Stage Left Steak
The food was delicious however the portions were very small! Was seated in a side area with a ton of foot traffic! Overall enjoyed my meal!
Although the food was tasty, we found it overpriced for the location (midtown Manhattan prices in New Brunswick). My wife's steak was undercooked. We mention it to the waiter, but he seemed indifferent to it. We didn't ask to send it back because we were heading to a show, but for the price, we'd expect the steak to come out correctly the first time.
We had a party of 4, my wife and two kids joined me, and we had a fabulous time. Service was attentive, mood and ambiance was lively and classy, seats and lighting very comfortable. Food was amazing, better than our other 1-2 visits over the past year!! Seems like the owners and operators have NOT lost their passion and still enjoy running a top notch restaurant in the heart of NB across from the revived Monument Sq. Great night out and worth every penny.
Excellent service and delicious food. Love the cheese board. The wagyu on the hot salt block was divine. I've been eating at Stage Left since they opened and they just keep getting better! Thank you Mark and Francis!
It was my first time there but based on this visit, I thought the food was just Ok based on what we paid. I I plan on dining here again very soon and afterwards can hopefully provide a more comprehensive review.
We had a great experience here two weeks ago: great food, perfect ambience (lighting, music selection, music level) service and hospitality. This visit the lighting was too high, music selection was really poor and way to loud for the room and some woman was drunk and shreiking in tbe back room and staff made no effort to addresss it. We and other diners were looking at each other thinking “I’ll have what she’s having” a la When Harry Met Sally, but it really was inappropriate for a restaurant like this to allow that behavior. And while we ordered a $75 bottle of wine, apparently that was too inexpensive and the “welcome” feeling disappeared from service. I was embarrassed because I had told our guests how great the place was. Stage Left is very expensive and while the food was excellent both times, at $600 for four people, you’ve got to get it all right: food, ambience, service and hospitality. (And Francis, while I haven’t seen you in probably 20 years, I’m pretty sure you were at the bar while we were there all evening on 11/26/19)
Matt at the bar (and the entire staff) was fantastic - what a great place! Food, ambiance and service were all top notch.
Both our meals were very under-cooked, and no staff checked in with us to rectify the situation. The food is expensive and for that price, I would expect better food and much better service
This was my third dinner at Stage Left. They had a private party that night which monopolized the restaurant’s resources such that service was terrible. We arrived just after 6:30. We ordered drinks, one of which did not arrive at the table for an hour. A simple salad and a bowl of soup didn’t arrive until 8:15. Dinner was finally served at 9pm, nearly 2 1/2 hours after we sat down. As to the food, the charcuterie was very good. The lamb was done perfectly. I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon medium rare. It was barely cooked, the meat was cool instead of warm, and the cheddar cheese was in a small thick clod in one corner. The experience was very disappointing as the restaurant clearly wasn’t capable of handling the level of business that evening.
Amazing. Great Food. It's pricey but it's amazing for special occasions.
Place was good but a bit pricey for its location and what it offered. Service was very slow for some reason as it was not particularly crowded when we were there (perhaps there was a large group in a private room?). Overall we might go back someday but on the whole found it a bit underwhelming.
We had the tomahawk steak for 2 ,one of the best steaks i have ever had. Buttery tender and a good beef flavor not overly spiced.
Service was excellent waitstaff was friendly and attentive.
General atmosphere and music was very good the space fine but as more people were arriving to the ajacent room they had to wait near our table no problem for us we were done as they were getting busy.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! Service was tremendous! Great date spot!
I have been going to stage left since I was about 14 years old for all of my families special occasions. The owner Marc is almost always there and always makes a table
Visit and the Maître d’ Christian is always a pleasure. I have down Christian for probably 10 years or so and watched him grow from server to bartender to manager of the restaurant and he provides excellent service and always makes sure everything is just right. My waiters all have always been very accommodating and attentive I apologize to the man who was my server tonight as his name slips my mind but i have had him before and he is excellent along with all of the staff I have encountered It was time I wrote a glowing review for this restaurant as it has always been a favorite and special place of mine with excellent food atmosphere but above all excellent service.
It just doesn't get any better than this. Owners are real pros, staff are superbly trained and engaged, and those steaks! Everything was prepared perfectly, they made a great and unusual wine recommendation, and our guest was sincerely impressed. My wife and I enjoyed the tomahawk (they understand how to get a really good char), creamed spinach, truffle fries, and onion rings (amazing). Caesar salads were fresh and perfectly dressed. Bread pudding for dessert was the ideal way to end such a great meal.
Stage Left Steak may be the finest steakhouse around (certainly as good as those in Manhattan and especially Brooklyn). Pricey, but what good steakhouse isn't?
The meal was excellent. The staff could not have been lovelier or more attentive. We especially appreciated meeting the owner. He was a pure delight and could not have been more gracious.
Food and service was very good to excellent. Noise level was very high.
The Strip Steak at Stage Left Steak was delicious. It was juicy, tender and grilled to perfection. The Bib Lettuce Salad was refreshing and the side of grilled Asparagus was delightfully crisp. The atmosphere was calm, inviting and the location was a quick one minute walk to the theatre.
Stage Left is always excellent, we are never disappointed.
We had 2 hours to eat before going to a play The food was pricey the service inattentive to the point that we missed coffee and dessert as the staff paid no attention to the time .
The quality of the food was excellent .
Service was very slow. Took 20 min for order to be taken Had to ask for our drinks twice. Steak was raw in thicker part of steak. Ordered medium.
Love Stage Left! It’s always crazy busy before a show but they do their very best to meet your expectation. We were seated next to an extremely loud group, would have been kinda nice if someone had asked them to be sensitive to the others who were dining. Sometimes we couldn’t even talk because it was 6 people all yelling and guffawing at the same time. All said though - will go back over and over again because I can trust them to always be great!!
Wonderful dinner with a great menu everyone will be able to find what they prefer
Outstanding wine listing
Hard to believe one restaurant could offer such an outstanding selection
The Service, definitely on par with upscale service found in Manhattan
I particularly like the attention the hosts give to every table, more than one visit, to be absolutely certain everyone is enjoying their dining experience
New Brunswick and central Jersey are fortunate to have such a great restaurant close by
This was our Anniversary dinner before seeing a show at the State theatre
The bartender was excellent and went out of his way to give first class service.
Even though we allowed an hour and 45 minutes to dine before the show we ended up leaving without getting our entree so as not to miss opening curtain.
Our waiter was very inattentive. The manager? Did apologize profusely and told us the appetizer we had eaten and drinks we had were on him .
Would definitely not recommend going before a show because they are so slow.
I ate a bag of skittles in the theatre as my main course Anniversary dinner 😐
we were there for a pre theater dinner. we were upfront about the fact that we had a show to get to, which was on the same street. they said it was absolutely no problem. we had a 5 pm reservation and the show was at 7 pm. our food was served to us at 6:45 pm. hardly enough time to enjoy a meal. we were only able to quickly consume our food without time for coffee or dessert. they said we could come back after the show and they would heat up our food. when we asked what time they were open until, they told us 9 pm. the show ended around 9 pm. therefore it was not possible for us to return. this was absolutely poor planning timewise with the restaurant. a restaurant catering to showgoers should have this absolutely planned out.
the people at the table behind us got up and left at 6:45 as they still did not have their food and stormed out of the restaurant. there were several disgruntled customers and by 7 pm when we left the restaurant was basically empty as apparently everyone was going to the show.
We were there to celebrate my daughter and husband's birthday. Bad choice. Services were good. Foods were bad. Too overly priced but tasted bad. Too salty. lobster tempura too salty. Fried chicken was not fried. Was like baked but very dried. Grilled cheese was a joke. $17.95 for 2 slices of bread and cheese.
Were were seated by the bar. I requested another table before we were seated but was told that they are fully booked.
Overall was experience was bad to the point that we didn't dare to give it a try on the desserts.
It was a waste of our $265 dinner.
I just selected "Yes" in response to Open Table's question, "Would you recommend Stage Left Steak to a friend?", but honestly, only to friends eating out on expense accounts. The food here was very good, but not good enough to merit the absolutely ridiculous prices. The service was lovely however.
Great food, great service!
Great and friendly service, nice ambience, delicious food, will definitely return.
I had a lovely first experience at Stage Left Steak. The food was awesome! We tried pretty much all of the appetizers and they were all spectacular but the lobster tempura was my favorite. The main course was great as well (the fried chicken) and so was dessert (the sundae for two). I would definitely go back for the food alone, but the staff was excellent as well. They were super knowledgable, and when they noticed I was cold sitting outside they brought me a wrap. Awesome service! I will be going back.
Stage Left was an amazing experience. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. One of the best meals we ever had.
A half dozen times each fall/winter we take our grown children out for very expensive delicious exquisite steaks at Stage Left and then to The State Theater for a show. Thank you for a great evening.
Hamburger bun was burnt. I have had better tasting steaks at less expensive restaurants. Definitely left knowing I will not be returning. For the cost of the food, I expect much higher standards.
We were disappointed in both steak entrees that we ordered. My husbands 24oz bone in filet mignon was more bone than meat and my filet mignon was ordered medium and served rare. They took my meat back and refired the same piece which resulted in a dry piece of filet mignon. The side vegetables were terrific. I doubt we will ever return to Stage Left. We will stick to the Frog and Peach or Nicholas.
Make the trip every year for my birthday. The best steak place around, with the best service!!! Love you guys and don’t mind the price at all! I am OK in paying for good food...thanks much
This is the best steakhouse I’ve dined at in a long time. Wonderful drinks and meal.
Had strip steak which wasn't the best. Pricey restaurant for quality of food. Don't mind spending those prices but expect food to be much better than it was.
We went to for restaurant week so prices were a bit lower than usual, for the price portions were small, none of the less it was good but not the best I ever had. Meaning that if the prices were lower that week. Ifw they're serving the same quality of food when the prices are higher it wouldn't make sense for me to spend that amount of money on okay tasting food.
Great meal and environment to catch up with friends. It was also amazing to meet the owner, who was incredibly welcoming. Will definitely be back!
Calamari and the Stage Left Burger were delicious!!
