Stephen's on State
With cognac cream
Parmesan risotto, gulf shrimp, artichokes, Sun dried tomato, white wine sauce
No hottest around, unable to be seated. Patty fling
I loved everything about Stephen's!! Food was delicious, servers were very attentive. Cute atmosphere. I will definitely be returning. Thank you for a great pre-birthday dinner!!
If they didn’t have a groupon I’d never go. It’s super expensive and SOOOOOO loud in there. But with the groupon it’s worth it
This was our 10 year anniversary of meeting on a blind date that started with dinner at Stephen’s. We try to go every March 5th to celebrate and always have a good meal. It’s a plus to have live music entertainment
Stephen's On State is our go to place when we what to dine out with friends. We have been dining at Stephen's for the past couple years and we have always found the food fabulous and the drinks tasty. After 9pm during the weekends, the place seems to get a bit roudie with live music as well as the small dance floor packed.
It does get a bit loud so if you're looking for a quiet experience, I would book a reservation 5 to 7:30 pm. Stephen's on state street may be a little pricey for some, but then again, Quality is long remembered after price is forgotten.
Even though it was a Saturday evening, the service was rather slow. The server, assistant server, & busboy were pleasant/adequate at his/her job. The food was alright. Drinks were way overpriced. Will most likely not return.
Had dinner reservation for 2 in dining room but ate @ the bar.
Service from the bartenders was excellent. Food was very good although the green beans served with my NY Sirloin tasted like they were frozen. House made french fries were excellent. I would definitely go back & recommend.
Seating, service and food were excellent. Stevens is one of our favorite places to dine.
My first time at Stephen's. Great bar! The food was great, I had the surf and turf special, the steak was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. Our server Tina was outstanding, very pleasant and attentive. The noise level was a bit high which made it somewhat difficult to have a conversation but not a game changer. I'm looking forward to my next visit!
Steak was excellent. Service was tremendous. Can’t wait to go back
Their price are overpriced and not worth the quality even with the groupon
Rather pay full price with a better quality of food and service
You get what you pay
Great atmosphere , AMAZING food, And service ! One of our favorite places !
Very disappointed in our recent dinner at Stephen's. We were a party of 5 with a reservation on Sunday evening following Valentine's Day. They were still offering a limited menu, which was surprising. It took 15 minutes for bread to appear on the table, another 10 before a waiter took our order. My mother's lobster tail was overcooked and rubbery, my rare seared tuna had clearly been cooked hours (if not days) earlier and held in the cooler, and my SIL was given the wrong order entirely. A corrected plate took 25-30 minutes to arrive (instead of being fired immediately, as it should have been) and the only consideration offered by the waiter was to offer her a free dessert - this when the entire party had already been finished eating for 15 minutes. For a $300 meal ticket, I would expected better all around.
You are paying for the name, not the quality. I won’t be coming back. My wife had the valentine surf and turf, and the lobster tail was over cooked and very chewy. The butter sauce tasted like oil more than butter.
I had the special dry aged ribeye, and it was charred and over cooked when I ordered it medium rare.
The batter for the fried calamari had no flavor to it. If we didn’t have the chili sauce on top, it wouldn’t of had any flavor at all.
The highlight of the entire meal for me was the lobster bisque. Overall, I could of gotten as good as a meal, if not better, at half the price from any number of restaurants.
Enjoyable Valentines dinner, excellent service and food.
Food was good. The restaurant needs an update; we were the only customers on a Saturday at lunchtime. Sad.
Wasn't expecting dinner for 4 on a Thursday night to be so excruciatingly slow. stood at the host stand for 5 minutes before a host showed up. then he wanted to talk to some customers for a few minutes before we were seated. food service was also incredibly slow. dinner for 4 plus wine and appetizers was over 300 including a tip. way overpriced. huge tip, because of the high cost, for mediocre service and food.
Great food and ambiance! We love Stephens but the service was just okay. She followed the steps of service just fine but didn’t go above and beyond in any way. Would have preferred a server with a personality and a smile.
Fine dining in the heart of Media. We always start with the delicious House Salad which is more than the usual salad you get in most places. Three of us had the salmon and were very pleased with the taste and portion and ample sides. The steak portion of the Surf and Turf was done to perfection. The lobster portion was delicious and did not even need butter but was somewhat smaller than expected. The coffee is always brewed just right. Great service. We’ll be back soon.
Very old school continental menu, but very well done. Nice classic change of pace.
Excellent evening. Dan was phenomenal as our waiter, entertaining, knowledgeable and courteous. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back or recommend to others. A very good experience.
Food was good and came out quick the service was also good and also had live music. Was a good date night
So we had heard nothing but great things about your restaurant and decided to finally go with some close friends of ours. It started out well with drinks and went downhill from there. Please note our waitress was very nice.
The appetizer I ordered, Shrimp LeJon was not good at all. The bacon was super tough/chewy and overcooked. There was barely enough horseradish sauce on the plate as well.
We then ordered dinner. Ordering went fine until, however it took a very long time to get our dinner and my wife's dish was wrong. She ordered Veal Saltimbuca and was served Veal Pescatore. Normally not the worst thing, but she is allergic to seafood. We were with another couple and the husband there was nice enough to trade dishes with my wife as to avoid waiting for the right dish.
And then at around 745pm the band started playing. They were SO LOUD we literally couldn't talk to each other. SO the rest of dinner we sat there in awkward silence staring at each other.
So we will not be returning or recommending Stephens on State to any friends or family anytime soon.
Thanks so much for listening,
The Rib Eye I ordered was one of the best steaks I have had I a long time will definitely be going back
For it to call itself a steak house , the ribeye could have been a better cut.
Awesome experience, thanks for a wonderful evening!
Always a good meal and service at Stephen’s on State!
WAY too expensive for what you get. small menu. not very diversified. waitress was a pest.
I reserved a booth for my birthday celebration. Once again, they did not give us a booth. This is not the first time that we were disappointed with the handling of our reservation and denied our request. If you archive the communication that I sent to you previously, you can see that I am correct. In that communication you will read that you (Stephan's) assured me that it would not happen again.
Also, we had to wait too long for our server to come to the table, then we had to wait approximately 20 minutes to get our second drink. During this time, 4 other tables were seated and served before we were. At the table next to us the server apologized and actually comped them a drink because he took too long; not only were we not comped a drink, we receive no apology. We were not looking for anything free. Then we were brought the wrong entree'. We were so upset and my lady could not even eat. We then asked another person for our check because our server was nowhere to be found. Upon receiving our check and we noticed that we were charged for something that was not what we ordered. Yikes.
Checked the m out after taking advantage of a Groupon offer. Staff was very polite and professional. Appetizers were fantastic. Mistake I made was ordering chicken from a place know for steak. It was so over cooked if I threw at someone it would knock them out. I am going to give them another shot and order something else. I would have complained had I not had the Groupon offer.
This experience was disappointing, and was only worth the $21 value of the Groupon we used to pay for the majority of the bill—not the almost $100 bill we would've owed. First, because the establishment is so small, the live music is so loud that it makes any meaningful conversation impossible, no matter where you sit in the restaurant. We switched tables because our initial table was closer to the door, and the noise level was equivalent to standing in front of the stage at a rock concert. This might be enjoyable for an after-dinner crowd of bar goers, but it was not at all enjoyable for dinner at 8. According to the waitress, they have live music every night but Monday, when they have some form of trivia—so if you were thinking you'd go on a quiet weeknight, think again.
After moving as far back into the restaurant as possible, we were then again disappointed, this time by the food. The menu is impressive on paper, but the dishes lacked the complexity you would expect from a $30+ entree. I jokingly commented that I thought the kitchen had some moral aversion to spices, and not detecting my jest, the waitress seemed to agree. Drinks were also prepared poorly, my martini shaken (not stirred) and therefore, diluted—a mistake only made by a novice bartender or foolish 007 fan.
While the dessert and friendly waitstaff were redeeming, overall, this experience was only worth the price of the Groupon, not the prices they seem to ordinarily charge.
We had a six year old with us. Our waiter put his order in too soon. He was basically done eating before our dinners arrived. He became bored and rather than disturb other guests we had our meals boxed and left. I was sitting alone at the table waiting for the check after other wait staff had boxed our meals. The waiter finally stopped at our table and asked if "we" wanted to see the dessert menu. I asked him to you see anyone sitting here and our food is boxed. He said he didn't think it was a long time between when my grandsons meal arrived and the rest of the table. Also when he brought my grandson's food he said he very careful because the dishes are extremely hot. Why would you do that. Another point was when we asked about a children's menu he said there was none but you offered chicken fingers with fries and /or Mac and cheese. He didn't tell us they were two separate orders. I paid $8 for Mac and cheese that was too hot to eat and $9.50 for chicken cutlets and fries. Your chicken fingers are not prepared in a manner most 6 year olds enjoy. The evening was a disaster and planned as a special birthday event for our dinner guest. We have been to Stephens in the past and enjoyed our visit. Perhaps your wait staff needs to be more attentive to guests dining with young children
Tom was excellent in his service. From are arrival until we left his attention to detail was great
The food was mediocre. Soda was flat, appetizer was over cooked. Mashed potatoes were hard. Asparagus was good. Crab cakes were just ok. Steak was ok, potato wedges were not cooked. For the price I was expecting a great meal. There were 3 of us and we all agreed, we won't go back.
Loved the seared tuna, Caesar salad! My husband had the seared scallops-great ! Always good food and service!
Steaks were very good
Homemade steak fries very bland little flavor
Restaurant is very loud
We made a reservation and seated when we arrived. Service was excellent Ana very attentive. Food was delicious!!We will definitely return.
Dinner was delicious. It’s a little pricey but worth it.
The food was amazing & filling. We went on a Friday night & they had s nice live band playing later in the evening. The staff was very friendly. Will definitely be going back.
The food is always good. The staff can be a little ever-present; meaning five minutes after my friend arrived the waiter wanted to take our orders. Thankfully, we were done dinner before the band started. It can be quite difficult to have a conversation once the music starts.
