The Grove Surbiton
We love this pub but we’re not impressed with the food this time round. Myself and my mum had a fish finger sandwich, the bread was stale and for £10 a pop I wasn’t impressed. My partner had a burger and said it was lovely and my sons kids meal for £6 was twice the size.
Saying that the service is always lovely and I like the pub. We sat in the outdoor huts with heater which was perfect at this time.
Good Morning Surbmum, Thank you for your 4* review. I'm really sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the food on your most recent visit. We will work with the kitchen team when they are back and make consistency and quality the focus. We look forward to welcoming you when we are allowed to reopen. In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Best, Kerry & The Team
Lovely last evening at The Grove - can't wait to be back in December
Unfortunately due to the situat
Hello Anonymous, Sorry to read this was a poor visit. The last few days before lock down were a challenge in terms of stock availability and staffing. We hope that you will give us a try once we are allowed to reopen and in semi ordinary times again. In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Kerry & The Team
Large amounts of the menu was unavailable.
Steak arrived with different side to advertised and was very small.
App showed as not accepting my card and i now have a pending transaction on my account.
Good Morning Jess, Sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your experience. We're sorry that most of the menu was unavailable on your visit. We too are disappointed that we weren't able to offer our normal menu. Owing to the late announcement of the lock down & being a fresh food kitchen - all of our deliveries were cancelled. Please let us know if the pending transaction has returned to you - we are working with a new provider when we reopen to prevent this happening in the future. Team Surbo
Awful. Front of house was rude and very unfriendly. Intimidating even. Only around 20% of the menu was available and we weren’t made aware of this before being sat at our table. I understand that the hospitality industry is under a lot of stress at the moment but surely this means they would up their customer service, not throw it out of the window!
Good for drinks only, food and service were terrible. I had food turn up on my plate which was not on the menu. Needless to say this is very dangerous, its lucky I don't suffer from allergies.
We have allways loved this pub - they have spent and considered all the social distancing rules and spent a fortune on the garden which is stunning and very cosy. Visit and enjoy
Hello Anonymous, Thanks for the lovely review! We're glad you love the new garden - we do too! We look forward to being able to welcome you back to spend some more time in it. In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Kerry & The Team
Service was absolutely terrible. There were only two of us and it took 3 hours to have a drink each and a main course. The restaurant did not seem busy and there were plenty of staff, but none of them seemed to pay any attention to us. We tried ordering on the app but it wasn’t working so we had to wait for staff to take our food order which took them an hour. Food didn’t take too long to arrive, but then it took another hour or so for them to give us the bill and come to take the payment. Food was ok but definitely wouldn’t return due to the slow service.
Excellent service and great food. Heated and covered beer garden is a wonderful feature
Hi Kirsty, Thanks so much for the 5* review - that last weekend before lock down was a little unprecedented! We're glad you enjoyed our new garden and we look forward to being able to welcome you back again soon! In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Kerry & The Team
Fantastic covered areas in garden with heaters. Service a little slow after ordering on the app but that’s to be expected at the moment. Food tasty and good menu options.
Good place to go to dine outside. There is adequate covering should there be rain and heaters are provided if its cold. The staff are very friendly and the service was good when I visited with a friend.
Good Morning Hetty, Thank you so much for your 4* review, very much appreciated. We look forward to being able to welcome you back when are allowed to reopen and strive for a 5*. In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Best, Kerry & The Team
This pub takes the pandemic seriously, from requiring you to scan into track and trace on entry through to distanced tables ( all outside tables under cover, most with heaters). Order and pay by app with table service only, it's a shame all pubs aren't like this. Will definitely go back regularly once the current lockdown allows.
Hello Dominic, Thanks for the 5*! Very much appreciated. And appreciated that our Covid Secure efforts are recognised. It's not all that fun all the time - but we do our best to keep our guests and team safe. Also glad to hear you like the garden - we love the new look. We look forward to being able to welcome you back once we're allowed - in the meantime - stay safe! Best, Kerry & The Team
Friendly and accommodating - comfy and cozy booths
Sat outside, felt very covid secure and great garden with partitions and heaters in place. New food menu which was ok but not great amount of choice and halloumi fries had far too much batter on them. Had a good evening.
Hi Joanna, Thanks for the lovely 5* review, it's much appreciated. We'll pass the feedback re the halloumi fries and ranging onto the chefs. By the time we're able to reopen - we'll have a few christmassy bits available too. We look forward to being able to welcome you back soon - in the meantime - stay safe. Best, Kerry & The Team
Good pub with good service and food. Always enjoy my visits!
Good Morning Tarnie, Thanks for the 5*! Very much appreciated. We look forward to being able to welcome you back soon! In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon. Best, Kerry & The Team
We booked a table outside and although I wasn’t aware of a time limit the staff managed to keep us the table. They were very attentive and speedy when it came to drinks service.
Will definitely be back.
Hello Kate, Thanks so much for the 5* review! Glad to read we were able to keep you around for longer - we love having our guests stay. We look forward to being able to welcome you back again soon. In the meantime - stay safe and see you soon! Kerry & The Team
Really well arranged for outdoor drinks and dining. Great service. Slightly noisy because of leaf blower.
We were given a menu which didn't have kids food on it. So the next time we saw a waiter we asked for that. That never appeared. We asked another waiter who also went looking and who on her return announced that there was a problem with the gas and thus only a limited menu for all was available. She had to go back twice to the kitchen to find out what they could actually offer
It took 50min between arrival and being able to order food. As the pub was basically empty that was very disappointing. The only saving grace was that the kids food was free. It such a shame because the garden looks great and during current times should be a fantastic asset. It felt a bit like people working were not at all set up to do table service and make it a welcoming/ stressfree experience.
Waited an hour for drinks!! We ordered through 3 members of staff before they arrived!
Sat outside with no working heaters as they had run out of gas. Had booked expecting a table inside and it was never communicated that the table would be outside. We were seated at at a table next to a family with a baby, closer than 2m despite plenty of other available tables. I ordered drinks and when they arrived tried to order food. No vegetarian/vegan roasts available. The waitor said he would check but didn't come back. We then waited around 45 minutes. Tried to get a staff members attention to pay the bill to leave after being ignored but was not possible so had to go to the bar to pay. When doing so, no one asked if everything was okay or why we were leaving.
This is a very safe venue during Covid-19 restrictions.
This was my 2nd visit dining outside, the table Location this time was much less well protected from the cold (the booth locations are better). I ordered by the app, long delay for drinks .. which cane more than 25 mins after ordering; food arrived after 35 mins, but mains first! The Grove has a lot of positives but the current understaffing and inability by the kitchen to distinguish starter and main dishes bring down the overall experience.
Had a lovely lunch there last week. The garden is great with lots of tables and booths all with heaters so it was easy to eat outside. Food good too.
Great service. Even got a dish not on the menu. Not unexpectedly it was quiet. Food was very good. Very prepared for Covid. Clean.
Great outdoor space and very accommodating for people with dogs!
great afternoon, staff really friendly, really enjoyable!!!!
Although the meal was lovely, I feel the cost was rather high.
Nice setting, 210 quid for roast and 2 bottles of wine with a few beers is excessive.
A very good roast dinner with family, the restaurant was very well organised with relation to COVID-19
We found the service quite slack.
We sat opposite the bar where the staff were chatting, eventually after 10 minutes we asked for our own drinks menu and even then the drinks sat on the side not being delivered.
2 other guys came in and sat on the lower level after us, they were eating and drinking before us.
There appeared to be only 1 staff member who was running the lower restaurant who was pulling his weight.
Quite an inexperienced team it seemed.
What I call the inside outside space is great. This is the only pub in the area I am truly comfortable in under the current C19 circumstances. The Grove has invested and worked hard to ensure diners are comfortable and well catered for both inside and out, with plenty of spacing, partitions, outside covering and patio heaters. The food and service very good.
Good food, ok drinks. Definitely felt COVID secure. Service was quite slow as it got busier, and the music was very loud (we were shouting on a 2 person table) which was unfortunate.
Checking in was more complicated than anywhere else we have been, simply because the QR code wasn't in decent lighting! Sat for 20 minutes before we got asked if we wanted a drink, but after that service was good Food rather average which was a surprise, but beer good.
Busy and nice atmosphere, but probably won't hurry back.
Great local place. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We have a great time very time we come.
Unfortunately, the food was cold. We had a Sunday roast and had it not been that we were in a little bit of a rush due to my wife having to travel, we would have sent it back.
The waitress did offer to heat it up, which I don't feel was the correct response or action. I did expect an offer to discount the food but this wasn't offered. As a result, this makes it an easy decision not to return, rather than giving The Grove a 2nd chance.
Having spoken to a friend yesterday it appears this is not unusual for the carvery to be cold.
Really compliant with all the rules and staff are doing a fantastic job.
Food was lovely, thanks for a nice evening
Always enjoys my time at the Grove, the staff are very welcoming
It’s quiet but where isn’t? Lots of space so very Covid safe and really friendly service
Great food and drink, plus fantastic service in a nice environment. What more could you want?
