Summer House Santa Monica
I had a reservation even so I had to be waited to seated. I thought the point of having a reservation is not wait for 2 people? I request booth seating and it was not honored. The server was super shy and didn’t come to check up on us, the restaurant was loud and couldn’t catch his name. The food was okay but not anything memorable or worth coming back for. I voiced my complaints with the manager and she was sympathetic and expressed some concern but was quick to offer a gift card for the inconveniences. I will think twice before coming here again.
Food was underwhelming and expensive. It took the waiters three tries to get my wife’s americano with steamed milk right 😮
Always look forward to the delicious food, but the service often disappoints. We had 1:30 reservations and did not get seated until 1:50. When asking about the status, the young host said " we will text you" which I knew, but he had told me that upon arrival 30 minutes earlier, just was not friendly.
Our appetizers were served without plates, our water was not filled, just disappointing.
My blueberry pancakes and lemon posset were delicious! Our waiter was very nice and listened to the various dietary restrictions at the table. My friend asked for a dairy free bread on her sandwich, and they put a hamburger looking bun on, which was a bit odd, is that the only non dairy bread they have? The atmosphere was very “California” as expected, which isn’t my favorite, but can see why that makes this restaurant special.
Fun night...very good food and service!
The service was impeccable, though most dishes were pretty pricey for what you get, even by Chicago standards. My squash soup was delicious-served with a dollop of lemon yogurt. I wasn’t sure about that addition, but it really worked!
My pasta wasn’t drained well, so I was left with goop at the bottom of the bowl.
The ice cream sandwich for dessert was huge and a relative bargain. Certainly big enough to share.
Great chicken Cobb salad. Great service.
Always a great place to grab some dinner
Lunch menu was not terribly interesting and food was mediocre, at best.
The food and service were great!!!
This is a beautiful restaurant with nice large tables for a group. The food always feels overpriced for the taste and portions but the atmosphere makes up for it. The cookies are beautiful but lacking in flavor.
Perfect place to escape the cold Chicago winter!
Our server was AMAZING!! Weather was horrible so we were running late for our reservation and had a show to catch down the street. He was overly accommodating and made every effort to take our orders quickly so we can make the show...which we did thanks to him! And enjoyed a delicious meal on top of it. The hostess was also extremely friendly and quickly got a table for us despite being over a half hour late. Overall great experience!
We go here every year for my husband’s birthday. The staff is kind and thoughtful, and the atmosphere is perfect for a sweet occasion.
Great service as always. Love this for lunchtimes and brunch! Bit sad they have taken poke bowl off menu for weekends only! But otherwise always a local fave
We had a reservation on a weeknight at a relatively late hour, and were seated promptly. The room is always a delight to entire because it is so light and airy, as you would expect based on the name of the restaurant.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. The menu is moderately changed, although we don't go often enough to know how often. At least they keep the Brussels sprouts, which set the tone years ago for how they are now prepared everywhere else. They're great.
Like almost all the other restaurants to where we have been lately, it seems the servers do a disappearing act at the end of the evening, and you have to find someone to get your bill and then to take your payment. It's annoying. However, considering that the food is tasty and priced within reason, and the atmosphere is bright and lively, and the bulk of the service is good , it won't keep us from coming back.
The desserts in the little bake shop when you walk in are as good as anything on the menu!
My son’s bday!
$18 for a Cobb salad???? Give me a break. Service is horrendous. Took 25 minutes after asking for our bill to even get the waiters attention. Never going back
We’d a employee meeting. Great ambiance, good food.
We loved the Zinfandel Taft. Salmon on spinach was amazing.
Interesting menu selections and good use of local-sourced food when possible.
Fantastic service! Food is ok. A awesome kid meal and I mean awesome value with a phenomenal baked good big enough for the family to share. Beautiful interior
Why is there a $2.00 surcharge for non mixed or drinks served with ice or straight up? It’s truly tacky. Just charge $2.00 more for the drink. No one would care and it would not allow bad mouthing the restaurant.
Great server! Was so friendly and helpful
Excellent lunch with nice choices including butternut squash soup and a great guac and salsa plate. Good burger, turkey club and salad options with fresh, unique ingredients. Great roasted brussel sprouts!
Rather ordinary quality of basic breakfast foods for the money. Need to up their game for bacon (rubbery) and eggs (bland) and create more tasty, pliable toast (stolid, lacks chewiness.)
