Solterra Winery and Kitchen
The wine is subpar, pricy and reminds me of a $10 bottle at Walmart but marked up at $50-$70. The food is advertised as shareable but it’s really not much of a good variety just plain veggies and sides nothing crazy. Large plates are just personal meals, very awkward to share with a group of 4. Food is subpar as well, really plain low flavor and kind of weak ingredients. Weak meaning nothing stood out and just reminded me of those “here are the chicken tenders but I added the parsley for the experience” Also if you are here for passport do not order apps as an entree they won’t let you use the card saying it “has to be a large plate not small plate” I’ve had this card for three years went to almost every restaurant in SD with this card and I order an app as an entree every time because I don’t eat that much and it gets comped with the passport dining card. It was ridiculous and will not be coming back, this place is honestly not worth it, so many great places in this area worth the value, this place is not.
Our server was great! Food and wine paired was amazing. Definitely coming back.
Very slow and poor service. Server kept complaining about how busy it was and was overwhelmed.
Requested dining room table and ended up in the bar - practically yelling down the table to hear each other. Service was very good but food was nothing anyone in our group felt matched the hype. We were underwhelmed overall.
We loved our server and the music! We come every couple of months and like the food changes. Makes it interesting!
Our server Cindy was wonderful, but the food was not. I hate to even write a review because our server was so nice, but the food was not good at all. What was described as flatbread tasted and looked exactly like Pillsbury’s pizza dough. I know because I have made it for my kids. My husband’s crab cake tasted as if it was bought from a grocery store and the wine was just ok. I hope improvements can be made. $60 is a lot of money for a bad lunch.
Food was good but portions were extremely small and not a good value for the price. The people were very nice but even sitting in the far corner, the noise level was so high we could barely converse. I really wanted to like the place as it is very cute and funky, but no, we will not go back.
Great crab cake, seviche and mushroom flat bread
We went there, party of 4. Ordered the flatbread , alright. Another member of our table got the lamb burger, it was ok too. And we also go the cheese board fair tasting. The restaurant didn’t acknowledge that it was a birthday for my daughter we were celebrating. Anyways, overall the restaurant was good. Great service though, we had a very nice waiter.
Nice dinner - love their lamb burgers and Brussels sprouts
Made a reservation and checked to make sure they were open, everything was ready to go! Show up to the establishment to meet my friend and the place was completely closed except for one table of a small group of people inside. Seems like it was a private event or something. Just really wish they would have notified me or prohibited me from making a reservation if they were going to have the place closed. My friend and I drove from equally long distances to figure out our dinner was not going to happen. Pretty disappointed is an understatement.
Enjoyable evening of wine, food....
Honestly I thought the food was not nearly as good as it was this time last year. The tomato basil soup was too salty and rather uninteresting in flavor. The beet salad was not as tasty as it was last year -- not as diverse with the ingredients
Perhaps you have another chef compared with a year ago?
Everyday is a special occasion when we dine with friends. This time we headed to Solterra for happy hour dinner (a.k.a. Old Peoples 5:00pm dinner special). The food was very good including the Cornish game hens. We had some wine because this is a working winery. We also ordered the platter, a mix of olives, dips, breads, veggies and meats. The board has become a standard when we dine here.
One of our favorite spots unfortunately on this visit service was none attentive at best. Off day? We’ll be back
We had such a wonderful time tonight !! My friend and I meet here as an in between for Carlsbad and Cardiff. The wine and food are divine. We loved our server Gabby and of course we we are always over the top welcomed by Andrea !! This establishment hits all the right notes - delicious food, amazing food, and relaxing vibe. Thank you Solterra !!!
Service was great! Got there just as they opened. Our server, he was very attentive ) We sat outside, it was nice but there were quite a few flies, not the restaurant’s fault, but be forewarned if that’s something that really “bugs” you...lol, ha, get it? Sorry, had 3 glasses of sav blanc. Anyway, friendly staff, good food & wine, nice location, plenty of parking across the street, I’ll come here again for my ladies lunch. :)
The food is always delicious! What a great chef. Great selections of wines and just a fun place.
The staff is so lovely! Which is so important. I did appreciate the half-glass wine options so you could try a few different wines. I didn’t love the wines I had, and I’d say I picked bad - but I asked the server to pick the best options for the types of wine I like....
the food - we had the mixed plate cheese board which was beautiful ... the shrimp cocktail was beyond boring. It wasn’t a terrible experience but I don’t think we will go back.....
We sat on the patio and they had a large speaker playing the performers music from inside the restaurant extremely loud. We were trying to have a dinner conversation with our friends and it was like we were in a very loud bar. We are at dinner and not in a bar. We asked for management to turn the music down 3 times and they did nothing. The food was overpriced for what it was.
SAT OUTSIDE, VERY LARGE DOG, BLOCKING ISLE AND WAITRESSES. LARGE OWL OF WATER SPLASHING ALL OVER. BUT EVERYBODY INCLUDING WAITRESSES STOPPED TO PET DOG.
VERY CROWDED SO CAN NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT SERVICE.
Great but busy so service was just ok
We completely enjoyed the paella and salads. We did feel like we would have wanted more rice in the paella. Our guest was from Barcelona and he commented on the small amount of rice which is the inexpensive part of the dish. We had creme brûlée and it was excellent. We of course, enjoyed the music of Sprague and Patton.
Celebrating another year of my wife being cancer free’n
The Land and Sea was amazing, sweet scallops cooked perfectly, and beef cheek braised to moist perfection
The chocolate cake and French press coffee was the choice finale to a terrific meal!
Great place with great wine. This is a must go to place.
Food seemed stale and pre-prepared. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food.
Great restaurant and they went out of our way to make our anniversary special. Thank you!
Ordered a medium-rare steak and recieved a medium-well steak. For the price of the plate, it should have been cooked properly. Our favorite dishes of the night were the patatas bravas with avocado aoili, the hummus, and the ceviche. The wine was excellent and the service was excellent. Appreciated the pace of the night.
Solterra is a wonderful place to enjoy great wine and food!
Service was awesome 😍😍food delicious...Tomato soup a little salty 😝love this place and will definitely share with friends 😍
Solterra does not disappoint. Cuban sliders, mussels, charcuterie plate--all amazing. Great service on the front patio for six of us. I always make this a stop when I'm in Leucadia.
Solterra is a hit or miss. Sometimes the food is fantastic and sometimes it just not worth spending the money on.
Great location-excellent happy hour menu and super wide range of wine selection, including wine from casks.
The service was great. It was really cold out and they sat us outside but all of their heat lamps were broken so it was tough to relax and enjoy the ambiance.
Great food and wine! We had the asparagus, surf and turf, quail, and all were excellent. The white wines and reds are of excellent caliber. Great local spot!
A definite must! Great wine, location, food pairing. We ordered the Rosè and Syrah, and charcuterie board. Wish we had more time to explore the winery, will definitely be back. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather and people watching. A bit of delay when ordering our second round and getting water refilled, but the staff was friendly and helpful.
Super slow service even though they weren’t busy. Food was decent and wine was good
The kitchen stopped making food at 830 half way through our meal ... bummer as it was a birthday dinner with out of town guests :(
am terribly sorry for your experience. We were very short staffed that evening due to an emergency. It was completely unacceptable and I feel terrible that this happened. Id like reach out with a large gift card to make it up but I never heard a response. My apologies once again and hope that you will come back in. Sincerely, Chris (Owner)
This winery/restaurant was woefully understaffed and 5 of our muscles didn’t open. We had to ask twice for a bowl to put the muscle shells in. We also ordered the raviolis which was rather expensive for 4 bite size pasta pockets! There are too many other Italian restaurants to try. We won’t be back.
I am sorry that you didn't have a better experience with us. We definitely had more customers than we anticipated on this evening and were understaffed. Apologies once again. Chris
