The George Inn
A very enjoyable and much enjoyed evening made all the better by the excellent customer service, friendly and approachable staff, who looked after our table of 4 brilliantly. The staff, Ash, Lauren and Laurie the general manager were professional and attentive throughout. Great team work.
We arrived were shown to our table and drinks were ordered and arrived . Our order was taken. We then waited forty five minutes when a member of staff came over and asked if we were waiting for the bill. We were so disgusted we walked out.
Friendly staff , covid safe , loved the online booking
Food bland. Beef tasteless and vegetables overcooked. The vegetarian option was nut roast which simply replaced the beef and included gravy possibly containing beef? Ambiance lacking.
A very friendly welcome superb food would certainly recommend to friends.
We booked and attended during COVID times so please bear that in mind when reading.
The wifi didn't work and there was nothing to say that they knew of the problem, so spent ages (add did many others because mobile reception is poor in the area) trying to log in to order food and check-in with the COVID app before asking and finding it would just say 'connecting please wait'.
We ordered and then waited 90 minutes for the food. Shortly after ordering a burger we were told that they had run out of all burgers. A short time later another table had the same response but then were told that they had one left. The food was OK but certainly not up to the prices quoted. The soup was luke warm and in desperate need of seasoning. Mac and cheese tasted like it had come from a tin. It possibly hadn't but that was the impression. The pork curry tasted like pork in blitzed tinned tomatoes with some onion and pepper to give some spice. Again, needed seasoning. Just nothing special.
They did provide (unrequested) some free bread and dipping oils whilst we were waiting. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant.
The Deverill beer, a local ale was excellent and tasted well conditioned.
The staff were all very helpful and pleasant. The pub was scrupulously clean with good COVID compliance.
We would go back - to give them a second chance - these are difficult times - especially for the hospitality trade.
Despite all tables being pre-booked, they were woefully understaffed - resulting in diabolical service and an interminable wait for mediocre food from a limited menu. An entirely unacceptable performance from the George made for a really disappointing half term treat.
Usual lovely grub! A little noisier than usual, but it was half term and quite a few children.
If I could give the food no stars I would. My wife and I had haddock and chips, my wife’s had a long hair in hers, and mine had no taste and was mushy. My son had the cheese burger from the kids menu, it was raw in the middle, my daughter had Mac and cheese, white slop. Awful, god knows who the chef was but I think Stevie Wonder would give him or her a run for their money!!
Very good experience her, well situated with lots of parking. Pleasant staff and good Covid arrangements. The food was good and hot.
Really lovely pub with great food and service, good children’s menu too.
Friendly Staff , Great food & Lovely atmosphere !
Covid rules applied
The setting, décor and location are nice. The staff are friendly, and accommodating. However the food has gone downhill significantly from previous visits.
We ordered 3 starters - 2 soup, and 1 prawn cocktails. The starters were nice. We then ordered 3 roast mains (the main reason for visiting), and we were extremely disappointed. The roast potatoes were akin to frozen ones, and the vegetables weren't cooked - a 2nd plate arrived which were slightly better but still undercooked. There wasn't any seasoning to mention of - bland throughout.
For the price you pay - it wasn't good value for money.
Excellent Covid precautions in place.
Service friendly and quick considering how fresh the food was. Lovely tasty food and cold drinks.
Thank you for a lovely experience in stressful times
Food was good..lack of ingredients of some main meals, obviously understandable given current circumstances
Doing a good job during the covid restrictions. Nice food and attentive staff. Lacked a buzz - but not really the pub's fault but more because not many people were there for lunch.
Great breakfast with teenagers - quality food, great value, excellent service!
We had a really relaxing lunch, the food was excellent as was the service from a very cheerful young lady, who made us feel very special
The COVID-19 precautions in Place made us feel safe
Lovely lunch for two. Tables spaced out brilliantly and staff doing a great job under the current circumstances. Felt very safe and comfortable.
The service was very slow took 2 hours for us to have a starter & a main course!
Had to wait for the waitress to come into the dining room to order another drink as she didn’t come & check to see if we were ok etc.
We had a 33% of mains, I gave it to waitress & she said it was fine to use.
We paid the bill & when we got outside to leave I noticed the offer had not been took off.
I didn’t go back in as by this point I had lost the will to live & couldn’t be bothered.
We will not be returning in a hurry.
Recommended by a local - lunch of sandwiches and drinks. Staff friendly- everything covid compliant and we enjoyed our visit.
The steaks were excellent. As always we had yet another lovely meal at the George Inn.
Excellent service. Staff very friendly. Restaurant clean and we felt totally safe. Our first meal out since lock down, although understandably a limited menu (different to what we read on website but we may have read it wrong!), what was available was very nice.
Great food. Well presented. Would go again. Good price.
Food took 50 minutes to arrive after ordering, had no actual service so would’ve been better to use the app and was placed in the pub area for dining when restaurant booking was requested, as a result noisy group overtook the ambience of the area and made it difficult to hear when becoming busy. In all honesty the food wasn’t worth the price as arrived lukewarm and lacking flavour in some parts and the artisan bread is just chopped up bread you could likely buy from waitrose - would’ve expected slightly more for its description. All round disappointing.
Great food great staff very clean I highly recommend
Due to present circumstances, sadly did not have my favourites, but felt very safe, tables well distanced, obvious hand sanitizer available, swift table service, but was a quiet Tuesday evening.
Staff stepping up to the challenges they are facing.
The food was great, the squid was first class and we recommend this place to everyone.
This was our second trip to The George. We were looking for a moderately priced pub to meet up with family approximately half way between our home and theirs. The George ticked all our boxes. There wasn't a huge choice of food but there was something for everyone. All of the food ordered by everyone came hot and was appetising and was also reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and we were reassured that they were taking all precautions against Covid. This looks to be our new favourite venue for family meets.
The George Inn is a fabulous pub. There was plenty of choice for both adults and children. The service was wonderful and friendly. We felt completely safe and well taken care of during these COVID19 times.
The food was delicious and portions were plentiful. The pub was quite busy for a Monday evening which I really liked. We would definitely visit again if we are in the area. Highly recommended.
Lovely meal I went for the salmon with Rosemary potatoes and hubby had the steak and ale pie followed by apple and BlackBerry crumble and sticky toffee pudding it was cooked beautifully!
Staff very friendly and happy, will definitely go back!
We liked the food and the location but due to the COVID requirements our food was delivered to a stand on to trays from which we had to serve ourselves, this is the first restaurant where this has happened. This also meant some of the plates were not served at the same time as the tray was not big enough. We were a group of 6 adults plus a small child, we sat at two tables, this did not help with the serving.
we fully understand the staff being extra careful but it detract from the meal.
Lovely roast dinner and crumble and custard. Couldn’t fault it. Staff very friendly and helpful. Felt very safe, everyone following Covid measures.
Well-spaced tables, friendly and helpful staff and very nice food. Would recommend.
Waited for an hour for food.. still no food we ended up walking out. Nobody bothered to check on us and couldn’t get up to find someone due to covid rules. Don’t recommend.
Food was lovely. Good staff, great choice of food
Food and staff were fantastic but we thought the tables should have been further apart for social distancing.
The order was given to the kitchen incorrectly, so we had to wait with one meal already at the table. Ordered chicken Caesar, received seafood jacket potato. We were told it would take 20 mins to cook a chicken salad. They did not offer to remove my meal (it was a cold Buddha bowl) & then serve both meals together.
They offered the salad to come without chicken as it would be quicker, but then served it with chicken about 25 mins later. It took over an hour for us both to be served.
The Buddha bowl was disappointing. Just chopped up veg with little flavour. On a plate, not a bowl, for over £12.
The chicken Caesar was underwhelming.
Overall, food disappointing. No offer of an apology when we paid the bill & no reduction as they’d got it so wrong.
Not a great experience for our first lunch out since Covid!
The George is making every effort to make customers feel safe and comfortable eating there. I would have preferred if the waitress had a face shield however.
Although a little on the expensive side especially the drinks the food was both tasty and wholesome and pretty good value in truth I would eat here again just for that beef pie
