The Colosseum Restaurant
This is a tale of two different experiences. The first 30 min and the rest of our meal. We had a reservation for 7:30pm. The hostess seemed surprised when we arrived and disappeared to find us a table even though I could see multiple tables empty. After 10 min we were seated in the far back corner of the restaurant near the bathrooms and an empty area that had a bunch of tables/chairs piled on top of each other. The bread guy and water guy came over quickly after we sat down. The bread was flat, looked like something had been placed on top of the basket. We got more bread later which wasn’t smooshed. No server ever came over. Being so far in the corner we couldn’t even flag someone down. At 8pm I went to the check in stand to ask for a waiter and couldn’t find anybody. Finally found the person who got us water and asked if they could help. After a few more minutes a waiter arrived. After that things got much better. The service was good. Got brought over a free app by the manager and offered free dessert. The food we ate was excellent and that included the dessert. Will try it again just because of how good the food was, hopefully the service will match it.
Went with a group to celebrate some birthdays. Our waiter was extremely helpful and answered all questions put to him about the menu. We were able to order and make adjustments depending upon the individuals diet requirements. Food was excellent. Will come back again.
I enjoyed the Chicken Alfredo. The alfredo sauce was one of the most flavorful I've had. The food was hot. I went with my husband and 2 sons. They all had the gnocchi. My husband never had it before but he did think it was a little bland for him. But other than that, the portion size was good. So overall, we had a very nice meal and a good time. We would go there again.
This is the best Italian restaurant in Southern NH.....
Made a reservation through opentable. No problems with getting a table. They were even great about us changing from a table to a booth. Stuffed Artichoke for an appetizer was absolutely delicious. Main courses were great, even the chocolate cake for dessert was delicious. Def going back again soon!!!
Good food and pleasant atmosphere. Waitress was nice enough but service was a bit off- slow taking order, minimal follow up to see if we needed anything, unsure of the brand of seasonal beer etc.
Everything was excelent...
This was our first visit in several years. Food was excellent and the owners took the time to come to our table and check if everything was fine.
Server was a great guy and treated us well.
Owners (Annibale and his sons) are very hard working people which was great to see!
We were celebrating my sister-in-laws birthday. Our waitress was very nice and served us very well. The food was superb. Thank you for a great time.
Dinner was delicious as always !!! Server was fabulous!!!
Disappointed. Stay away from the veal parmigiana. Shrimp and scallops was ok, just over priced. Service maintained quality and made our visit somehat acceptable.
We had a wonderful family dinner. I like that the specials get mixed up each week. The chicken and mushroom risotto was fabulous!
Renovations make it extremely pleasant. Food is excellent. Keep it up!
Everything was cold shrimp cocktail was tiny half the size you would get from a frozen ring at supermarket , chicken parm was paper thin and tasteless .. the meatballs , stuffed shells , egg plant rolled up , prime rib,
buffalo chicken were all good but again all cold.. the tiny shrimp cocktail was a huge dissapointment
Our party of four had a 1 PM luncheon reservation as we wanted to avoid the lunch hour rush. We arrived at 12:50 and found only one table occupied. Not a great sign. We all had the $3 side salad with our entrees and it was average at best. Two members of our party ordered the veal parm, and while the piece of veal was generous, it was tough and difficult to cut. For us, this restaurant is a DNR (do not return).
We had a reservation for 6:00 on a Saturday. The restaurant wasn't full but it was busy. The hostesses seemed to be more interested in getting tables ready for future diners than in seating us. We finally sat down and then the experience changed. The server was attentive, the food was excellent and the rest of our evening went well. It was during the extreme heat wave and the room was quite comfortable. I would definitely go back and take all my friends.
Food was tasty and portions were generous. Service was good. Dining room area could use some sprucing up for better ambiance.
What a joke of a place. I made reservations for my family to have dinner here while we were traveling, got my confirmed reservation through Open Table, showed up for dinner and guess what? They were closed! I immediately called, and the person that answered the phone was the owners son who said, sorry we are closed for renovations, but thought we would be finished by now...I never received a call from them to cancel my reservation, just showed up to find it closed with an owner that could care less...at 6pm, with a hungry family aboard. 1. I have dined around the world and this is the first time anything like this happened to me and my family. 2. If you want to celebrate a special occasion Whatever you do, do not make a reservation because you will not know if they will honor it, so let me save you the trouble and cross this one off of your list 3. Just go down the street to Tuscan Kitchen where they want your business, and treat you like family 4. The owner should hire a professionally trained manager before the spoiled son drives all of the business down the street! The worst "dining experience" I have ever had.
Very accommodating for our large group! Food was great too!
Fantastic food and good prices. Service excellent.
The food was good but not worth the prices and waitress we had sucked. I had a captain n coke it was an $8 drink and it was empty before the dinner arrived she never once asked if I wanted anything else to drink. She was also never around for me to even ask for a drink!
Eggplant Parma was outstanding and it was served with freshly made gemelli pasta. Recommended appetizer of seafood stuffed mushrooms was also well received. Compl3ted the meal with a great cup of coffee with a slice of strawberry shortcake that did not disappoint. Waiter was wonderful with both recommendations and service. Very personable and represented the restaurant well. Enjoy making the trip to Salem for dinner at the Colosseum, always worth the drive. Highly recommend. Last visit I had Chicken Colosseum and it was also very good. Good value and great food.
Good Italian food...great service, especially Cam, our server...very attentive and accommodating. I would skip the wine menu and ask for the house..Domino cabernet if you like red wine...highly recommend.
Unusually busy night. Staff clearly wasn't used to it. 1 hour wait for table side ceasar salad???!!!! Didnt make sense. Disappointed this time around
Great authentic Italian meal! We had a party of 10 and all had a different piece off the menu. Every dish was superb. Best Italian outside the North end, no question.
Always a great meal here.
This is my favorite place I always take my Mom and other people to introduce them to this beautiful restauraunt. Always excellent food drinks and the people here make you feel special and at home.
Glad I made a reservation, the restaurant was very busy. Staff and food was amazing !!
Forgot how great the food and service is here - I’ll be back more frequently that I ever have! Total must
Hidden treasure! In a strip mall, you would likely drive by and not notice, but it is wonderful. Had Veal Saltimboca. Absolutely delish! Pomegranate Martini was probably one of the best I’ve ever had! Bread was terrific too! Go! You will enjoy!
Really great food for a really good price, the staff is really friendly and helpful, keep up the good work
I recently returned here after about ten years. Things weren't quite what I remembered, but otherwise, not unpleasant. The appetizers were decent, and the bread was good. Entrees were good, though my veal was a little burnt around the edge. Dessert and Wine were impeccable. Some of the pasta choices are in house made and are delicious.
Service and meal times were very quick and food was out soon after ordering. Our waitress was fantastic and super friendly and very honest.
One of the party members has an unusual allergy that's in nearly everything and the staff took it extremely serious which was a very welcomed relief.
Overall, it was a nice trip down memory lane, and ill probably be back now that I live closer.
Food was amazing server was great and friendly the host was a little bit rude and standoffish. But other than that everything was great we had a party of 20 and everyone ate to satisfaction we even got to meet the owner
Bday celebration w/the girls
Great food & great service. Will go back again. Plenty of room for our group of 8.
I went to the Colosseum for the first time this past Sunday (March 31) for brunch at 12:30pm. I was meeting a friend who lives in Haverhill, Massachusetts so it was not a far drive for her family. I however live in Everett, Massachusetts and it took me forty-five minute to get there. The highlight of our brunch was the endless mimosas, they were wonderful!! Second highlight was our waiter. He was a breath of fresh air – very friendly and accommodating. The appearance was from the outside of the restaurant was okay. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was pleasant with a lot of windows and spacious seating. We made a reservation so were seated upon arrival. Once seating, we were greeted promptly by our waiter and offered coffee, water or mimosas. There were slips on the table to fill in to order a handcrafted omelet (Make your own). Only one person in our party ordered one - the omelet was a little over cooked, but good. The rest of us (there were five of us total, two adults, two teens and one under twelve went directly to the buffet. The buffet tables were located in the back of the restaurant. The buffet was rather small, with typical breakfast fare, some Italian dishes and a small carving station and a small chocolate fountain. I will start with breakfast items. The scrambled eggs were average (nothing added to them and not seasoned well), the hash brown were limp and greasy, and the corn beef hash was too salty and inedible. The chicken parmesan tasted like it had been sitting in a heating tray for 12 hours –dry and overcooked. The stuffed shells were good but overcooked. The eggplant rollotini was good, although sauce was a little sweet. The dessert bar had strawberries, marshmallow, rice crispy treats to dip in the chocolate (fountain not working). There were no utensils to pick up the items with; they had to bring some over after I asked. They also has mini cannoli and mini eclairs. The eclairs looked old. The cannoli’s tasted good.
Ran out of coffee twice. One person at carving station for carving & making waffles. He kept stepping away ba king up a cramped area to begin with. Many of the items were depleted at 11am and no refills during our time there. Ordered an omlette that never came. Waitress couldn’t find change for $100. 00 for 20 minutes.
Food was good but strangely placed.
Won’t be going back.
Great service and menu options. We have been to the Coliseum restaurant a few times. Always is terrific
food was very good ceaser salad at table excellent....very consistent
Went here for the first time Saturday. The food and staff were excellent. Prompt courteous service and the food was out of this world. Definitely will be coming back for more. Wasn't sure how to answer the noise rating but it was not overly noisy.
