great for a special occasion or if you want so true hill country cuisine! Food was unique and delicious, beautiful decorations and ambiance, and the staff were knowledgeable and attentive.
After 3 owners in the last 5 years with no improvement
It’s time to hang’em up. We had heard that management
Hired a true professional to run this establishment and had made the necessary changes to aid him. We gave it 6 weeks until we would try it out. What a surprise when we went Saturday eve for dinner to find out he resigned.
We sat down and ordered our dinner which took almost and hour to arrive. I returned my selection as it was under cooked and we discovered at the end of dinner they had only 1 person in the kitchen working ....the chef.
There were 2 waiters and 1 barkeep in the entire place.
It was sad to see an establishment that had been so alive and vibrant come to this. Better for ownership to sell the place if possible and some person start a new business.
Retire the name for the sake of nostalgia alone.
The food and service were excellent, and the music was absolutely perfect. Could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.
I loved the atmosphere at Hudson’s, it was very unique. The food was delicious as well as beautiful and the service was very professional.
Everything was great except for the entrees. We had the grill special of Ribeye, Chicken, and shrimp with sides. It was all very bland and the steak was a cheap cut and over cooked. Had a much better experience a few months ago🤷🏻♀️
This is a fantastic restaurant. Although it’s on the higher end for cost, the foos and service are excellent.
Have been coming here since the original location opened in the '80s. Celebrated my 50th birthday with a party of 10. Restaurant was empty except for the private room - possibly being used by friends of owners. We had to wait to be seated. It was a Tuesday and several items were sold out "from the weekend". Prices are very expensive. Food took at least 45 minutes to arrive or longer. They forgot a soup and said they were sold out but then one miraculously arrived. ?? Most of the food tasted very good. Very small portions. Wild Boar Lollipops were recommended but very tough not tender. Bill was $800 and half the table was under 21.... I hope the new owners bring in some better experienced staff - it won't make it with this service level.
Fantastic food and service. I would highly recommend trying this place out. I will definitely be back soon.
We were hoping to enjoy the wild game, but three meat selections on the menu were not offered the night we went, it took about 45 minutes to receive our food, and the quality and taste of our entrees was disappointing.
We started with the Bonfire Buffalo Quail and the Crunch Fried Avocado which were both delicious and unique. Main courses included the Grilled Salmon which was delicious and perfectly prepared, the tenderloin was so tender it barely needed a knife, the Hot and Crunchy Eggplant was an interesting blend of crunchiness combined with an asian inspired sweet sauce - delicious. An acoustic guitarist provided lovely background music, the setting is contemporary hill country style, service was excellent. The bar area looked like a fun place to hang out - very warm and inviting. We sat inside but the patio area is covered with trees and is beautifully landscaped. A hidden gem!
Service was TERRIBLE! 35 minute wait at table before a drink order. And only then after complaining. If you want to try Hudson’s go now because they will not be around much longer.
Graduation dinner and it was absolutely horrible.- waited two hours to be served. Cold meals, rushed drinks, understaffed, and honestly just an awful experience.
Beautiful restaurant with a great menu! All of our food was fantastic! The only downside was that our waiter was rather uninterested in our table and on more than one occasion we found him hanging out at the bar. Our dinner of 4 took 3 hours. I would certainly go back but just hopefully get a different waiter.
Great Mothers Day brunch location! Great service and great food.
I reserved it for a special event. The staff treated us like royalty. I would highly recommend this place. Beautiful location, delicious food, and very courteous staff! They even kept the place open 2 hours past the closing time for our event. Thank you very much!
Our experience was disappointing. The menu was limited. Although the quality of the food was acceptable, it was hardly outstanding or consistent with the relatively high prices. As an example, there were only two choices for dessert, key-lime pie or a kind of ice cream sundae.
The service was poor. Our order for two glasses of wine took well over 10 minutes to arrive although the restaurant was fairly empty. The check arrived after dessert but before we were given the opportunity to order coffee. I asked to order coffee for myself and expresso for my wife. The waitress returned and said that they did not have expresso and we asked for two coffees. She returned with two cups and a cafe filtre serving for one. She and the manager were unable to work the cafe filtre container, I suspect because that added coffee for two in a container meant for one. It is disappointing that a restaurant cannot serve a cup of coffee to complete a meal.
Our waitress was pleasant but needed to be trained on how to provide service.
Great service. Very friendly , and excellent decor.
What a lovely evening we had relaxing and enjoying a wonderful dinner with friends. Our Server Lisa was congenial, knowledgeable and efficient. She was an excellent server and took wonderful care of us. Everyone was pleased with their meal, (Venison, hot & Crispy Fish, steak and chicken) and would recommend having it the next time. We topped the night off with drinks and music on the patio. What a delightful way to relax and enjoy an evening!
It’s not the Hudson’s we used to know but the food is still outstanding and unique. We had excellent service the night we were there, our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The restaurant itself has had a little facelift and looks very nice. The prices are most definitely higher, some a little more than they should be but overall we had an enjoyable dining experience.
Still working out the kinks on their brunch, but really enjoyed it overall. Didn’t always have food out, a couple of items needed a refresh. Service was excellent. Given time I think things will only improve. We’ll go back!
I used to visit Hudson's OFTEN, when it was Hudson's on the Bend. Since the new "hill country" opened, I've been twice. The first time I visited, the food was outstanding but the service was a little slow. This last time I visited, the service was great but ALL of the items: bread, appetizers, food -- TOOK FOREVER to come out. When the bread finally made it to the table, it was dry and seemed old (definitely NOT fresh). When the appetizer arrived - the 'dumplings' were hard/crisp (unlike the last time where they were soft/plump). When my venison finally came out, it was WAY over-cooked. Almost inedible but because we had been there SO long and had somewhere to be - I just ate my sides and picked at my daughters dish. We were there celebrating her birthday but had to leave before dessert because everything took so long. Sadly - I was not impressed and hate that I'm leaving this less than stellar review for one of my old faves. However, the price you pay for the food should be reflected in each dish and that was NOT the case here. Not this time. Also - the place was practically empty, so why everything was taking forever, truly remained a mystery to my daughter and myself. It was quite frustrating honestly.
Sadly, this Hill Country gem is near death. We used to dream about returning to Hudson's with each trip into Austin. This always included businesss associates and customers. Not any more. The food served was offensive at best. From the cheap bigbox roles to the bait and switch shoe-leather duck. Three seperate dishes had the same, exact store bought bottled sauce. The bok choy tasted like a smoldering campfire. Take it from professional middle aged foodies...simply run as fast as you can.
We have been patrons to Hudson's over the years, but it seems like they are still getting their feet under them after reopening under new management. For the price of the food, I had come to expect a bit higher level of service. The menu is limited, albeit with a variety of interesting options. The food was perfectly prepared and flavorful.
We had a great meal and Lisa our server was AMAZING! She brought out snacks and little things for my toddler to play with and be distracted while we enjoyed the delicious food. She made our experience great and we will ask for her next time we visit.
Horrible horrible service. Wine list was awful. Food was served cold. Poor value for the money. I will not return.
warm atmosphere, xlnt service, friendly staff, and good food. for an austin restaraunt it stands out in ambiance, service and food. hudson's falls short on limited menu choices and a small selection of wines by the glass. the overall meal rating is somewhat mixed. i should have sent the mushroom dumplings back as they were overcooked and cold, and almost inedible. alternately, the steak was as close to perfection as any hunk of meat i've ever eaten. cooked to perfection, nice flavor and sooo tender. we'll be back.
The group really enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the food, and the service.
What a pity. We went there on a Sunday night. The service was completely inexperienced and very slow (not the fault of the server - the fault of the management). Apparently the only competent person in the kitchen that night was a 19 year old trainee chef. The food was pretty good, when it came out, but the whole magic of Hudson's on the Bend has gone - it was lifeless and quite frankly not worth the money. We would have done better at, say, Jack Allen's Kitchen for a lot less money. The management is at fault - if you bother to read this - get someone who knows how to open a bottle of wine, and to pour a little out for someone to test - don't just have them get the bottle open and go right ahead and slosh it into everyone's wine glasses. Speed up the dining process a little - get some more experienced help in the kitchen. There were literally only two other tables with a few folks at each that night yet it took about 2.5 hours from start to finish. The people working there wore miserable expressions.....need I say more?
Wonderful place recommended by our host at Casa del Sol B and B. Great food and service and wonderful live music spilling over from the bar area. A little pricey but worth it.
Food was simply terrible, especially given the price of apps and entree. Food quality was the biggest issue...Service was ok but overall experience was negative and will not be back. This restaurant used to be great in years past.. not sure what happened.
Food and wine were excellent but they were sold out of several appetizers, entree and dessert items. The menu is limited so the lack of regular items was a disappointment
Food was great! We all had different things. Drinks were great as well. We were outside and it was very slow but with such a gorgeous setting, I didn’t mind. I hope people give them a try.
The worse experience ever. We had a dishwasher coming out helping us with the service because they were under staffed. There’s not enough words to describe how bad our experience dinning at the restaurant on my 45 th birthday celebration was. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone the food was over cooked, served cold when we finally got our food after waiting for 2 hours.
Wonderful food! Great service! My husband and I joined two co-workers for dinner at this beautiful restaurant and were delighted with both food and service. Everything was prepared to perfection and such a super evening for us to remember.
We've been to Hudson's three times since it was sold by Chef Blank. Each time it has deteriorated. On Saturday at prime time the room was almost empty. We sat at the bar and the bartender was generally friendly, but simply untrained, uneducated in service, and inattentive. Example: we sat for 20 min with our card out to pay before she came back at the end of the meal to tab us out.
The food was OK. Hudson's has always been a bit pricey, but previously it was worth it. The value is no longer there. My duck was overcooked. The trout was fishy. And all was oversauced so you couldn't taste the meat.
The wine list has also always been on the high side, but again we used to be able to find some good options and there were plenty of choices. We aren't afraid to spend money on good wine. But the list is now trimmed down and poorly chosen, yet remains overpriced. There were only 4 wines by the bottle under $100, and most were $160 plus, for not great options. Wine related service example: we ordered a bottle of Veuve Rose, and she opened our bottle on the other side of the bar, without presenting it, and opened the wrong bottle. Once corrected, she poured a full glass that was warm.
It's unfortunate that a historic institution has fallen apart so badly.
Ambiance very nice . Service was slow. Waited almost 15 minutes for a cocktail. Food good okay. Lots of fried food on menu. Expensive for what we ordered. Hesitant to recommend, but would after acknowledging my first 6 comments.
