Went there for my mother’s 65th birthday. Up on arrival the reception staff were unwelcoming they were having a chat rather than checking us in. When we were then seated we waited 15 minutes before somebody came to take our drinks order. We gave our drinks order to a lady who disappeared and after waiting a further amount of time with no drinks appearing we gave a repeat order to a different waiter. When the food eventually arrived they forgot 2 of the side orders my son had ordered. Once we paid the bill we were finishing our drinks and at 10.30pm a member of staff came out and rudely told us we had to leave as they close at 10.30. On checking the hours of business it states open until 11pm. After visiting a number of the Richard Caring restaurants in both England and Wales I found it the worst experience ever and not the standard we have come to expect from the Ivy name. I will definitely not visit here ever again
The receptionist might have been having a bad day as she was very curt and rude.
We had a very nice table (No 24). The food, as always, was wonderful. I had scallops and fish cake and mum had salmon and a fillet steak. Never had a bad meal at the Ivy. It was nice to be back in a restaurant with people all having a lovely time. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
Could not fault the food quality and taste which was outstanding the service provided from Alex and his colleagues in the dining area outside was faultless.
However the female staff member who was checking people in bearly acknowledged us didn't greet us on arrival, no eye contact and muttered something to a colleague to show us to our table.
Unfortunately our booking was during a torrential downpour of rain which lasted a long time and we had booked to be outside. The surly receptionist showed no empathy about this when she announced she could not accommodate us inside as they were fully booked I understood this but her delivery of the fact left a lot to be desired. We gave a low ambience score as we did feel a bit like the poor relations shunned and told to sit outside in the storm. Shame as we had looked forward to this visit for a long time.
We were allowed in to use he toilets which were excellent extremely clean and probably the nicest toilets we have ever been in
The food is always very good at Ivy restaurants with varied menu if you’re unsure of what others might like. Always good quality but not cheap and keep going back as it is extremely reliable.
Always good food and atmosphere at this ivy restaurant
Sitting outside was a bit of a problem when rain fell done so worth thinking about it if weather looks iffy when booking Id go for inside.
Great service and loved the birthday profiterole! Would definitely return
Lovely food, our waiter was under going training which was explained to us and this was done in a lovely manner and didn’t impact on our service
frequently go to the Ivy restaurants - Bath, Bristol, London (Kensington), Winchester and I have to say this one is poor by comparison. The restaurant looks tired and could do with a make-over. Will not return
18th Birthday celebration
Food was excellent, but the service was terrible. we waited a long time to be served, then were pretty much left along - the wine was too far away for us to pour for ourselves! Plus they forgot several dishes. A wonderful meal let down by terrible service.
Great to see the restaurant open again to full capacity. Lovely atmosphere, great food and service. I've missed eating there and always have excellent meals.
Good breakfast and the service was very welcoming.
Steak done to my requirement
Attentive staff, good menu choice including vegetarian fare, excellent wine
Delicious food and great service. Restaurant quite dark so difficult to read the menu!!
I was disappointed the I order Sole and the chef was not able to take it off the bone so I had to order something else.
Generally the atmosphere and service was OK but I had to call the waiter over many times to refill our wine glasses.
Nice selection of food without too much. Good Service, bit slow on drinks but waiter very friendly
Always just perfect, service excellent food outstanding
Our first visit to The Ivy lived up to our expectations. We had a warm welcome from staff and the waiters were attentive and helpful.
The food was exquisite and the celebratory gift was a lovely touch and surprise.
Nice setting- lovely afternoon tea.
Waiters/waitresses could have been a little more attentive
So impressed with quality of food
Truly delicious- booked to go back at the weekend
Food and service was excellent. The restaurant itself was quite quiet so atmosphere was not as good as usual.
Service pushy and abrupt when we asked if we could finish our aperitif before staring our starters.
We had to ask for the wine to be brought… that was after being served the wrong aperitif first!
The soufflé was lovely but we’ve had better tempura… my streak tartare was too cold - you need to be able to taste the flavour of the meat but my partner’s shepherds pie was good.
All in all, for the cost it wasn’t worth it.
A really pleasant evening. We both enjoyed our meal. I had scallops, with extra parmesan fries, and the monk fish curry. The starter was OK and the curry was very good. The service was good and pleasant. A real bug bear was the mark up on the wine, the highest we have experienced for Whispering Angel rose. £18 in Waitrose £57 here. I presume there was a similar mark up on the other wines. Lock down has taught us the real value of wines . The Ivy are just being greedy. Think carefully about whether you would be satisfied with a less over priced wine.
Pre theatre dinner
Really attentive staff and the food was delicious, my third time dining at an ivy restaurant and am looking forward to the next one already!
Grilled chicken salad was very filling and gorgeously presented, and the eggs on the Royale were cooked to perfection
Food and service were amazing.
Slightly spoilt by the two girls on the table next to us that decided to carry out COVID test at their table!! Gross - decided not to stay for pudding after seeing that. Staff were good and asked them to put the COVID test bits away but by that time it was too late!
Fantastic restaurant with friendly, efficient staff. Good selection of food and drinks.
you can't really go wrong with the Ivy - the food and service is always great
Charming place, polite and friendly service. Not high-quality food, especially the beef tartare
Brilliant service, great atmosphere, food was gorgeous
Great food great service good atmosphere one blemish had to que for 10 mins even tho we had a table booked.
the table was far too small for 6 people. cheap paper napkins. the service was extremely slow and we had to keep asking different waiting staff for the same thing. toilets messy, dirty and broken.
I had booked a table for 5.45pm and we had to wait until 6.10pm to be seated. I asked if I could order drinks whilst I waited at the bar and was told that it wasn’t possible to order drinks until you are seated at the table!
We were given water instead.
We were finally shown to our table which was pushed up closely to all the other tables, shoulders almost touching the person on the table behind!
The noise level was very loud and as we were seated on a main walkway, every time someone walked past us they bumped our chairs.
The waitress was very attentive and this was the only part that made the experience bearable.
Very disappointed as I had booked this for our anniversary dinner.
I was expecting to be writing a damning review as the experience started really badly.
Arrived a few minutes before 5.45 when our table eas booked for. We were told our table wasn't ready but we could wait at the bar. No problem we said - we'll have a drink while we wait.
You can't we were told - no drinks at the bar as we're too short staffed. (Other couples at the bar had no drinks either except two ladies had glasses of bubbly. When I asked why I was told "this was my colleagues mistake")
I suggested we left and came back later but was assured the wait would only be 5 minutes.
30 minutes later my husband went and complained.
Miraculously within 3 minutes we were taken to a table.
Both feeling pretty irritated but the cocktails and food were delicious and the waiting staff were lovely.
I will go back but the initial handling was very poor. My husband was told diners were "outstaying their welcome". He asked then why weren't they asked to leave? Obviously no answer could be given.
I wonder how long we'd have had to wait if we hadn't complained? We were going to the theatre so had no choice but to do so or leave.
Glad we stayed because we left happy after lovely food.
Very friendly staff who were happy to help. Food was very good and sent out quickly. Would happily go back!
Absolutely fantastic meal and service. Had a truly wonderful evening.
The lamb shepherds pie was beautiful it was so tasty.
The meals were delivered quickly & the wife said how beautiful the ladies toilets were x
Visited previously and great , this visit was very poor as after sitting down it took 45 minutes just to get a water and drinks then very slow for the food and then rushed to get us out, lack of staff and for the experience very high cost .
