Our party of 3 enjoyed the Pre Fixe menu, which offered delightful choices of appetizers, main course dishes and deserts to our different tastes and dietary requirements. The pace of the service perfect. The knowledge and communication skills of our server, Aja, was superb. She addressed if anyone in our party had any food related concerns soon after we were seated, and made appropriate suggestions. Every dish was prepared and presented expertly with unique flavor combinations. The music softly playing in the background added to the delightful ambiance. At the end of our meal, chef/owner Taylor Hall graciously came to our table when we inquired about his interest in honeybees, to talk bees and beekeeping with a fellow beekeeper in our party. Chef Taylor has a genuine passion for promoting honeybee health and awareness in the community. He deliciously incorporates honey from his hives and other honeybee products in the dishes he creates. We will happily be back to enjoy more of Apis' offerings!
We loved this restaurant. The ambiance was wonderful for dinner conversation. Our server was knowledgeable. The food, both presentation and taste, was outstanding. We will go back for another special occasion.
Everything was amazing! This was our second visit to Apis. We love the ambiance of this gem of a restaurant. The meal started with a tiny cup of cucumber soup and a delicious roll complements of the chef. Next I had the egg toast as my “snack” which was SO good! For my appetizer I had the 44 farms carpaccio, then I chose the duck breast as my entree both were very flavorful. The Charleston gold rice and all the other ingredients were such a nice complement to the duck breast. My palate was so happy. The peanut and dark chocolate Napoleon and a cup of French press was the perfect ending to an amazing feast. The service is consistently outstanding! We will definitely be back!
I love the aesthetic of this restaurant. Everything about is is well considered, curated and delivered in an aesthetic fashion. The environment is lovely with the apiary theme carried out with understated consistency throughout the bar and dining area; inlays in the table tops and bar, art on the walls, even the light fixtures repeat the them of small clusters of cells in a beehive. Every part of the meal is beautiful. Our server, Asia, knew the food well and described it with the panache of a performer. The little "gifts" from the chef - cucumber dill soup at the beginning and an amazing raspberry bit at the end - were great surprises and a lovely counterpoint to our meals. A really interesting pecan miso sauce came with the steaks others at the table had. Our appetizers were, well, appetizing, clever teases that got our mouths watering for the main courses which were all we had hoped for and more. Then, the desserts ranged from a chocolate peanut butter decadence served with a bit of nasturtium (for real) sherbet. My melon based dessert was just what I wanted - light and out of this world. Really, everything was perfect.
All around a great place and we enjoyed and will be back again.
This was a true dining experience. We enjoyed the ambience, the music, the waitstaff and the food. It was worth the drive from New Braunfels and we will definitely do it again!!
Fabulous, special restaurant. The food was great. The service was as great as the food. We spent a wonderful evening.
Fantastic service, ambiance and every bite of food an adventure! My husband and I decided to go to Apis for our anniversary and it was spectacular. A special shout out to Aja who made the evening even more enjoyable with her impeccable timing, great suggestions, ideas and entertaining conversation. This is destination dining at it's best!
Great food well prepared and presented. Courses were perfectly timed with a good amount of time allowed between courses. Service was impecible with staff knowlegable about ingredients and flavors.
Only drawbacks were the seemingly confused allocation of our table presumably because we had arrived 20 minutes early. There were a few tables empty so not sure why we had to wait. Also, we found the surrounding buildings and areas messy which detracts from the overall experience. You have to walk past the garbage area from the car park and it did not smell good and was overall unsightly. There was also a lot of stuff lying around e.g. old gas cylinders, wooden crates, etc. A bit of landscaping would not go amiss. Other than these observations one cannot fault the food and the wine list is fantastic.
Great food great service. Catered to my wife’s food sensitivities. Patient with the whole exercise. Best stop in Texas.
What a surprise!! I had read about this restaurant somewhere...and we were out and about and saw this as an option on Open Table...
From the first moment we walked in to the last bite -AMAZING!!!!
The food- YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!! I mean egg toast? That you talk about for 3 days?? Cocktails & Wine-Lovely choices available. Food-Well thought out and perfectly executed!
The ambiance-the only downside was it didn't feel like you were in a place that would serve this kind of food. The bar looked cool, bathrooms were great but, the rest almost seemed forgotten about.
The STANDOUT-the SERVICE!!!! Impeccable!!! ASIA was our server and now our new best friend!! Seriously though, you can tell she loves what she does and where she works. Amazing!!!! We mentioned that it was probably going to be a nice sunset so they arranged for us to have our dessert/coffee outside (after eating inside) We did not feel sad leaving because we KNOW we are coming back!
We have been to Apis at least 5 times. On the reservation I put that we were celebrating Mother’s Day late. The day before our reservation I was asked if we had ever been to APIs, I replied yes. Then asked if I was familiar with their Prix Fixe menu offering, again I replied yes. I was asked if we were celebrating anything special, I replied yes a late mother’s day. Upon being seated at our table I was asked again if we had ever been to Apis and then if we were familiar with their Prix Fixe menu. There was no mention of us celebrating a special occasion. I was surprised that the two questions were being asked again since on all of our previous visits with the exception of the first visit we were always greeted with thank you for dining with us again and acknowledged a special occasion if we had put that in our reservation. The rest of the service was outstanding as well as the food. I guess my expectation is higher for such a highly rated restaurant. Thank you for listening.
Exceptional gourmet option hidden in Spicewood. The menu varies daily so allow Chef Michael to guide your culinary journey. The bar includes many good spirits and wine options and the mixologist created excellent unique cocktails
I had the prix frixe and ordered the Steak. It was tasty but not very tender thus the reason for the four instead of five star rating.
Thoughtfully crafted dishes and friendly, attentive service. We loved the seafood dishes, especially the scallop appetizer and flounder entree. A wonderful spot for a special occasion meal.
This is one of the best culinary experiences you can have in Austin. It’s off the beaten path and worth a visit for foodies.
The set menu is a little misleading. You go in the door knowing you have to pay a minimum of $65 a person but the upcharge for the entrees and so you end up spending a lot more for food that is good, but not extraordinary. I guess since we are from Houston (we were just in town for the weekend) we are used to spectacular for that amount of money. Glad we tried it.
Fantastic Service, Excellent Halibut, Creative Dessert -- Perfect as Always
Outstanding food, service and setting. One of our favorite spots!
Eating here is such a treat. Without a doubt, it's my favorite place to eat in Texas. Everything here is so unique and flavorful, and the service is top-notch.
Service was impeccable, attentive and yet not intrusive. The menu was creative and every dish was perfectly executed. Portions were generous. Cocktails were delicious and the wine list is guaranteed to have something for everyone. Overall we enjoyed a wonderful dining experience and the drive from Austin made it even more special and relaxing.
This was our first visit to Apis and I would HIGHLY recommend this gem of a restaurant! The food was amazing and the service provided by Asia was over and above outstanding!! We will definitely be back!
1st time, last time.
Very awkward entrance as no fewer than 5 staff were by the door when we walked in including the hostess as she was on the phone. None of them said hello, welcome, or any type of acknowledgement when we walked in the door. Food, of which I had heard was fantastic was nothing but covered in salt. Both myself and date finished maybe half of each plate per course. Our waiter called my date “darling”, which was off putting as he was younger than us, and it just didn’t fit (some people can pull it off appropriately...this was not the case). We provided feedback on the food at the end of the night. Will not return and not recommended to others
Absolutely an amazing experience and the food was superb!!!
The food was excellent and farm to table fresh. The service and ambiance is top notch! Will definitely have date night there again!
Would suggest from quality of service to outstanding food...would be a tough place to have a better dining experience
Great cocktails. Delicious food and the service was phenomenal!! Asia our hostess was so knowledgeable, engaging and will suggest the right pairings. Will definitely come back again!
Wow, what a find just 15 minutes from the center of Lakeway. The food was superb with a splendid and subtle mix of ingredients. Service was attentive, not rushed, and well-informed about the food. We will be back!
We enjoyed our visit to Apis for our 50th wedding anniversary. The menu selections for the pris fixe dinner were excellent as my spouse had the flounder and I had the steak selection. Presentation was beautifully done and the food was perfectly prepared. Staff was friendly and prompt with service, and surprised us with a small glass of champagne and an appetizer bite at the end of the dinner. The room was relatively quiet and relaxing with some soft jazz that we did appreciate. We will try to make future anniversary dinners exclusively at Apis, and for the occasional splurge.
Apis is phenomenal! Did the price fixe menu and it was totally worth it.
Amazing dining experience! We have been there several times, and are always blown away by the quality of the food, cocktails, wine and personal service..
An absolute jewel of a restaurant - one of our all-time favorites. Do yourself a favor and try Apis out. You will be treated to an unbelievable dinner experience, and one you will not soon forget!
Easily one of the best dining experiences I've had in Austin, start and end your meal with egg toast and its just right
Food was very good - well intended. Only comment is that appetizer may be a tad overwhelming - almost entree-size.
The ambiance is a little difficult; we went early in the evening so not many guests. I get why everything seems to have a yellow-ish tone to it, but still ...
Would definitely return for another try.
We’ve been several times and each time the food and service has been outstanding! Asia was our waitress this last time and made us feel very comfortable and was very knowledgeable about the different types of courses that were served. We’ll definitely be back!
Love this hill country gem! Thanks for bringing fine dining to Spicewood!
Tables very close together
Nice restaurant, the tables were a little close so it’s difficult to hold a conversation without over hearing everyone around.
Fantastic service; fantastic food; good music and atmosphere while still quiet enough to have a conversation; more than worth the drive from Austin to get there.
Setting was very nice. The quality of the steak was less that perfect. I almost thought they got it from the PFG accross the stree. The rest of the meal was good and the staff awsome. If they improved the quality of their main course then it would be worth it. But as it is, will never go again.
Steaks were dry and flavorless, potatoes were extremely salty, not a good meal for any price.
