Whole flounder was awesome! Great service. Very, very nice restaurant.
This was our first experience at Steven W's. The reviews looked good and we were in town for a show at the Opera House, so why not, let's try it. The building was really cool with a downstairs bar and seating, however, we were seated upstairs, after the restaurant called to ask us if we were okay with that. The upstairs is just as nice and on a cold night, it was warm and cozy.
The food was wonderful. We were interested in the menu, but once we heard the specials, that was it. We were hooked on what the chef had prepared. I had flounder and my wife had salmon. Both were delicious and the salad was great too. We shared that. Plenty...the server offered to split it, but charged a $3 split fee. Wasn't too pleased with that, but oh well. Everything was cooked perfectly and was very warm when served. Not able to say that a lot at restaurants.
We are going back and will try other items...specials and off the menu. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
Steven Ws is a beautiful and clean restaurant. They are taking covid protocols thoroughly. The service was great, prompt without hovering. The scallop appetizer was the best! The entrees were good but sides were cool and unseasoned. Overall it wasn’t a bad experience but will try somewhere else.
The food and service was outstanding! We will definitely be going back!
Service was great , food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. We’ll definitely visit here again.
The flounder is a signature dish, and was fabulous. Huge portion. Others had the steak with Bernaise sauce , and from past experience, it is also fabulous. Their coffee is wonderful. Friends and I have a holiday tradition of going to The Gallery ( gift shop) in Newberry, and then having an early dinner at Stephen W’s. We live in another town but wouldn’t miss this annual “trip”.
Our third time eating at Steven W's while going to the Newberry Opera House. We both had delicious grouper dinners and a nice crab cake appetizer - the restaurant and staff are very Covid responsible and we felt very comfortable eating there. Good spacing out of tables! Delicious homemade rolls and wonderful service.
I love thé place.
Merci
Je recommanderai et viendrai plus souvent.
Je recommande ce restaurant . Son chef est quelqu'un de sympathique. La viande est cuite merveilleusement bien...
It was fantastic. Best seat in the house. 2 chairs up front so you could see lights!
Food was excellent. Christina, our server, was the best. Made it a great night out with friends.
Amazing food! I will definitely go back there again.
My husband and I love Steven W’s. The food is always a pleasure for the palate. The service is always excellent. It’s located downtown Newberry so you can go for a stroll after dinner. The opera house is across the street. Great food, great service, great location!!
Best halibut we've had since going to Alaska to get it fresh. Very well prepared with generous portions. All the accompaniments complemented the meal. Other member of our party had the veal saltimbocca and it was excellent as well. They had 4 deserts on the menu so we just ordered one of each and passed around the table. All were wonderful. Good wine suggestion from the waiter.
Loved the ambiance and food was outstanding. Enjoyed dining in a repurposed older building. The entrees were well prepared and flavor jumped off the plate. Some wonderful desserts followed the meal. The almond cookie boats and chocolate mousse were especially delightful. Would recommend Steven W’s to friends when visiting Newberry.
Had a very nice dinner returning to Steven W's for the first time in a few years. Travel from Columbia is a bit long but well worth it for the change of scenery. Only complaints were that they ran out of the Red snapper special and the almond fruit basket for dessert. Otherwise had great flounder done so well and moist and veal as tender as veal has ever been.
Delicious food with a great wait staff, what a wonderful evening!
Great location for an upscale meal prior to Newberry Opera House show. You do need reservations. I had the Pecan Crusted Chicken and my husband had the Chicken Santimbalco (misspelled I am sure). Both were excellent and the vegetables that accompanied the meals were mashed potatoes, lima beans and carrots. Yum! I had the crab soup which was good, but luke warm and just not enough of it. I heard people order the Flounder, which is a specialty. Heard rave comments when received. The rolls were warm and crusty. Our Key Lime Oreo crust pie was also yummy. We would go again. The show was at 8 pm and we got there at 6:15 pm. Plenty of time to relax, eat and take the short stroll across the park for a show.
Great food! Specials pricier than menu items.
Everything was delicious, However the flounder is way overpriced.
As usual, the food and service was fantastic. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly.
I had made a reservation for 2 to celebrate my birthday. The wine I had selected was not in stock, the server held my utensils by the portion that I place in my mouth to set the table, no mention of salads being ala carte when offered with meal, and when my son asked for a candle in dessert for my birthday the server said not available but I can tell you about our dessert menu. So we ordered 2 pieces of pie. There was no acknowledgement of the special occasion. We were both sadly disappointed.
Service great. Food seasoned perfectly! Great place to take a date.
Overall, a fine experience.
Charming atmosphere and staff.
Outstanding experience!
First time visit, excellent steak and service!
The food was up to the Steven W standard that we have come to expect over the years. Our server was very friendly and courteous, but left water glasses unfilled, didn't offer to refill wine glasses, and seemed to rush us out. A good dinner could have been great with better service.
We love this place. Reminded us of Savannah. We will definitely be repeat customers.
We ate here before a show at the Newberry Opera House - our server made sure we made the show with no problem. The food was excellent - both my husband and I tried one of the specials of the evening (salmon and fried shrimp). Thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality. Service was excellent. We felt safe eating there - they took appropriate Covid precautions.
Love this place ! Steven W's is always our "go to" anytime we are in Newberry.
Service, ambiance, and food were amazing! Can't wait to go back.
We had a wonderful dinner- the food was delicious and Newberry is an amazing little town.
Always delicious food and great service. Best place in Newberry.
Quaint, historic setting with dining patron spacing. Veal piccata and apricot glazed flounder were delicious with vegetable sides. Service was excellent. Menu variety was appealing.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and restaurant. We are planning to go there again and we talk it up to others.
First time out with friends in weeks. Restaurant was well prepared for current circumstances. Limited but menu had varied selections. Staff were professional, friendly and attentive to our needs. Highly recommend and will certainly return.
High End restaurant. Food is excellent. Always spot on. Staff is friendly. Our go-to place in Newberry for special occasions.
We were in town for a concert at the Newberry Opera House and enjoyed a delicious meal.
The location is very convenient and the ambiance is nice. The service was very efficient and professional. Our server, Candy, was very knowledgeable and helpful with our meal selections. Our meal was very good and we shall return again.
Among the limited options in Newberry, Steven's is probably the closest to a dining experience. That's not to imply it's memorable. Service is friendly if not truly high standard, but certainly didn't detract from the meal. Wine list pretty average, but workable given the location. Menu [pricing is also moderate to high, especially compared to Columbia or Charleston, but it's really infuriating that specials are given with no pricing, and when asked, specials are $8-$10 higher than the most expensive menu items. Most of the food was under seasoned, and the temperatures and portions were fine. The plating on one dish was pretty nice, and the other pasta dish was just a pile of food. The dessert of the almond cup was the best dish of the night.
It was a chilly night when we ate there, and the front door has no screen or deflection at all, so the first two or three tables, where we were seated, got a blast of cold air every time the door opened. Uncomfortable at the least, and we were told there were no other tables at which we could have been seated.
It's the second time we've been to Steven's while attending a performance at the Opera House. They try hard and are very earnest, but overall it's generally unmemorable. Dinner for 3, even with one of the cheaper bottles of wine and a shared main course, was $140 including tip. Not a fortune, but not exactly a bargain either. Next time we would probably opt to grab a sandwich somewhere and then head to the Opera House. I know that it must be a challenge to provide real fine dining in Newberry, but for us, twice at Steven's is enough.
