spit-roasted sea bream, red cabbage salad, Cypriot tahini sauce, fried colocasi
spit-roasted duck breast and leg rubbed with pastourmá spices, yogurt sauce, Pontian satz bread, pomegranate reduction, pickled chard, fries
Lamb Shank was cold, and not served as pictured on website... Not worth the money! Service was terrible and mandatory 22% tip added to check regardless of party size.
Not to clean. Glassware and Silverware stained.
Restrooms not clean. Don’t waste your time, much better Greek Restaurants in Chicagoland.
I greatly appreciate ensuring that your service staff is well compensated and taken care of. However, since the institution of the auto-gratuity, service here has really gone downhill. There is no attempt to time the food so that those at the table can dine together, the whole point of going out to dinner. I had been served everything I ordered, but waited 15 minutes for my husband's entree to arrive. He had to remind the servers that he had ordered a starter, which came AFTER his entree, and very long after my food had arrived. Taxim has been our go-to date place in the neighborhood for years. However, if this complete disregard for timing food continues, we'll probably have to find a new go-to. We love your place, so please get this service thing straightened out.
Food was delicious as always, BUT on the roof the noise level was oppressive and unbearable. I have dined on the roof several times, and it seems to me they have put a clear plexiglass covering. Didn't it used to be just open-air?
Regardless, we arrived at about 6:45 and the music was way too loud. Then more people came and the conversation was at a roar-level. To have a conversation with a companion you had to lean close to each other across the table and yell at each other. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I wanted to go to a quieter bar afterward so my friend and I could have the conversation we could not share in the din of Taxim.
I might go back in the winter do dine inside, but I will never endure that noise on the roof again. You want an intimate dinner with conversation? Go somewhere else. You won't find it on the Taxim roof.
Limited entree choices and felt overpriced for the environment. The street outside is packed with drunk people and doesn’t feel safe. Your stopped as you enter restaurant by security guard who makes you wait on sidewalk while he confirms you have a reservation. And they require minimum 25% tip which is added automatically. It’s OK place but won’t be going back
This restaurant was lovely! Great selection of Greek wines, incredible small plates, and a cozy rooftop atmosphere. I’d definitely dine here again :)
Excellent food as always, hot and flavorful and fresh. Great rooftop vibes. But the service was pretty much absent. Bottle of wine took 20 min to arrive, and we never got a dish we ordered. Waiter maybe came by once. Too bad.
This was our third visit to Taxim, and the first time we dined inside. Eating on the rooftop transports you to another place, which doesn't quite happen in the dining room. The food, as always, was excellent. We had two types of dolmades, one shrimp and one lamb - both delicious. You cannot go wrong with lamp chops or the lamb shank. Our server was great and spot on with a wine recommendation. All three men had different desserts, chocolate halva, loukoumades (my favorite) and an ice cream. I just sipped my ouzo and watched them finish every bit. We'll be back, but on the roof.
Cute little rooftop, food was just OK for the price.
Food/experience was not what we expected. Overall, over priced food.
Always one of my favorite spots in Chicago
Food was excellent, it was our first time trying this place out and everything we ordered was delicious.
Loved it. Brought foodies from New Orleans. They had never been in a Greek restaurant that didn’t have flaming cheese. Food was terrific. Wine was just right. Decor makes the experience feel special not kitschy.
We got up and left didn’t order anything. The place seems scammy, like a tourist trap. Wildly overpriced. So can’t say much about the food bc we didn’t stay to order; wine was very overpriced (no description of any of them, you’re just supposed to pick a random, expensive Greek wine off of a menu), service was nonexistent and catty when we walked in with a reservation, they add an additional 25% COVID fee to the bill, and the noise level was extreme, uncomfortable. Nice ambiance. Wouldn’t go back.
Not great for kids, terrible service, but food is excellent so we keep returning
Me and my boyfriend went here for our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, and the service was lovely. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or even a fun date!
Food was good but the place was loud and the rooftop was cold
All dishes were good!
We called and confirmed reservations and secured an outdoor table. When we arrived the hostess gave our table away because another party got there before us. We were a few minutes late because you couldn’t see the restaurant due to construction in the area we walked right past it. We ended up sitting inside. The waitress basically takes your order and then you really don’t see her again after that. Upon leaving the hostess doesn’t even say thank you for coming - Found that strange as we are only just able to get out and enjoy restaurants again - We really thought it would have been a more upbeat friendly vibe. The food was really good, but the hostess set the tone and that may be enough of a reason to not go back again as we have quite a few Greek restaurants in the area.
Really delicious food and great rooftop. Music was a little loud (I'm 26 and still thought this) and the 25% COVID charge policy should be listed on the menu or communicated more transparently. Was happy to pay it and understand the circumstances, but a discrete message on the menu probably would have reduced sticker shock.
it was so fire bruh, busy as hell tho so the kitchen was a little off beat but the food was incredible and the staff was fun.
Food was mediocre service was extremely slow noise level prevented meaningful conversation "Greek chicken" was tasteless and not crispy
Food was outstanding! Very authentic and good portions for small plates. Server was also helpful and gave amazing recommendations. Hostess was pretty rude and didn’t even walk us to our table. Handed us the menus and told us to go up the stairs.
Wonderful date—-great food, lively and romantic environment on the rooftop, delicious shareable plates and friendly staff. Thank you!
My wife and I came in for an anniversary dinner. Did not disappoint. We did 5x plates, shared all. Great tasting food!
Food was an exceptional standout. We’ve eaten at many top restaurants around the world and Taxim is a stunner for sure. Octopus, mussels, shrimp, lamb shoulder were all packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. Prices are very reasonable given the high quality. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Mediterranean style.
Overall, the food was good. The ototpus probably one of the best I've had.
However, the service was mediocre, couldn't hear or understand our server because it was so loud and was soft spoken.
I can't speak to the food, since my wife and I decided we needed to leave before we got a chance to order. I had made a reservation, but we were treated as a frustrating inconvenience by everyone who spoke to us from the time we walked in to the time we sat down. I'm in the hospitality industry, I know we have bad days, but rudeness is a major turn-off. Better luck to others who decide to dine here.
Half chicken was tender, flavorful, and juicy.
Sea bass was alright, a little bland/underseasoned. They did de-bone it for us which was nice.
Grilled octopus was a little dry; I've had better elsewhere.
Hummus and grilled eggplant spreads were ordinary. Just nothing special about the flavor or presentation.
Houllumi saganaki was good.
Okra another good plate.
All in all I would go back and try another round of small plates.
This is a modern northern Greece menu. If you are looking for traditional fare, go to Greektown.
Rooftop seating had great ambiance.
We split several small plates and an entree, everything was excellent!
CAN BE LOUD BUT THE FOOD ALWAYS IS GOOD - THE FISH IS FRESH, VEGGIES - TURLU IS AMAZING AND DONT FORGET DESSERT
Loud and food was not very good plus over priced. Service wasn’t bad and the place was super loud. Definitely wouldn’t go back
The food tasted good, but the portions were small. The presentation was underwhelming. The ambiance is loud and somewhat cramped in the dining room. Not a great place to converse with your dinner party, but the rooftop may be different.
The service was impeccable, the staff very friendly, the food.... no words. It was all delicious and authentic. The noise level was quite high though on the patio. If they could sort that out, this would be my absolutely favorite place to eat in Chicago!
Food was outstanding! Would describe as "very evolved greek". Seated upstairs in "outside" (but very covered) deck area with heaters. Incredible meal and highly recommend.
Food was delicious, especially the lamb chops and octopus! We tried the sea bass and duck items too which were good. Service was great and very attentive to our needs. Overall would recommend!
This place gets raves in fact when we were on the sidewalk walking in, some woman passes by and says. That place is good.
Service was excellent, really friendly waitress. Food was awesome. We tried about five different things. All good. Pastry was crazy good. Recommend big time.
Beautiful atmosphere, efficient service, excellent food
Great Mediterranean food. Extensive wine list. Great for vegetarians
I brought friends here for the first time and they loved everything! My menu favorites are the grilled octopus and the chicken entree. The service and ambiance were excellent. Highly recommend TAXIM!
