The Blue Boar
Prompt service without being rushed, menu was varied and covered all tastes, well presented and most enjoyable, would go again
Food was really delayed - 1 hr between starter and main......
We had to go and get our own dessert menus as they kept forgetting - not great but food was good overall
Birthday lunch for my husband and our friend. First time dining here and we were very impressed. Will certainly be returning.
Brilliant service had the taster menu it was superb and we will definitely be back. John was really helpful changing our table when you land changed twice!
The food and atmosphere were good but, for the price we paid, the food could have been hotter and the service slicker.
Varied menu with plenty of choice for everyone. Comfortable surroundings and pleasant staff. Not too far from home ample parking.
Excellent service and food. I will come again with my friends and family. I have also recommend to others family members and friends.
A brilliant place with excellent service and food. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone interested in visiting for a meal out.
We had a lovely evening. 4 stars for food and overall rating given because 1/4 of my steak was pink - medium and I asked for it to be cooked well done. Most of the meat was fine. But given that I didn’t want to eat 1/4 of it and raised it with manager- it would have appropriate for the restaurant to reduce the price of the steak by 25% but unfortunately this was not reflected on our bill.
Overall a good experience, very busy which unfortunately meant service was a bit on the slow side.
Very pleasant staff
I wasn’t very impressed with the blue boar and found the service extremely slow and not very attentive , my starter was bland and my burger for main was extremely dry and the cheese had gone hard it had obviously been sitting there a long time .
I would recommend to a friend but I would not recommend the Bream fish meal I had - there was not enough on the plate for a main course.
We enjoyed our visit to the restaurant and the food was outstanding.
The venue was lovely and we enjoyed the afternoon very much
We will tell our friends and recoomend it to others and we will be returning
Thank you for a lovely afternoon
Starters not hot enough. Steak was very chewy the Christmas dinner parsnip like rock they forgot stuffing and pig in blanket. Sweet microwaved xnas pudding asked for ice cream was given brandy sauce I said I wanted ice cream and the waitress tried to get me to take the brandy sauce. My brothers sweet had no biscuit at the bottom. For the price they charge it was terrible I'll stick with a carvery in future at least you get a good dinner for the price
I was deeply disappointed especially as it was our anniversary and hoping to enjoy the occasion, the food was average, ribs were ordered and flavour was flat other than a couple which had the flavour of the BBQ sauce rec, we had the bill reviewed and came away very unsatisfied
Lovely food good portions
Gorgeous food, lovely staff and good prices. Will be returning again soon.
Went with friends to celebrate a birthday. Lovely Sunday roast. generous portions. Very good value. Yummy desserts. Very popular and got rather noisy as the place filled up. Good time had by all.
I didn’t enjoy the main meal, it was nothing like it was the first time I had it a few months earlier.
My dessert was very poor over heated in the microwave i couldn’t even taste the treacle and the custard was dry and stuck to the plate, the other dessert was freezing cold in the middle and warm on the outside.
Definitely over priced.
However the environment is lovely and the waiting staff were great.
Went on a Friday for dinner and the 2-4-1 cocktails. However we were disappointed that the cocktails on the offer were so limited and none anyone would drink as they were all rum and tequila based. No vodka ones for instance. It didn’t say this on the advert when we booked it. We sat down nice and quickly but sadly the food took forever, it tasted great once we got it but was very slow service. Slow getting drinks and slow getting the food! Disappointed as we like to support local businesses. Hopefully it was a one off. But I do think the 2-4-1 cocktails advert needs to be clearer on what they are offering
This was a disappointing visit. We especially selected the restaurant because of their vegan menu. However, when we arrived we were told they were no longer doing this.
Had roast beef melted in mouth vegetables cooked to a t .and Yorkshire puds bang on as well roast spuds
Waitress was very good and attentive and knowledgeable ("Kimberly")
Seemed very busy, which is normal, but waitress seemed extremely busy. Food portions seemed smaller than before, but it was very well prepared and presented.
The food was good but the service wasn’t the best, even though there wasn’t that many people seated! For a Friday evening I was really shocked. The starter and mains was good, we asked for desert menu but didn’t receive it or have any other contact with the waitresses until we eventually just asked for the bill. It was a real shame as I have eaten in the blue boar a few times but the service was never like this before. There was a DJ in the bar area, so we ordered a couple of cocktails which took ages and then promptly was knocked by someone jumping about behind me and spilt it!!! Won’t be returning anytime soon.
Lovely Sunday lunch well presented and more than enough food would come again
Lovely impromptu lunch, a couple of birthday celebrations going on so there were a few rounds of happy birthday to you going on.
This is our second time to the restaurant and it didn't disappoint it was a Monday so was quiet but we both liked that. Staff were attentive but left you alone if you didn't want to be disturbed. We will definitely be going back.
Apart from parking which was a nightmare, we enjoyed the whole experience at The Blue Boar. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a live singer in the bar and the music drifted through to the dining area which was nice.
In the past we have enjoyed some lovely meals at the Blue Boar but unfortunately, this occasion was a huge disappointment and left us feeling like the poor relations. We had purchased a Groupon (2 courses for 4 people plus a glass of peach belini or wine) and after the event we wondered whether the Groupon was the reason things had been so poor. Our drinks order was taken almost immediately but no drinks arrived for 15 minutes and we had to ask whether there was a problem. During this period we watched two separate couples arrive for afternoon tea and their teapots etc arrived almost immediately. In terms of our starters everything was fine. However, we really should have sent one of our main courses back to the kitchen. It was a simple meal of sausages, mash, onions and gravy - and the problem was as follows: The meal was served in a very small bowl (the circumference of a tea saucer) with a very wide rim. A tiny portion of mash was at the bottom of the bowl, 3 small, microwaved sausages (one was too hard to be cut) sat on top of that and then a small helping of burnt onions was on top of that with so much gravy that the mash had turned to liquid. There were no peas - these had to be requested again and an enormous portion arrived which would had filled the dinner 'bowl' on their own. We won't hurry back!
Our reservation was quite early, but we still waited a long time to be served. During our meal, we ordered another drink, but this was forgotten about by the staff. Eventually, we did get our drink, but they had to be prompted. As for value for money, we all thought it was very expensive, for instance, 3x scallops were £14.95
Will not return
Excellent bar and restaurant with great service even when they had a power cut
My wife and I have eaten at the Blue Boar on many previous occasions and have always been very satisfied; we even celebrated our 25th and 30th wedding anniversaries at this restaurant; however, on this occasion the food can only be described as very poor. Having ordered our main course, no starters, it arrived within three or four minutes. We think it was pre-cooked, the chips were overdone and not many of them, of more concern was the fish, it was very dry with little taste. We would not be critical of any other aspect of the venue or the staff; however, we were in and out in less than an hour and both felt very disappointed the food in one of our favourite restaurants had deteriorated to such an extent that we are unlikely to visit again anytime soon.
Having been to this venue many times always good i had a very sad experience all round on this visit without going into detail let me say after complaining the next day the management refunded the cost of 4 main meals I would not go back again
Very noisy. Apparent Asian food was poor and not 'Asian". The meal came quickly but it took 45 minutes to pay the bill. Most of staff OK but not all.
We always have a good meal in the Blue Boar & they look after my partner who is Coeliac so requires Gluten Free options.
Top quality food at reasonable prices.
Very good food and attentive service. Lacked a little atmosphere on the night we dined (Thursday) as there were only two other tables dining that evening
This is our first visit to the Blue Boar for a couple of years and we were very impressed with the food, they have really upped their game, everything was presented beautifully and tasted delicious
Service was great. I would like a little more choice on the mains for some lighter options but looking forward to going back again very soon.
A good choice if you want somewhere that has a good atmosphere but not so noisy that you can’t have a conversation. The live music in the bar was perfect.
