Hadn't been to this DC institution in quite some time...with all the new restaurants. Was very much looking forward to it. We were disappointed in the food. My pancakes were completely burnt on the bottoms and my friend send his shrimp and grits back twice because they were not warm at all...room temperature. The atmosphere was wonderful of course but we were disappointed in the food.
We have been to Tabard Inn a few times over the past couple of years. Although the food was fine and our server was very good, the noise level was beyond painful. There were only 2 of us at a table for 2 and we could not hear each other. The first room we were shown to was horribly loud and the second was just as bad. We mentioned this to the server and she said she knew. I think the management has an obligation to ask very noisy groups to tone it down out of respect for and consideration of other diners. We ate and got out as fast as possible and won’t be going back.
The French 75 and the scrambled eggs with cream cheese and chives make the Tabard brunch sublime. (And the doughnuts with whipped cream are ABSOLUTELY worth it.)
I am a regular at the Tabard, but unfortunately, this was not the best experience. I added chicken to my salad, which was dry and tough. I won't do that again.
Service was meh.
We were in DC for a night to celebrate my birthday and decided to try the Tabard Inn based on other reviews. We couldn’t be more pleased with our choice! From the welcoming host, the cozy atmosphere, the superb service, to the delicious food, there was not a single misstep. We felt every aspect of our dining experience was the result of care and thought. It was one of the more perfect dinners I’ve had in my life. If they have the duck confit cassoulet do yourself a favor and order it.
Thank you to the staff and kitchen at the Tabard Inn - we will be back!
Shrimp and grits was over cooked. Friendly service and a lovely setting.
We had breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was an above average meal in a pleasant environment in a Victorian hotel.
What a cool place, this is a unique place. It has so many cool nooks and crannies. Food is delicious and drinks are incredible. Defiantly worth the trip out here
My favorite place! Great patio, great food, great service!
As always, the food and service was amazing.
Tried the restaurant for weekend brunch based on reviews— not sure I agree with the recommendations. Ambience was pleasant enough in a lovely old inn. Food was average and service was good. Their Bloody Mary was very spicy, had to send it back (and I love spicy), but the server graciously had it re-made. Not sure if I would return again as I think there are other better places for brunch.
We’ve been fans of the Tabard for decades. Having said that, this birthday brunch was disappointing. The ambiance is always A+. The charm of the decor and wood paneling put us in the mind of a British or European Inn. It’s one of the most romantic spots for a drink. However, at over $180 for four for brunch, it did not lice up to its own standards. Our birthday honoree adores oysters; though they are on the menu, they didn’t have them ‘because they weren’t delivered today!’ Disappointment #1. The mini corn muffins that preceded our meal tasted like they had been dipped in sugar—not a good ‘appetite teaser.’ The service was the worst we’ve ever had. It seemed as though the waiters were very busy and too few. We had to ask for a few things three times. I had the shrimp & grits, which was more like grit soup and it was served lukewarm. Some of the individual tastes were good, like the shrimp and ham, but the bed of grits was substandard. The haddock and duck hash seemed good. The scrambled eggs with cream cheese & chives was acceptable but bland, as were the chicken sausage. As it was a birthday, I noted that in the reservation, repeated it when I had to call to confirm the reservation, and mentioned it to the hostess who said it was clearly in our record as a ‘gluten free birthday.’ Seeing our waiter upon returning from the restroom, I reminded him about our request. His reply was, ‘we don’t have any gluten free desserts, I don’t think we can do that.’ To which I said, ‘seriously, what about sorbet.’ He eventually brought it and it was a hit.’ We’ll continue to keep the faith about the Tabard, which is a special space. I encourage you to try it. If anyone from the Tabard is reading this, today’s grade was a D....
Wonderful ambiance and delicious brunch! We had a party of 8 and were seated upstairs in a private dining area. Very attentive service! Highly recommend!
Food was terrible! How did any dish on this menu warrant a Michelin Star in 2018? Doubt it... Tabard kitchen needs a revamp...
Excellent meal made with good quality ingredients served by knowledgeable and friendly servers
I missed the sweet bread they just to give at brunch!
The corn muffins and warm doughnuts with whipped cream were sublime. I love this place
Superb. Relaxed ambiance outdoors. Prompt courteous service. Lovely endive salad. Scallops cooked to perfection. Perfect Sancerre. A memorable dinner and evening.
After several visits, we still find new entree adventures and great service. The staff is always hospitable and genuinely interested in our questions. We'll be back!
Wonderful small DC hotel with an extraordinary restaurant. I had the Halibut with a miso glaze over roasted vegetables!!!
Our dishes were very good but not exceptional, which is what I would expect for the price. Service was excellent, and ambiance on the patio was lovely.
What is there not to like about this historic venue? I love the black bean burger, the fries and salad were divine and so was the homemade bread. Staff was so delightful you feel like this is way more than a job for them.
Lovely ambiance. We were sorry that they ran out of the daily fish. But enjoyed our meals. Website said no valet parking in Sunday so we found a garage a block or so away. Surprised to see valet when we arrived. Mentioned this to manager who said would correct. We’ll be back.
Its been a few years since I've been there. I realize how much I love the food, the food portion sizes that are not supersized, the ambiance, the quietude, the beautiful courtyard, the relaxing lounge, the jazz, the most attentive and hospitable canine host, Dante. A wonderful respite from the hubbub that Washington has come to be. As wild meat lover, The Wild Boar Pappardelle was perfect. Thank you!
Amazing. We ate brunch on the patio and it was beautiful. The food exceeded all expectations. Will be be back very soon.
Food was good with generous portions. Service was attentive. Biggest negative was the crowded dining room and loudness. The tables were too close together and the servers kept bumping into me.
We had a small group of four and went for brunch. We were seated on the patio, which was covered and comfortable. The service was strong, and we never went without refreshed drinks. The food was good overall, but nothing mind blowing. Just solid. We enjoyed our brunch and will come back. Especially to hang with Dante the bulldog.
Food was a little Asian Fusion, good but really preferred more traditional fare. I’ll be back because it is still one of my favorite places in DC
I sat on the patio. They had no mosquito repellent or candles to ward off these bugs. I now have over 10 bites on my ankles. Everything else was great.
Wait staff were pleasant and the food tasty. We opted to eat in the courtyard as the noise inside was a bit loud.
Good food. The patio was lovely on a nice afternoon.
Always a solid choice for good food and ambiance. Great for small groups and special occasions.
Loved the ambiance! The waiting area was cool and dark, which I liked - I bet it's lovely with a fire in the fireplace in the winter. We actually ate on the (covered) patio - also lovely. Lots of fun rooms to explore - I bet it's a great place to stay, too! The food was great, with some unusual choices (duck hash), and even the standards like eggs benedict were delicious and the potatoes were done almost exactly the way I like (crispy). Don't miss getting the doughnuts! Even though they are served first, rather than as dessert, it's almost better because you know you won't have to same room for them!
Have wanted to do the Tabard patio for ages and we were pretty disappointed. Walking through the inn to the patio the inn looks worn dark and tired. The patio was nothing special - plants here and there and some nice garden sculpture but not the atmosphere we expected at all based on the great reviews. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was very average. We probably will find another spot when guests come to town in the warm weather - sorry Tabard Inn.
A delightful place to bring your granddaughter for her birthday!!
Went here for brunch with my fiancé & the food was delicious service was great & ambiance was outstanding. Would definitely recommend & will go again!
Always a pleasure dining at the Tabard Inn - especially outdoors on a nice day.
I love the Tabard Inn, even when it changes, it always feels the same comfortable, wonderful place.
