The Freemasons at Wiswell
I wasn’t at all impressed with the food, choice or service.
Excellent food and service. Difficult times but restrictions didn’t really feel too bad and would definitely return
We have been going to Freemasons since it’s opening and have always enjoyed and have had wonderful lunches & dinners here. More recently we have noticed small changes which have not in our opinion helped in our review but will not prevent us from returning.
Firstly service was very good as per usual but we did have 1staff member who served us on and off and was not wearing a mask whereas every other member was. No reason as far as we could see or were informed. She also never explained to anyone why she wasn’t wearing one. We did feel a bit uncomfortable when she came to the table . Second issue was what a lot of Fine Dining restaurants do when they become more well known. They have set menus at a competitive price which look good value.
However when you see the menu a big percentage of the dishes had supplements added. I can understand 1 supplemented starter & main course but there were 2or 3 starter & main course supplements leaving 2 or 3 under the set course price.
My feeling is if a good chef cannot find 4or 5 starters or mains without putting supplements onto the dishes they should rethink. Even the Halibut ( fish course) has a £4-95 supplement leaving the only other fish dish as Cod Tandoori. If your not a fan of Tandoori dishes you cannot have fish without a supplement. Supplements even on puddings of up to £5-95 and some on the main dishes were up to £11-95. So your set menu of £37 suddenly can be over £50 plus. Even the lemon meringue ( a favourite for most) was another £3-95 supplement. So if you go as a family you could easily build up 4-6 times 3 or 4 supplements which really do add up.
Otherwise food was very good and we had 2 supplemented dishes. But the key is we would have ordered differently if the supplements were not on.
A lovely quiet and trad Sunday lunch, in a wonderful setting.
Don’t bother going for Sunday lunch. We asked to swap tables as we were led to arguably the worst table upstairs despite the restaurant being empty. The waitress was rude and dismissive at first. Food just ok. Roast beef was very tough. Soup and desert were good though
Very good food thank you. Quite a different Sunday lunch. Service was good and the overall experience good. I certainly look forward to return after the lockdown.
Amazing lunch just right all round
This is the second time we've eaten at the Freemasons Arms and both times we've really enjoyed the quality of the food and the way in which the courses compliment each other. Highly recommend.
Great attentive service , excellent tasty food great ambiance.... a perfect night
Eating at the Freemasons Arms Wiswell is something I look forward to very much; the food is exquisite and the ambience warm and comfortable. The staff are attentive but not overbearing and clearly take delight in knowing that every morsel offered is packed with flavour and served at its best.
Found the Freemasons at Wiswell quite by chance online. Looking for a special anniversary lunch and we certainly found it. We opted for the Autumn Lunch menu. Absolutely fabulous and so beautifully presented. We are sad that this week it will mean temporary lockdown closure but we will certainly book to be back, with friends when it reopens.
It's always a pleasure to eat here. The food is of the highest quality and the service is impecable. The real ale was superb and the wine was fantastic. We love this place.
Excellent... highly recommend ... all of us enjoyed the food! Perfect family evening
Overall the quality of the food was excellent and the complimentary courses were an added bonus. I would have liked some elements of the meal to have been hotter when delivered to the table.
One of best gastropubs in the UK. Excellent food in a lovely country pub.
We love this place! It’s our favourite restaurant in the Ribble Valley. The food is unique and always tastes fantastic. Fantastic choice of wine also. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
The food was superb for all 4 of us BUT I always feel a meal out is about the whole experience and part of that experience is the service. From start to finish our service was shockingly poor. We were seated in what I can only describe as a side room and we were constantly either ignored or forgotten about. For all 4 of us this was our first visit and how poor the service was has left a sour taste in the mouth, even with such lovely food.
We have been a few times before, sat downstairs and had excellent service. This time We were sat upstairs at the far end of the restaurant, we felt a little forgotten about as it took a while for them to clear our dessert plates and offer coffee. We eventually got tired of waiting and left. The tables were plastic garden tables covered with table clothes. We thought this was poor quality for this standard of restaurant. Our meal was lovely, however the roast beef was a little tough.
Portions were a bit small for the price but very tasty
We had one small issue that was dealt with immediately so doesn’t count against them in any way.
The food was fantastic yet again.
Already looking forward to our return.
One word only ‘Fabulous’
Awesome and fantastic value for money for first class food
Good value for the lunch menu.Food well presented and tasty.Felt safe. Most of staff wore masks.
We had been recommended to try the 4-course taster menu, and everything was superb, whilst not overwhelming. Could not fault anything at all.
Outstanding value for money. Superb food and excellent service. Impossible to fault.
Fantastic meal, exceptional value on the seasonal lunch menu. Best meal we have had for a long time. 👍🏻
Lovely environment and lovely food will definitely visit again Lovely environment and lovely food will definitely visit again X
Every time I have been the food has never failed to impress us. Slight criticism it was a little cold upstairs.
A terrific eating experience. The food was amazing. Great value, has to be one of the best eating places in the country. All safety measures were in place, but everything seemed normal. We will certainly be returning.
We last came 12 months ago and stayed over which was amazing. This time just for a meal and we were definitely not disappointed. The food was beautiful.
Wonderful food, great value, love the warm, friendly atmosphere and ambience
Outstanding food and service.Brilliant value.Never disappointed.
Brilliant value for money on the £25
00 menu, full of flavour with a twist.
Great food and such attentive service. Great for gluten free bods.
A fabulous experience. Highly recommended.
We absolutely loved it! The Freemasons have it just right it was such a pleasurable and relaxed Saturday afternoon, with excellent service from Mr Smith’s competent staff, we really couldn’t recommend the Freemasons enough.
Exquisite plates of delicious food very reasonably priced.
In these times we need to enjoy the things we can do, dining out at the Freemasons is definitely top of the list for me
Top class with everything so we have booked again! well worth a visit.
amazing meal at the Freemasons
4 course taster menu absolutely delicious from start to finish couldn’t fault a thing or pick a favourite as it was all scrumptious
very enjoyable afternoon . food, service, ambience absolutely spot on
We booked for the food and wine club. The menu was completely different to that which was advertised, with no explanation as to why.
The food was good, but we probably would not have booked for the menu we actually got.
My son was our designated driver so we asked that he did not have the wine package, not only were we still charged for the wine but also for the 2 cokes that he had instead. This made it extremly poor value for money.
My husband and I enjoyed the concept, the semelier was great with enough information to be interesting, but he too was expecting the advertised menu and had paired the wines to that.
We would not recommend the food and wine evening if you need someone to drive, £55 plus drinks for a 3 course meal is expensive if you cant drink the wine.
Also dont book based on the published menu as you might not get that! but rather on the concept of a fixed menu with wine.
Overall, lovely venue, friendly staff, but we were dissapointed with this experience.
