Ship Inn Seafood and Steak
Historic and quiet atmosphere with great food and service!
Always good here. The best mushroom bisque around. Always my favorite. We had the filet & strip steak. Would’ve liked the special sea bass.
Had dinner with our son in honor of our 44th. Wedding anniversary. Had a very nice meal, as usual. No complaints.
Crab cakes were delicious!”Waitress was attentive. My son and I enjoyed a lovely dining experience.
Our special occasion, our 40th anniversary was not even acknowledged.
My food was fantastic. I had a Shrimp and crabmeat that was fantastic. The atmosphere was romantic. This was a special occasion for us. We waited 35 minutes for the server to come back after our main course was finished, and take our dessert order. We tried to flag her down numerous times. We got up to go ask the host for the check. Then she gave us the check. We could no longer stay. Our sitter had to leave. I guess she figured we'd spent enough for a good tip. Too bad cause we tip well. We might try it again but probably won't.
The service was great, the noise level low and the food great!
Always one of our favorites, with or without the kids!
Last minute decision to dine out. Have gone to Ship Inn on and off for over 30 years. Outstanding mushroom bisque. Wife had special Veiner Schnitzel and was excellent. I had the Vienna Pork and it was good. Service very attentive but not over bearing. A bit noisy as evidently a group or busy lounge area. Overall very enjoyable and will be back.
Our server was fabulous. He gave me a great recommendation that was delicious.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful meal and excellent service in a very lovely atmosphere.
They have a very quaint setting, and the ambiance is very nice (especially for a romantic evening). The menu has a decent balance of choices and the prices are very reasonable, but the wine selection leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, a very good place to eat.
I drive by the Ship Inn regularly and finally tried them for dinner and I’m glad I did. It’s a hidden gem.
I was at a prime steakhouse in West Chester a couple weeks ago and spent over $200 and the steak was tough, bristly and a horribly expensive meal. The steak at the Ship was so tender, it cut with a butter knife with ease. An appetizer, 6 drinks, two dinners and one dessert for $130 AND all delicious. Can't ask for more! They are having a German special menu from September 23 thru October 13 with authentic German dishes, beers and wines...we WILL be there@
Sat outside with our large dog on a weekday afternoon. Not busy.
The food at Ship Inn was excellent, as it has been every tine we've gone. The waitress was very attentive. We ate outside and it was quiet and pleasant. The only detraction was that the outdoor tables are rusty and need to be replaced.
It was a lovely place to take my friend for her birthday. The music didnt fit the experience though—too rock n roll. Classical or mood music would suit the style of the room we were in better in my opinion.
We were expecting a lovely evening out. Well, it was so hot inside the restaurant that my dinner companion was dripping sweat like a shower. On the rare occasions the waitress did stop at our table, she kept apologizing and complaining about how unbearable it was. We ate maybe half our meal and left. While the food might have been good, we were too uncomfortable to enjoy it, and it was not a cheap dinner.
The room was entirely too warm with no air movement. The service was average to below average in speed and attentiveness.
Great service, whoever the bar tender was on Saturday night knew his/her stuff, We were in a quiet room with one other couple so it was a very pleasant atmosphere. The other dining room was quite crowded & noisy & we were very happy not to be in that room. A little too crowded for us as it would have been difficult to have a quiet conversation. The restaurant is lovely. Our suggestion would be to move some of the tables out of room on the left as you walk into the restaurant to the back room where we've eaten before. Other then that we give the restaurant a very high rating.
The Facility,Service and Food exceeded our expectation. Compliments to the Chef, not just your usual run of the mill same old, same old recipe. Yum...... Last time I was there was 1975 Prom Night.. Still got it, there for my wife's Birthday, She was very Happy..
Ship Inn is a wonderful place to have a nice dinner whether a special occasion or not. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food is great and the atmosphere is elegant.
Service was great but food was just ok
Celebrated with my mother-in-law for her birthday. We had a wonderful time! She got a Beet Salad and Coconut Shrimp. I got the Roqfort Salad and Crab Cakes. Then we split the Strawberry Shortcake which our waitress had surprised us by putting a candle in it for my mother-in-law. We both LOVED our salads, entrees, and desserts! They were cooked perfectly and very nice sized portions! Our waitress, Carrie, was very polite and professional. We get her every time we come here and we’re very happy we do. We’ve never had any complaints. I highly recommend this place to all my friends and family. We will definitely be back soon!
Food was good, portions quite small, especially for price paid. Prepared well. Had surf n turf, which was a thin, small piece of filet and a small crab cake. Salad was about what you’d get at McDonald’s, but $6.
Service was lackluster, and inattentive. It was not horrid, but not very good at all.
Perfect restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. The staff were personable and efficient. The food was very good. Wish they had more selections for entrees. Bartender was perfect as usual!!
I was really looking forward to lunch at Ship Inn but the food was just ok. Our appetizer of calamari was not hot and was chewy. I ordered beef tips hungarian style with spaetzle and my husband had the lump crab cake. Mine was stringy and the spaetzle was dry and almost rubbery. The lump crab cake was smushed into a little patty. The server was super nice and attentive but not overly so. Too bad the food didn't match her service and personality.
Unfortunate. Have not been here for awhile and thought we would try it again. The menu was not limited than I remembered. Steak Diane was not great. Gravy was “gloppy” and the stead was tough. My guest’s seafood/pasta meal was bland.
very good food and service was outstanding place was clean and pleasent
The table we were given was very good. It was next to a window with a nice view of the patio area. The waiter was prompt, he provided us with a very good dining experience and was very professional. The quality of the food did not disappoint. The appetizer of seared, bacon wrapped shrimp was very tasty. The main course was proportioned just right and the platters were expertly garnished. The mood in the dining room was very relaxing. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves for this Mother's day dinner outing.
Food was delicious, service was very slow from the time we walked in to dessert. I had to ask someone to seat us, then I had to ask for menus. Our server was mediocre at best. Didn't seem to be on his game.
Self seating with no menu until our server appeared. Good food consumed in a pleasant environment.
I think the ambiance varies depending on where you are seated. We usually end up in a large open room on the first floor that can be noisy. The smaller dining rooms are much quieter. The food is very good every time. I have been disappointed with the food at other local inns that have highbrow reputations and prices to match. The Ship Inn has never let me down.
I previously wrote, but didn't go through. Normally very good but Mothers day not good. Hot soup was very good. Main entry was barely Luke warm. Filet was cold and poached egg was hard boiled and cold as well. Will give it only 1 more try.
We went to the Ship Inn for a Mother's Day Brunch. While I understand that the restaurant is usually closed on Sundays until 3 pm and may have been short-staffed for this unusual event, both the seating and service took much longer than expected. At least ten minutes passed from the time we were seated until we were greeted by our server – who then disappeared for at least another five minutes before he came back and took our order. The drinks took between five and ten minutes to arrive. Then began the wait for our food, which did not, however, seem to take an inordinate / unreasonable amount of time to arrive. The food was great, though.
Terrible horrible Mother’s Day . Will never be back.
Mothers Day brunch was a failure. We were the second table seated and took forever for service. The waitress was scarce, one coffee refill and we had to go to the bar to refill the water. When received our food it was cold and without taste.
Came to Ships Inn with guests from Baltimore. They usually are very smug about Baltimore being known for their seafood, especially crabs. We all ordered different seood entrees, and they were very enthusiastic about the quality of our seafood dinners. All in all it was a successful evening. Our server, Matt, was great, too. Definitely would come back.
We waited over an hour for our meal AFTER our order was taken. I had brought multiple guests and all were very disappointed by that. I was pretty frustrated. Server was personable but sporadically attentive. I do not rate critically very often but I would advise against going there if you are in a hurry.
We love the Ship Inn. it is one of the few restaurants where you can have a conversation and not have to raise your voice so that the people at your table can hear you. the ambiance is very nice and the food is great
