The Darling Oyster Bar
Really neat atmosphere! Beautifully decorated old building but still casual and fun! Great food—all with a Charleston twist
We were there on a Friday night with a later evening reservation. Our table was ready immediately. The staff was friendly and professional; our server was wonderful. The food was delicious! Fresh seafood! I can not recommend this place more.
Our server was amazing! Our food was excellent! I can’t complain about anything!! Overall everything was great!
Delicious food, and some of the friendliest, most helpful service we’ve ever experienced.
VERY CREATIVE MENU. Great location in the middle of historic Charleston
Loved the Tuna Belly appetizer, really nice. The Oyster Spaghetti was original and very good.
The mouse for dessert was a very big portion, but delicious.
Great Oyster choices. We enjoyed the small plates (shrimp and crabcakes) and some sides (collards and kale salad) with some wine. Eli did a great job.
Server was either new no charm. Highly doubtful will return as Charleston has too many really good restaurants & staff that are more engaged.
Food was delicious. Standout was an oyster pasta with pasta made in house. A scallop ceviche didn’t taste super fresh. The seafood’s texture was slightly sticky and the flavor too fishy. Our wonderful and friendly waiter took it away and off the bill, no problem. The rest of the meal was great. An oat salty chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich was perfect!
Night out in Charleston with family. Oysters and clams were outstanding and at a good price. Collard greens were the best I have ever had. Nice staff. Highly recommend.
Had such a delightful time. A delicious selection of oysters, very good shrimp. The menu is small, but the focus is the oyster with the selection changing. I’m sorry I don’t recall the waiters name as he was just the right amount of attentiveness without rushing me. I will be back
Fried food is overcooked and no flavor. Collards are okay and grits had NO flavor. Lobster and crab roll was decent as was chicken sandwich. Fries were very salty. I had always heard good things about this place and was disappointed. Atmosphere was beautiful and service was great.
Amazing! Great experience! Amazing food! My new favorite!
Good food nice atmosphere and fancy restaurant!!!!
We sat at the oyster bar at learned quite a bit from the oyster shuckers. The oysters were fresh and the fried clam strips were sensational!
Delicious an exceptional service.
Our first visit to The Darling Oyster Bar was for brunch. We were seated immediately. The brunch menu was not huge but had a nice, varied selection. Our waitress was wonderful! She went above and beyond: brought a bottle of bourbon for us to read the label, adding bread to our meal (it was not offered on the menu), and packed a to-go box with ice. The food and drinks were delicious. The decor was attractive and the noise-level was appropriate. We will most definitely return.
We had an awesome experience! I believe our server's name was Dave, and he was incredible. He was attentive and friendly; it almost felt like he was hosting us at his own house--just super casual, fun, and friendly. We were celebrating so we pulled out all the stops: oyster shooters, oysters, cocktails, entrees, and dessert. Everything was incredible and high quality without being pretentious. I highly recommend getting a round of oyster shooters for your table; it kicks things off in a fun and tasty way. We'll definitely be back.
We had friends visiting from out of town, there was a miscommunication about the cost of the oysters on the happy hour menu. Our guests insisted on picking up the check. Later in the evening we were discussing how much we loved our dinner and what a bargain the oysters were, only to realize that an error had occurred, unbeknownst to us. We called and the manager took care of this error in such a kind manor!! We were all very impressed, not only do we as locals love The Darling Oyster, so do our guest from TN. Thanks for handling this with A-1 customer service! Of course we will be back again soon!!!
Will be back!
We had a delicious dinner and our waiter Dylan was knowledgeable about the menu and so funny that he really helped to make it a memorable, great night.
The food was amazing and our waitress was wonderful! We celebrated our wedding anniversary and it was the best time. I will be back!
So delicious and such a friendly, accommodating staff! The price wasn't at all bad for the amount of tasty food we ordered. Highly recommend going!
Always a great experience!
My husband and I went on a rainy night. We were sat even though we were early for our reservation. Great waitress. We ate light just having a lobster/crab roll, oysters, tuna tataki and crab cakes. Flavors were very good, food was hot and service was very attentive. Will come again if in town!
Highly recommend!!! As a Charleston native, I have experience almost every seafood restaurant in the area. The Darling has the best seafood to offer. Wow... clam strips, raw oysters, baked oysters, hush puppies, fried shrimp, lobster crab roll... AMAZING. Highly recommend!
Everything from the time we sat down was wonderful. Food was fantastic and the service was great.
Outstanding spot. Im probably the pickiest person I know and exceeded expectations. Great find on a chilly evening—wait service was excellent, oysters excellent, shrimp & grits a bit too salty, excellent wine. Host staff maybe needs to tone the ‘tude down a bit...
The table next to us was extremely loud. The waitress helping that table was also screaming.
We had a great meal and a lovely waitress. We were coming in from out of town so we made a reservation. The restaurant was not very full. We were seated in an adjacent dark room. We asked to be sat in the main dining but were told that the only tables left were 6 tops and not available for our party of 3. So we sat in the dark room looking into the main area. The entire time we were there the remaking 6 tops were never sat. I say that so that you know to request the main room when making your reservation. The hostesses will not make concessions for you and it’s not as Darling in the dark room.
In-laws in town!
5 stars all around! Amazing Saturday oyster happy hour until 7 had us pleased from the beginning. Our server, Dan, was awesome. Drinks were great, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. Highly recommend and would go again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic night. Service was absolutely amazing. Will be back on my next trip to Charleston.
Good food, short menus, small portions, acceptable service.
Excellent seafood and service! Would recommend highly!!
Birthday celebration. Everything was great. Menu was a bit limited but understood the philosophy of doing a few things well.
came through during a road trip- great casual chic place. food and service excellent . no issues requesting a simple modification to dish to remove a meat.
The food here was top notch! Excellent oysters on the half shell, followed by crab cakes and shrimp and grits, then ended with key lime pie. All of the food was outstanding, decor was beautiful and service was attentive without being intrusive. Cannot recommend enough!
Incredible. I can’t wait to go back and get the tower. Amazing.
limited menu but good food. Loved the fried oysters and shrimp, and the hush puppies were quite good. Prompt and very attentive service.
We were from out of town visiting and I picked this place and it did not disappoint. The food was outstanding, our waitress was great and the wine I had, was actually very good. I consider myself a foodie and we really wanted some good seafood and this hit the spot. My only complaint was the ceviche seemed like a bit of an afterthought and we didn't care for that or the hush puppies but everything else was great. I highly recommend the Tuna, Fried Clams, Baked and Raw oysters.
