It was okay. Waiter didn’t communicate to bus person so my friend’s left overs got thrown out instead of put in a box to take home. Waiter did offer to have another dish prepared though. Waiter also brought my other friend another glass of wine that he didn’t order, and we got charged for it. Had mostly good experience.
Our server was Mike and he really gave attention to the kids. We enjoyed the ambiance and festivities, although the restaurant was really busy. They had good organization, with some people bussing, clearing, and refilling drinks, while others got orders and delivered food.
I have been the Hamilton a few times. It is not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet dining experience but are looking for something a bit livelier. I was really sad that my favorite thing on the menu was gone with nothing similar to replace it. Beer and wine selection is really good. The waiter was friendly. The service was a little slow but it was also pretty busy.
Late lunch for small family group in between sightseeing (I live here). Food mainly great but took off 1 star because shrimp tempura was doused in very spicy sauce - should have asked for it on the side but should not have been doused (really coated) in the first place. A dressing in a few drops and dribbles would be more appropriate for this intense sauce so as to allow palette to also taste shrimp and slaw. That being said, kind waiter offered to replace- but I never never send food back. Atmosphere was perfect and loved the Audubon prints used everywhere, they “went” well with our Natural History Museum trip that afternoon.
Our boys were visiting from Boston and Pittsburgh so this was a day out to see the Vermeer and Jackson Pollock specials at the National Arts- and a celebratory dinner after. Hamilton was seasonally festive with holiday decorations and glittering wreaths on the picture windows. The wood paneled interior lined with gorgeous murals made for a beautiful ambiance. We were seated in a cozy booth -the staff very courteous. We ordered the miso soup with tofu and shitake -excellent- and the marinated lemongrass salmon, grilled chicken with veggie medley and the steamed bass. I settled for the vegetarian squash dish laced with apple cider and wild rice- and it was quite a feast. We all enjoyed- really!
Reasonably priced, pretty good food, and a really wide variety. The place is huge so it's an excellent spot for large parties. We went for an office holiday lunch, so it was extremely busy with other large groups doing the same. But for all of that, service was still pretty good.
The squid ink pasta in the Bucatini Del Mar was a gooey glop of inseparable paste. It required a knife and fork to pare it down to a reasonable size to eat. Working the utensils around the clam shells in a bowl of broth was a challenge. I would have sent it back, but I was a guest of relatives and didn’t want to spoil the dinner.
On a positive note, the service was excellent. Knowledge, friendly, and attentive.
The brunch menu is phenomenal. It is my favorite brunch in all of DC (for food). Drinks are a little pricey, but the boozy shakes are very worth it! I recommend sharing a few entrees so you can taste everything. Do not skip the French toast. It’s my favorite thing on the menu.
Great food and great atmosphere but really rough service. I called ahead of time to tell them it was my fiancé’s birthday and that I wanted to order a cake and the server mentioned it to both of us as soon as we sat down. Our food came out before our drinks, our drinks were wrong and the server left dirty plates on the table as we switched courses and even brought my fiancé’s birthday cake out when I was in the bathroom.... Food was fabulous though.
The Hamilton never fails. Great food, great prices and great service. I met up there with three friends and we got lucky enough to get one of the booths in the first dining room with a door. It was perfect. It allowed us to hunker down for a marathon catch up. Our server was great and attentive and they let us linger with little bother.
The food was great too.
Only downside was a slight draft, but it couldn't take away from the general awesomeness.
The service was a bit slow, and some of the dishes arrived cold. We could tell some of our food was just sitting before it was served. We were very disappointed with our experience. The manager apologized and told us that she talked to the kitchen about it. Obviously, that didn’t really salvage the experience.
Food was not very good and service was terrible. One of the diners in my party said it was the worst hamburger she had ever had. Rib eye steaks were not good quality. My wife's filet was only ok. There was confusion about who our waiter was and we had trouble getting anyone's attention. Reservation was for 4:30 pm as we had a 7:00 pm show at the Warner Theatre. Confusion by the staff nearly made us late for the show. We were not finished at the restaurant until 6:45. When one of the people in my party suggested 4:30 for the reservation I thought that was a bit early but that turned out not to be the case.
Noise levels at The Hamilton are beyond deafening... the food is overpriced, and several of the dishes ordered were bizarrely prepared: over cooked dried out creamed spinach, a steak with enough bernaise for only several bites. Potato gratin that was covered in a sickly sweet sauce without a trace of cheese or browning. A gooey cake that was a plate of syrupy goo and nothing more, and an apple pie that didn’t resemble anything that any chef would call a pie... The service was excessively interfering but ok, but PLEASE don’t take away plates while others are still eating. Finally, every dish was overpriced. No problem... NOT coming back...
I have gone twice now before heading to the theatre and it was perfect! The key is to get there early and enjoy a relaxing meal with plenty of time to head down the street to any of the theatres that are just a couple blocks away. The sushi was GREAT. The drinks were even better and I really enjoyed the gingerbread cake as a holiday dessert.
The worst dining experience I've had in a long time. I would have given it a 1 star but my wife's crab cake and another diners rigatoni sausage ragu was good. I had the beef tartare and it was the most disgusting beef tartare that I've ever eaten. Tartare is suppose to be small cubes of steak with capers, shallots, dijon mustard, pickled onions, cherry peppers or jalapenos and egg with toast. Instead, I received a raw meatball with no flavor, no egg with pita chips. It was disgusting!
