This is a really interesting restaurant. The wood paneling and whimsical decor seem like you’ve stepped through the looking glass into a set from The Batman movies. Our dinner was superb including a stupendous 3- dip and chips selection, haddock served over a luscious broccoli risotto, and gorgeous duck breast with charred green onions. Good dinner service and a highly courteous staff. Would highly recommend!!
Intimate, old world charm. A lovely hideaway from the hustle and bustle.
The food was very good, but uneven and somewhat disappointing since it used to be (pre-pandemic) outstanding. The oxtail ravioli was excellent but the strawberry arugula salad had little flavor and the apple cranberry crisp was dried out. Since we were the only ones indoors, it was quiet and easy to converse (the indoor dining room had been very noisy in the past) and service was very attentive.
Charming settling with good brunch menu. Would recommend!
The BEST donuts in the city. I wanted everything on the menu. I loved my chicken and churro waffles. The patio ambiance was perfect on a nice summer day!
Yummy food, perfect service.
Nice courtyard location for a Sunday brunch. Standard brunch fare but the preparation was very good.
It had been years since I'd had a meal at the Tabard Inn. With greater confidence in dining out post-vaccinations, my girlfriends and I decided to renew our brunch get togethers. I remembered that the Tabard Inn had a nice patio and decided to reserve space. A heads up - the tables on the patio are first come, first taken. Luckily, two of us got there a little early and were able to snag a patio table. The ambiance is great with patio tabes and umbrellas, lots of greenery and a feeling that you are not in a busy city. The service was wonderful - right from the gentleman who welcomed us to the server, who was helpful in determining our choices. The food was tasty and the helpings large. Unlike my brunch companions, I ate all of my meal (shrimp and grits) and was more than satiated. Good coffee too. We will certainly be returning.
Excellent service. The food ranged from excellent (the burrata and the shrimp appetizers and the chicken and halibut main courses) to the modest (ceasar salad, ravioli with oxtail). Decent and well-priced wine list. Our table was in a small room with a very noisy large table of people. Fortunately, they left after 30 minutes.
We loved every dish we ordered. Cocktails were good as well.
The new menu has a lot of breakfast/brunch items as well as lunch specials. We had a very enjoyable meal.
Despite the pandemic, they are still offering an premium dining experience, which is what I wanted for my daughter's graduation. I loved this historic place, its excellent cocktails, and its amazing food.
Another round of a beautiful setting, great food, and excellent service.
We enjoyed everything about the experience at Tabard.
A very warm night!
The service was pleasant , and a bit slow.
Very accomodating though.
We celebrated a birthday with brunch, and everything was fantastic. The service was wonderful, the food delicious, and the ambiance lovely. It was very hot outside, so I wouldn't sit on the patio on a day like that again, but it was very beautiful. I'd like to say a special thank you to the server who helped get a cold drink to go to a person in our party who wasn't feeling well from the heat. Above and beyond and very much appreciated!
Returning to DC after many years away, the Tabard Inn was an obvious choice for a Sunday brunch with old friends.
My meal was excellent however, my husband was just OK. Definitely not worth the money. That said, you can’t beat the atmosphere and our drink with outstanding!
The patio at this place is the actual best. Great when it’s hot out and you’re looking for a covered patio. Amazing food, drinks and service. We were seated right away and the waiter had great suggestions. The duck salad was perfect for the hot day.
Nice menu and all were satisfied b
We enjoyed the charm of the Tabard inn for our overnight stay and meals (dinner and breakfast). The staff was very attentive and caring; the food was delightful; our room was charming and appropriately ecclectic; we enjoyed our end-of-day whiskey in the lounge. The location is excellent and quiet. There were a few exuberant guests singing (joyfully and on-key, perhaps a possibility of the Tabard alone!) in a neighboring room until about midnight, but perhaps that is part of the charm. We'll be back.
We booked a table for 6 during lunchtime to celebrate my wedding. I called a week in advance to ask for a private room or a patio. They said the patio was first come first serve but they would accommodate me if it becomes available but they can reserve a private dining area. What I didn't expect is that they wanted to seat me in the middle of the restaurant as I was wearing my wedding dress. When we pushed back they accommodated us in one a private dining area in the upper level. That's fine but why have us complain to get it?
Moreover, we notified the restaurant that we had a service animal for a person visiting from out of town. When we arrived, the employee asked to see a supporting document and we provided it immediately in order to seat everyone promptly. But this is something that you should know, according to the ADA, employees at a business "are not allowed to request any documentation" for a service dog. The American Disability Act (ADA) prohibits both public and private businesses from discriminating against people with disabilities."--- Please educate your staff. I will never recommend this restaurant again to anyone I know and I will not be returning.
Delicious in every sense
Great historic location, not great service, and overly priced low quality wine and very limited selection.
Our first course was AMAZING! Unfortunately our second course was underseasoned. HOWEVER after learning of the issue, the manager immediately came over to offer his apologies and sent us home with a free dessert so our last taste of Tabard was a pleasant one. I would DEFINITELY go again based on the service and everyone has an off night. : )
I really like what you’ve done outside on the patio. The wooden dividers work and look great. Always a treat to dine with you.
Enjoyed a very low key meal with a friend that i had not seen in a while. Was great to connect over a small but adequate menu. This restaurant was a different vibe that i would go back fir a quick bite on a casual day (if in the area).
Lovely brunch on the patio - thanks! Will be back :)
Fantastic service! The donut was particularly delicious.
We have been to the Tabard Inn many times and have come to expect great service and great food in a unique and pleasant environment, and this time did not disappoint. Despite the challenges of Covid, the staff was attentive and the food was excellent!
Excellent! I stated at the hotel also. It was so nice having a top rated restaurant downstairs. Corned beef hash & eggs Benedict are clutch!
Great food, very nice ambience.
A bit expensive.
The food is good, but It has lost the refinement It used to have.
Our server, GIgi, was excellent!
And great bloody Mary’s!
Family in town
This is a quaint place with a lot of history. The service was great and the food was very good. Well worth checking out.
Lovely historic elegance. Only issue is that they wanted to seat us on the outdoor patio on a very chilly, rainy day and when we declined, they seated us at a giant table. Food was delicious.
my caesar salad was so "deconstructed" I had to do the majority of the work to even attempt to complete preparation. The romaine salad head was halved and that was it. There was no room on the plate to cut it up w/o scattering the other components off the plate. Too few anchovies, too. No notice on website of suspension of valet parking...a huge problem in this area.
We had a lovely brunch on the patio. We were seated within 5-7 minutes of arrival on a busy Sunday. Our server was prompt and courteous. We loved the special drinks on the menu, especially the Gin Fizz. The sugar donuts were a delicious treat, and our entrees came out on time and piping hot. We never felt rushed and were very glad to have chosen the Tabard. One small thing -- there used to be information available about the Tabard's history (in the menu, maybe?). We missed that this time with our out-of-town guests.
One of our favorite spots in DC. The food, service and ambiance are always wonderful. The back patio us now covered, making outdoor dining available most of the year.
