Roast Bone Marrow and Parsley Salad
Whole Baked Fish on Green and White Vegetables
St John has a clear philosophy. Their chefs work hard and their servers work hard. Clearly a lot of thought has been dedicated to the topic of what food to serve and how to serve it. The ingredients are high quality. They are prepared with tradition and honor the history of using the entirety of an animal, something that more restaurants, and societies as a whole, would do well to incorporate into their philosophies. But in the same way that a fish does not know it is swimming in water, the quality, or by my diagnosis, lack thereof, is not the fault of whatever chef was working that night, nor even of their founder, Fergus Henderson. I place responsibility for my meal at the feet of English cuisine as an aggregate. The water through which the chefs at St John swim is entirely English. This is English food at its very, very best. But the issue might just be that English food is beyond redemption. To have spent hundreds of years ransacking continents trading for spice and have incorporated exactly none of them into the food is an inflexibility beyond forgiving. By maintaining this, the most English devotion to uninteresting overcooked food, St John continues a tradition as old as the English dynasty, a complete absence of imagination.
Lovely food (the sprouting broccoli with vinaigrette was a sensation) I was only sorry I missed out on one of the specials (braised squid). Attentive and knowledgeable waiters. Nice surroundings and geat value for money. The house wine is excellent value too. Looking forward to the next visit when I hope to finally taste the brown bread ice cream.
Faultless, exceptional food coupled with exceptional service. Will be going back to devour the rest of the menu.
Absolutely excellent. Ambiance manages to be intimate even in the bright white industrial setting. Food is truly simple but next level! All the flavors go so well together. Service was fantastic. We will be back!
Very much enjoyed our evening here. Excellent service and the food was delicious, although I was a bit nonplussed by the famed bone marrow and parsley dish. I wondered what the fuss was about. The ambience was great - I liked the simplicity of the dining room and felt relaxed. We had a great evening and would definitely return.
First time visitor to St John. Really enjoyed the meal, although for the fact that it was offal we were eating I did wonder if it was a little over priced. Still, looking forward to going again
Classic and hearty British food with a unique and great ambience.
I love this place but found last night pretty mediocre. Kitchen roll as napkins, a rather bored waiter and few specials. The blackberry galette dessert was pretty poor.
It needs to get its mojo back.
The food is really good! I would love to have plates for the bread and butter, especially under covid19 era. I would feel safer if all staff was wearing masks. It was only the staff serving using masks but not the staff working behind the bar of in the bakery.. Why to make drinks without a face cover?
The space is absolutely stunning for starters! We were sat in the main dining room, and loved the openness of the kitchen spaces all around us. The food was impeccable, and the waiter was informative about the dishes. The bone marrow to start and the madeleines to finish are a must. The only thing I would say is that I would have loved some music to have been playing, I always find it slightly awkward when there isn’t any.
Fabulous food and service on our first trip to St John - it doesn't disappoint!
Absolutely lovely meal. The liver starter was one of the best starters we have had and the bone marrow was classic. The mains were also amazing; the tongue was perfectly cooked and the mallard was delicious. A great meal!
Outstanding meal, delicious wine and a lovely ambience. Highly recommended!
Amazing food, great, friendly service. The Mince on Dripping Toast was wonderful
Superb as ever, lovely being back in my favourite place and to see it so buzzy
Incredible food (their signature bone marrow is a must) and outstanding service. Their menu changes regularly with unique and interesting dishes. We had 4 adults and all ordered something different and it was hard to choose a favorite!
Great restaurant, simple but clean interior design. The food was very original and amazing at great value. Highly recommend!
Staggeringly great cuisine with attentive highly professional staff.
Wonderful meal, reminded me of meals my grandma used to make. She was an amazing cook :)
Fantastic - definitely lived up to and surpassed expectations. Foodie heaven!
It was such a lovely dining experience. Thank you!
Dishes you will get nowhere else
Generously dolled out
Always good when you see the owner enjoying his own restaurant
Never disappoints, world class food without even a hint of pretentiousness.
Lovey lunch at St John - helpful waiters , delicious food and great ambience.
A delightful and somewhat out of the ordinary eating establishment.
Best restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time. Every dish packed with flavour and great service.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. Fantastic food, interesting dishes, good wine list, knowledgable and friendly staff, great space. Go there.
Excellent service and outstanding food. Would definitely return!
Our favourite restaurant in London. They are the masters in delicious food and relaxed, welcoming hospitality.
Truly superb food, as always. Incredible cooking paired with attentive and helpful service always leads to an incredible experience.
Worth every penny and I’ll definitely be returning again and again. This was my 7th or 8th timing dining here and it won’t be my last.
It was sublime, service, food everything- the nicest bread and butter I've ever had and the longest wine list I've ever seen!
Delicious tripe it's a must to have! Very unique place and menu.
Good value, delicious & interesting food, friendly staff
It's all about the food... no flashy decor or overly exuberant waiting staff, just very good, tasty food and wine. Loved it!
Food was great, on the pricier side but what we were expecting. Service was good during the meal but when we, as students, didn’t leave a tip after an already very expensive meal, the waiter was visibly annoyed and walked off in a huff. Then when we got up and left we were completely blanked by both wait staff. Nevertheless, it is a very nice restaurant with well crafted dishes and a good dining experience.
Amazing honest best restaurant in london
Celebratory lunch. Good mixture of starters between 6 of us, arrive early to have a chance of a “special”. Best dishes yesterday: starters: mussels and kohlrabi, rissole, fried pollock, bone marrow; mains: grey mullet, venison, pigeon; pudding: blackberry sponge and custard, strawberry ice cream. We enjoyed everything. Bottle of Bollinger rose not greedily priced and very good St John red and White House wines. Charming efficient staff. A Negroni as Fergus likes it makes a good start to proceedings.
Just a stunning evening nothing more needs to be said. Will come again soon
This justifiably legendary restaurant provided an evening of perfect pleasure!
St. John delivers every time. The restaurant has lost nothing of its signature classic flair despite COVID. I love it more every time I go. Rarebit and twice baked chocolate cake were particularly excellent.
