Sausage as a side, just right for group of old fogies.
Very good atmosphere. Noisy but fun, with good service.
As usual excellent food and service, but literally couldn't move afterwards. Must have been that sausage on the side :-)
Very welcoming from the moment you walk in the door. The food was excellent, very generous portions so don’t over order sides like we did! If you order more than 2 portions of Stilton, you get the whole giant wheel on the table to cut into.
The only criticism is the bench seating we were at was very cramped. Not great if you’re tall or large around the middle.
Old fashioned City venue.
A little loud but the food was excellent, and the sausage is well worth it!!
Proper food for people who are fed up with the vegetarian, vegan and anti-beef agenda being pushed by the metropolitan liberal minority.
Superb- you’d love it! Great traditional food, beer, wines and super service.
What an incredibly unique place! Been here for the last 250 odd years and still going strong. Really difficult to believe that places like this still exist in London. Food is simple, very traditional but handled well, atmosphere is lively and the setting is remarkable.
Another lovely lunch at Simpsons Tavern. As always staff were friendly and the food excellent and ample. Looking forward to the next visit !
Excellent (apart from the orange juice which slightly let everything else down).
Not fit for human consumption. Perhaps in 18th century London, it was.
For a slice of Dickensian culture you will note beat this place. Been going here for 20 years and it remains the same - just brilliant.
Brilliant. OK, so the seats are a bit cramped, the ground floor bar is tiny and you seem to get a sausage with everything. However, it oozes charm, the food is really nice, the beer well priced (= under £5 in London), and the staff are great once you get talking to them. If you want to experience on old city chop house, i highly recommend this one. Probably not one for a romantic date, mind.
I have already recomended to friends. Perfect lunch spot - best steak and ale pie I think I ever had. Great traditional experience, super value. Loved it.
Simpson’s is a classic City establishment and a perfect place to enjoy good food, good wine and with great service in a very relaxed environment. Been many times and never fails to disappoint!
A London Institution with good old fashioned food.
Great experience, have visited on a number of occasions in the past, I took my daughter for the first time she loved both the food and the experience.
We were there early so not busy yet and we didn't have to share a table. Service was good, friendly and understated. The pork chop was amazing (and huge) , the side dishes were generous and tasty. Overall this is a good quality, simple, good value, understated restaurant. A hidden gem.
Very good service, very good food and very nice setting
The devilled kidneys are to die for. Friendliest staff in the City.
I took two clients to Simpsons last week and they enjoyed the dining experience so much that one of them has already booked in for next week with one of their clients. Food is traditional English, we had to share a table so wouldn't work for a confidential meeting. Proper food and portion sizes too. Always a fun and enjoyable dining experience.
This restaurant is a national treasure!!! Don't be mislead by online descriptions of Simpsons as a purveyor of 'basic' English food. To be successful, a focused menu depends on high quality ingredients and careful cooking - both are to the fore at Simpsons. The food and drink is faultless. Everything from chops to roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with red wine gravy (not jus), liver and bacon, steamed puddings and house ale are sublime: 'national' cuisine of the highest order. We can't recommend the 'stewed cheese' and signature extra sausages too highly. The surroundings are refreshingly relaxed and evocative of the tavern's long history. Communal seating, on benches that once adorned Lloyds insurers, makes for a very convivial atmosphere. Staff are very efficient and witty in their service without ever being obtrusive. A place for genuine foodlovers. Enjoy a relaxed boozy lunch with friends and/or family; you won't be disappointed. My go to place in London. Don't live life without a visit....
The food is usually very filling & good. My only complaint was with the cauliflower cheese, which, for the past few times we've been there now, has looked rather old, brown and reheated. Not good at all.
We arrived as a party of 9 City dwellers looking for good food and drink at a reasonable price and we all left thoroughly happy. Simpsons is a traditional establishment that possess a real nostalgia to the food, service and ambience. Its the go to place if you want a decent pork chop or something that your grandmother would have cooked for you. Great place and highly recommended.
Simpsons is an experience! Definitely good for entertaining friends from overseas.
An all round fantastic experience. The highlight being Bass on draught - try finding that elsewhere in London.
Always a delightfully prickly service delivered with a wry smile. Food is excellent, very good value and I continue to go back time after time.
Not been back for a long time, but had a great time and will definitely go again.
We haven’t been to Simpson’s for a few years, largely because of starting a business at some distance from London and partly because when making infrequent visits subsequently, standards had dipped.
I’m happy to report, however, that our lunch on Monday was much like it was when first eating there 50 years ago-excellent and refreshingly traditional.
Service was very good thanks to our waitress Tina who was pleasant and attentive.
Our friends who had never heard of Simpsons Tavern shared our opinion and a delightful occasion was enjoyed by all.
A wonderful experience with Kiri as our waitress. The Holiday season is not complete without a lunch at Simpson’s.
We dine here once a quarter for a catch up with friends. The service is always immaculate. If you like to eat meat of various verities with an old school city vibe this is the perfect place.
We booked for a meet up over breakfast at 10.15 and we were told that the kitchen closed at 10.30 so we had to rush our order. Food arrived quickly and wasn’t very hot. The waiter hung around for us to finish whilst other staff were preparing for lunch. No other customers. If the restaurant closes it’s kitchen at 10.30 they shouldn’t accept bookings at 10.15. A rushed pricey and cold breakfast.
Fantastic meal, amazing service, great company.. What more could you ask for? We will be back
Wonderful staff and good food. Simpsons is a lovely place to visit if you come to London but be sure to book well ahead. We took my partner's 85 year old mother and she absolutely loved it. Very traditional food beautifully cooked.
Thé nice thing is that this restaurant is like pulling on a favorite pair of socks . Comfort and warm
Super as ever
Went to Simpsons Tavern on 2/12/2019 with my friend. Greeted by friendly staff and seated in a traditional cosy setting in the restaurant. We were served with plates of roast turkey, roast potatoes, vegetables, sausages in red wine gravy. Pudding was ginger sponge and custard. All washed down with a pint of fine ale. A lovely experience. Make sure you're hungry if you go to Simpsons Tavern. Whenever I'm in London I will go there. You need to make a reservation. 5 stars all the way. George from Liverpool.
Love this place, if it was so spendy id go all the time!
Thanks to Ben,Nico and all the amazing staff that made our lunch time treat so enjoyable.
