The Grove Surbiton
We were given a menu which didn't have kids food on it. So the next time we saw a waiter we asked for that. That never appeared. We asked another waiter who also went looking and who on her return announced that there was a problem with the gas and thus only a limited menu for all was available. She had to go back twice to the kitchen to find out what they could actually offer
It took 50min between arrival and being able to order food. As the pub was basically empty that was very disappointing. The only saving grace was that the kids food was free. It such a shame because the garden looks great and during current times should be a fantastic asset. It felt a bit like people working were not at all set up to do table service and make it a welcoming/ stressfree experience.
Waited an hour for drinks!! We ordered through 3 members of staff before they arrived!
Sat outside with no working heaters as they had run out of gas. Had booked expecting a table inside and it was never communicated that the table would be outside. We were seated at at a table next to a family with a baby, closer than 2m despite plenty of other available tables. I ordered drinks and when they arrived tried to order food. No vegetarian/vegan roasts available. The waitor said he would check but didn't come back. We then waited around 45 minutes. Tried to get a staff members attention to pay the bill to leave after being ignored but was not possible so had to go to the bar to pay. When doing so, no one asked if everything was okay or why we were leaving.
This is a very safe venue during Covid-19 restrictions.
This was my 2nd visit dining outside, the table Location this time was much less well protected from the cold (the booth locations are better). I ordered by the app, long delay for drinks .. which cane more than 25 mins after ordering; food arrived after 35 mins, but mains first! The Grove has a lot of positives but the current understaffing and inability by the kitchen to distinguish starter and main dishes bring down the overall experience.
Had a lovely lunch there last week. The garden is great with lots of tables and booths all with heaters so it was easy to eat outside. Food good too.
Great service. Even got a dish not on the menu. Not unexpectedly it was quiet. Food was very good. Very prepared for Covid. Clean.
Great outdoor space and very accommodating for people with dogs!
great afternoon, staff really friendly, really enjoyable!!!!
Although the meal was lovely, I feel the cost was rather high.
Nice setting, 210 quid for roast and 2 bottles of wine with a few beers is excessive.
A very good roast dinner with family, the restaurant was very well organised with relation to COVID-19
We found the service quite slack.
We sat opposite the bar where the staff were chatting, eventually after 10 minutes we asked for our own drinks menu and even then the drinks sat on the side not being delivered.
2 other guys came in and sat on the lower level after us, they were eating and drinking before us.
There appeared to be only 1 staff member who was running the lower restaurant who was pulling his weight.
Quite an inexperienced team it seemed.
What I call the inside outside space is great. This is the only pub in the area I am truly comfortable in under the current C19 circumstances. The Grove has invested and worked hard to ensure diners are comfortable and well catered for both inside and out, with plenty of spacing, partitions, outside covering and patio heaters. The food and service very good.
Good food, ok drinks. Definitely felt COVID secure. Service was quite slow as it got busier, and the music was very loud (we were shouting on a 2 person table) which was unfortunate.
Checking in was more complicated than anywhere else we have been, simply because the QR code wasn't in decent lighting! Sat for 20 minutes before we got asked if we wanted a drink, but after that service was good Food rather average which was a surprise, but beer good.
Busy and nice atmosphere, but probably won't hurry back.
Great local place. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We have a great time very time we come.
Unfortunately, the food was cold. We had a Sunday roast and had it not been that we were in a little bit of a rush due to my wife having to travel, we would have sent it back.
The waitress did offer to heat it up, which I don't feel was the correct response or action. I did expect an offer to discount the food but this wasn't offered. As a result, this makes it an easy decision not to return, rather than giving The Grove a 2nd chance.
Having spoken to a friend yesterday it appears this is not unusual for the carvery to be cold.
Really compliant with all the rules and staff are doing a fantastic job.
Food was lovely, thanks for a nice evening
Always enjoys my time at the Grove, the staff are very welcoming
It’s quiet but where isn’t? Lots of space so very Covid safe and really friendly service
Great food and drink, plus fantastic service in a nice environment. What more could you want?
Great food and friendly service as always. One of the best pubs in Surbiton and very good social distancing.
We always have a great time in the grove. The service is always wonderful especially at the moment.
Lovely pub. The bar manager did an amazing job of accommodating groups of people despite the cover restrictions
Favourite pub. Kerri does such a fantastic job running this pub, the team are always lovely and the food is delicious! Highly recommend!
I had to send my food back as it was cold. I asked for a new plate of food as I didn’t want it microwaved. When it came back, it was clear that it was the same food that had been microwaved. I ate a little and left the rest - which wasn’t cleared away so left to stand in front of me for ages. Nobody asked me if my second plate was ok or how I was - and they were clearly annoyed with me for sending my food back (how would they like to pay £16 for a yummy roast on a Sunday for that to happen?) My friends’ food was also not hot, but they chose to eat it. Nobody asked them if their food was ok. It’s such a shame because I was there a few weeks before and the service was impeccable and the food delish. I’m not sure if the chef changed but it was horribly disappointing.... such a shame.
Nice pub with good service but the food was very poor. Quality of the ingredients (particularly the burgers) was way off. Would return for a drink but not to eat.
Great place for lunch meet-up. Dog friendly. V friendly staff.
Food was really poor. Cold when arrived no one came to check. Asked for the manager he came over but wasn't very sympathetic. Overall this is sad as we were regulars.
Spent £36 for one person to have a Beef Roast and 2 starters! Absolute rip off!
Hi Hari, we're sorry to hear about your experience- we strive for a lot better than what you describe on your visit- is there a way we can contact you direct to establish where we can use your feedback for the future? Kind regards, Chris
Fab staff and service. Very well organised. The beer garden is a lovely setting. Had a nice lunch.
Lunch in one of the fabulous garden booths. Excellent, attentive and quick service via the App. Food was lovely and enjoyed by all.
Great pub, delicious food and excellent customer service. Nice, friendly, laid back atmosphere. Loved the dog photo wall!!
Came for lunch on a Saturday. They have strict covid policies, so we had to quick for a bit whilst people checked in. The outside is by far more atmospheric than the dining area inside. The manager was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely go back.
Lunch on a weekday. Was quiet and well organised for social distancing etc
Lovely setting and Ella, our waitress, was delightful!
Lacking in Vegan options (though loads of lovely looking regular options) very Covid safe, loads of room per table and the nicest waiter
Half the menu was not available
