Lunch at Sage was delicious with good vegetarian selections. The warm roasted vegetable salad was a standout. Note: Sage is only open for lunch and for special events.
Lovely Valentine’s Day lunch. Beautiful sunny day so we could enjoy the view. Outstanding dishes - something for everyone. Food was a little slow coming, but waiter apologised and we didn’t mind at all. Wish they were open in the evenings, but a great, fun mini-break to UBC and enjoying the campus for a walk afterwards.
Restaurant definitely has a University feel to it, not intimate, but that is part of the charm.
Food was good but my entree had the same side as what we had ordered for an appetizer (cauliflower salad).
Also the dishes, glass and cutlery were not particularly clean.
Kitchen closes at 2pm. So plan for a lunch no later than 1pm.
I highly recommend Sage for a fancier-fare lunch that will still have something on the menu that my smaller-city parents from out of town can find something familiar-sounding from. I am GF and dairy free and I can always find something suitable and delicious. The service is always exceptional (special shout out to Patrick!).
After having worked on campus for almost 5 years this was my first time going to Sage bistro; I wish I'd gone sooner! The quality of the food is outstanding, of good value and the service is excellent. I will definitely go back.
Food is great.
Service less so.
I am a frequent client, and I must say that everytime I go, I feel I am being reprimanded for something. Could it really be that hard to be "nice" at what is supposed to be the best (at least the most expensive) restaurant on campus? Thank you!
Consistently the best food on UBC campus. Lovely location with a peek a boo view of the mountains to the North. Outstanding food; creatively brought together. Not an extensive menu its just right for its sweet spot of a higher end, healthier, and creatively crafted meal.
One of our favourite places for a "special" occasion. Doesn't disappoint.
Ocean view that was promised in the Yelp ad wasn't realistic. Many tall trees blocked the view. The interior is very esoteric/bland. They were short-staffed. It took us 5 min to get seated and 5 min for a food server to see us and 5 min to get our drinks. Gnocchi sounded great, but both dishes for my mother and son, were soggy/bland. This restaurant may be one of the better ones on campus (supposedly - and perhaps for dinner, instead of lunch), but we left unsatisfied.
This is an elegant place for lunch hidden at UBC. The food are cooked professionally but the portion is a bit small for the price. The server was attentive and considerate and the decor and view out of the window was spectacular. Overall would recommend if you don't mind the price.
The food was excellent, and a marked improvement over recent visits. Service was very slow, though.
A great experience. Patrick delivers amazing service and the staff are friendly.
Food was very tasty, somewhat pricey. We each had the onion soup and the halibut as an entree. The food was somewhat salty although delicious. Presentation beautiful.
I always enjoy coming to Sage.
The halibut was excellent: a large, fresh fillet pan-seared and accompanied by healthy portions of vegetables and rice. It couldn't be better.
We were going to Sage for a 60th birthday celebration which the restaurant was aware of. Our server rushed us from the minute we arrived, we all ordered a soup followed by a salad and were amazed when the soup arrived within minutes of the order. Two salads arrived immediately the soup spoons were put down and the other two salads arrived whilst my friends were still eating their soup and so the plates were promptly pushed aside for the salad to fit on the table. Finally my friends salad plate was removed while she still had some bread in her hand. What was supposed to be a leisurely, enjoyable celebration was a very rushed affair with us out of the restaurant in an hour!
It is always a pleasure to dine at Sage. I only wish it were open for dinner and on weekends.
Our lunch was superb. The clams were cooked to perfection. The halibut was moist and tender. The chocolate cheesecake was mouth watering. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I’m sorry I didn’t get her name. She has worked at the restaurant for 13 years. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. A repeat is in the works.
I booked through OpenTable and didn’t get my 100 points. This is my only complaint.
Excellent food, service wonderful
Overall a very enjoyable experience
Beautiful setting, attentive service, very interesting menu, delicious food, no pressure!
Small but diverse menu with great food items. And all our group agreed. Quality and presentation beautiful. Love the stark open spacious room.
Very dated decor. No outdoor seating on a lovely summer day. Service and food were good. Needs an upgrade.
It was a shame to have a beautiful Niçoise Salad with an excess of salt.
I hadn't been to Sage for many years but again found it highly commendable. Being in July is was quieter than I remembered, having previously visited during term time. The server and service was quick and efficient. Both main dishes - the Wild Mushroom Risotto and the Grilled Heart of Romaine were very tasty and plentiful for a luncheon meal. I liked that the tables were well spaced giving a good sense of privacy. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
The food and atmosphere were excellent. This is the best place on campus to bring visitors.
This is the former faculty club at the university— steps away from the Museum of Anthropology. The room is very spare, with nice views of the mountains and gardens. Service was very friendly. We had the sable and it was fantastic.
Beautiful view and simple light airy decor.
Menu is healthy and innovative, presented and served elegantly. Very easy to cater for allergies. Server pointed out what foods were in season.
Unfortunately only open for lunch.
A delightful experience
Highly recommended this amazing restaurant with great service
Noisy room in a gorgeous setting, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountain range. Service and food are typical of a high-end downtown eatery in Vancouver.
Excellent service - thoughtful, knowledgeable, pleasant. Delicious meal - my guest from Toronto was impressed with the food, device and venue.
A great lunch spot on UBC campus close to the Chan Centre.
This is the one truly nice place to eat on the UBC campus and the food and view are excellent. Service is friendly and well informed.
Truest interesting and healthy menu with a lovely garden view. Service food.
We expected an excellent lunch and that is what we enjoyed!
The experience was pleasant as were the staff. The staff were informative, courteous but not pushy1
We found the noise level increase as more patrons arrived. Possibly there is no need for background music once guests arrive??
Excellent experience. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a window table. Good menu. Perfect place for lunch. Will be back.
The salmon with RICH sauce is worthy the people who enjoy seasonal seafood. The RICH creamy dessert is so special and insightful. The environment is RICH in connotation that you can't wait to feel more about it.
Was pleasantly surprised . Will definitely book further meetings here.
There is a new menu that caters to both vegetarians and fish lovers. My wife had a deconstructed caramelized onion and mushroom tart with collard greens and carrot shavings as well as a side of scallops in smoked eggplant puree, with crispy pancetta sprinkles, parsnip chips, and micro radish greens. I had grilled octopus with parsnip veloute, toasted lentils they were tasty, and substantial. The fish is Ocean Wise. It was a very good meal and we enjoyed being there.
The salmon was very good and the sauce was excellent. This restaurant has very pleasant views on a clear day. The seating is good on the raised balcony near the bar. Otherwise the chairs look a bit utilitarian. There is plenty of space between the tables. The service was professional, but slightly slow. The menu is suitable for adults and lists a fairly limited range of dishes. The background music was classical on the day of our visit.
We had excellent service. The food was healthy and tasty. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options.
I have never been disappointed with my dining experience at Sage. Sometimes the menu is better than other times, but it is always good. I bring people from industry to speak to my engineering students, and invariably, they are impressed. Some of them who live in Vancouver have said they would like to bring their wives for dinner, or dine here on weekends, but unfortunately, only lunch is available.
