The Green Room at HOTEL DU PONT

The food was excellent but the service was horrible.
Been going to the Green Room for 55 years. Glad we got to go again before it's transformed into a new-name "brasserie." Sad to see the end of an era, but we have many wonderful memories of the food, the service, the elegance. And, of course, the macaroons.
Gem of a restaurant in the Hotel du Pont in downtown Wilmington, DE. Excellent, varied and interesting menu beautifully prepared and delicious. Fantastic ambiance and while first class, not stuffy. Attentive service. Staff was sincere in wanting us to enjoy ourselves. It was a great meal and a wonderful experience.
This is an absolutely beautiful place, the ambience is amazing. Cocktails are out of this world and what a wonderful mixologist they have. Food is nice but needs some improvement. My steak was overcooked and so was the fish we ordered. Service needs to be much better. We were there on a weeknight and the restaurant was half empty. But the servers were not able to keep up. No one asked how our food was, I wanted pepper for my steak and had to hunt down my server. If the mixologist wouldn't come over from the bar himself, we would probably not be able to get more cocktails. We will definitely be back but I hope they fix the issue with their servers
The finest Gluten Free food in the Wilmington area. A true pleasure.
We just had to go onw more time before the makeover got nostalgia's sake. Never disappoints. Curious to see what they do.
The grand lady will be getting a make over soon; get in quickly to enjoy the classic elegance, understated but attentive service and of course, the macaroons. Was great for post theater dining especially on a rainy night
Especially nice for a special occasion, but any occasion there would be special!
Great food in a beautiful room. The servers work in a team and provide a wonderful dining experience. The piano player adds a wonderful touch.
My wife ordered the special - seared tuna and was VERY pleased. I ordered the black angus rib eye and was unimpressed. It wasn't terrible, but I've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Everything else was exquisite, including the service ... Very attentive without hovering. Well done.
I let the restaurant know we were celebrating my birthday. I did not expect anything special except a happy birthday greeting. The atmosphere was pleasant although the restaurant and hotel could use a facelift. The maitre d could have come to our table and asked how our experience was as what we are used to in other restaurants of that caliber. Limited choice of Teas. Overpriced for mid-level champagne. I had a good time because of the company I was with. All in all it was expensive for what we had. Vegetarians beware.
The food was excellent, the service very efficient, the only down side was the hotel guests who were noisy and treated the Sunday brunch as a chance to recap their previous night's events at a volume that was disrespectful of the other diners. Dressed in hoodies, Ugg boots, snow beanies, and pajamas they were at odds with the opulent setting.
Great food and service, beautiful room.
The Green Room is a classic. Unbelievable venue with hand carved wood work on the ceiling and walls. It is beautiful. The food is fantastic. It was a great evening except for our server. He rushed us and didn't really listen to what we said. He was probably the worst server we have ever had at the Green Room. He shouldn't work there.
Our pre-theater dinner and service were excellent. There is no other place in Delaware as elegant as the Green Room. We have had celebratory dinners here for years. It's sad to know that this is the last year the Green Room will exist. We fear that whatever replaces it will be much more ordinary. We will be back to eat here again before it is gone.
We enjoyed an excellent pre-theater lunch on Saturday, November 16. The service was fast and and at tentative, the food was lovely, and my martini was excellent! Jack O'Rourke has done an excellent job as restaurant manger in putting a team together that can deal with a full restaurant with time constraints and still deliver gracious service and excellent food. The Green Room lived up to it's reputation as a fine dining facility during our visit.
Lunch before theater with my sister
Wonderful sophisticated dining. Very concerned that their plans for contemporary renovations will diminish the ambiance and turn it into a loud obnoxious millennial hangout.
Our experience was very good as we celebrated my wife's birthday. The little birthday cake was a nice surprise.
Better than we expected! Great service. Great value on the wines as well.
First off, the space is exquisite. Our food was wonderful in its ownright and the service was absolutely 5 star!
Great service. Great food. Elegant environment. Dine here every month. Live piano music. CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are often seated next to you. Delaware is headquarters for major US companies. ( Tax Advantage )
The hostess was amazing. Our waitress was just OK. Breakfast was pretty good. The restaurant is beautiful inside. Would give it another try.
Great ambience, looks like something out of the Gilded Age. Very appropriate since it is connected to the historic Hotel Du Pont. Food was interesting but limited choice on pre-theater menu. Pricing was on the high end, but it is a special location.
My wife and I were celebrating our 36 anniversary and we could not have picked a better place to celebrate it. Nice quiet atmosphere excellent food beautiful dining area. Would highly recommend it thanks.
soup and salmon were outstanding Price matched the value
Anniversary. Waiter asked if it was a special occasion, and brought us a special dessert in celebration. It was excellent.
Our experience was on a weekday evening. A spacious high vaulted ceiling dining area with golden chandeliers. A large selection of wines and spirits are made available to suit your budget. My wife had scallops and I foie gras as starters. Perfect. I had their special - rack of lamb with mashed potatoes, green beans and a currant relish. The wife had roast chicken with asparagus, wild rice and eringi mushrooms. Both meals were superlative in presentation texture and flavor. Prepared table side, dessert was a wonderful banana rum flambé on vanilla ice cream. The green room is everything one would expect with fine dining. The staff is personable, professional and attentive without hovering. I highly recommend it.
The Green Room Sunday Brunch is just about the best brunch experience one could have in the United States. It is reminiscent of European graciousness and hospitality, but surprisingly, the food, which didn't really have to be center stage, was equal to the luxurious surroundings. We were greeted with a generous pour of excellent champagne, overstuffed furnishings in a secluded corner, crisp linens and an attentive server. From there, the experience only got better: creative, healthy choices on the buffet, well executed entrees, and.....those desserts!!! The Green Room will be the go to destination for family celebrations, and
for times my husband and I just need some pampering.
It was a really weird experience. Overall, it's' a gorgeous setting completely mismatched to inattentive service (45 minute wait for food even with few patrons), with expensive food that seems lower end in execution and flavor. You are just paying for the beautiful room and nothing more.
Just an excellent place, food service, definitely will be back 5 Stars!!!
Excellent service at the Green Room. We went on a Tuesday, very quiet.
Food was delicious and well presented. We were there for a birthday and they brought out a dessert which was a nice touch.
A great dinner. Great service. Tables are spaced apart. Piano player. All good!
This was our second visit to the Green Room, but definitely not our last! It’s rare to find such a lovely setting that also serves tremendous food. Even the one hour commute from home will not keep us away.
We had a wonderful Sunday brunch to celebrate my daughters 15th birthday. The girls loved dressing up and feeling special for the day. The food was fabulous.
Still elegant with delightful piano music at dinner. Food is excellent quality but lacks imagination. Several slips in service which should not happen at this level. Water glasses not refilled and bottle of white wine delivered at room temperature taking 20 minutes to chill to satisfactory temperature. Wine not overpriced and nice list.
A very special place. Food, service and atmosphere.
A refreshing experience. It has been a long time since we have enjoyed dining in an elegant room with excellent food and courteous, attentive service accompanied by soft piano music. Our servers worked in the restaurant for 36 and 30 years respectively. Not only was the food excellent, I was surprised to find it was also reasonably priced.
Food was amazing! Great service! Definitely will be back.
Beautiful. Loved the tea service.
