The Lickfold Inn
Excellent food and wine, such a lovely place we have now been three times and will definitely go back!
My wife and I have been at the Lickfold Inn many times. It is one of our favourites in the local area. For the first time we came away disappointed with our experience. The beef wellington was difficult to cut, the desert (rhubarb choux) was tasteless and the sparkling wine was not cool enough. To be fair to the staff, they were apologetic and addressed the matter there and then. Just a shame though, as the Lickfold has always delivered first rate food, beautifully presented. Everyone has an off day, so we will be returning.
Some serving staff acted as though they were there to drop the food on the table ie no service / no interest in ensuring that guests enjoyed a pleasurable experience in what has the potential to be a very good restaurant. Whilst the Valentines Dinner menu was well thought out and appealing, delivery was spoilt by the Beef Wellington. It was the toughest beef 'fillet' that I've ever experienced in many years travelling the world and again not helped by the serving thereof.
We enjoyed an excellent Valentine's Day dinner on this, our first visit to the Lickfold Inn. Prosecco and oysters as an aperitif was a very nice touch and each course was well-presented and delicious. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Thank you all very much. We will be back.
Excellent food, thoughtful and fun service, a gem of a restaurant all round.
Lovely ambience, great service, friendly staff, delicious food
Excellent meal. Bit pricier than most pub lunches, but the quality and presentation of the food makes it worth the slightly extra cost. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Great Service , Great Food in a lovely setting, I recommend the Lickfold Inn highly.
What has happened to The Lickfold, a place of excellence? Now there are too many choices, fish and chips, and burgers have crept onto the menu. This was always a special place to eat whether a la carte, Sundays or for casual bar snacks. Now this is lost, food mediocre and an unclear direction.
the lack of customer service as the waitress not listening and the food is awful for the price , we were paid £99 not even have standard quality of food and service !!!! The burger we ordered not even cooked properly and not even asking how we would proper medium or well down ??? Due the cooked not well we cannot eat and asking the Dog bag to take away but the waitress answered yes , we were waiting for long long time and in the end no one come and even say a sorry or explain what going on ! it’s supposed very good Christmas Sunday dinner but all the awful food and awful customer service let down !
Great evening and food. Only thing to watch is the open fire as it blew into room sometimes and as we were next to it we got a bit smokey. Otherwise do try
Overall our visit to The Lickfold Inn was good. I understand from friends that live in Lickfold that the pub has recently changed hands and I felt that was evident in that service was a bit disjointed, such as two or three members of staff asking the same questions and forgetting parts of our order etc.
However, the staff were all very friendly and nothing was a problem. The food was absolutely delicious. We will be staying down the road from this pub at Christmas and I have no doubt that we will be back there again.
Very nice staff and reception when we arrived and through the meal. Really impressed.
Beef was a bit fatty, but food generally good.
Pub was freezing, this was the main let down.
Lovely ambience and character though!!
It was a great evening, the pub was busy. They were a little understaffed but they managed to provide amazing service, the food was delicious, the wine was amazing, the staff were epic especially Ben who is an incredible waiter. The Whole night was amazing and this pub has really come alive, this is a must try! We will be coming alot more, we live very nearby so you will be seeing much more of us!
Under new management since August 2019 So forget comments / ratings prior to this date.
All staff were attentive , pleasant and ready to help. If needed.
Food was well prepared arrived as requested ( I had steak ) and full of flavour.
Not busy for a Friday eve, 14 paying guests in total which effected the overall atmosphere . Will only get better, I believe.
Best roast dinner I’ve had in a long time! Staff were friendly and attentive and everything was perfect. Only downside is they close a bit early!!!
Fantastic food, comfortable and warm atmosphere, with friendly and attentive staff. We had a superb Sunday lunch and will be returning soon.
Absolutely loved everything! Such a great find. The venue is beautiful old mixed with new, really felt very special, the food was delicious with a great selection, the wines also, the staff were very friendly and professional throughout.
Very average service.
The food was very good but did not clearly specify that the prices were subject to a 12.5% service charge. This might have been palatable but the welcome frrom the front of house duty manager or owner was borderline rude. They had not got our reservation via open table visible. The first table waiter, a young man, was excellent. But the subsequent server / waitress was remote, and inattentive to needs, so we decided to leave after only one course and found we were presented with a bill for £77.00 for this course for two people . This is excessive and wildly disproportionalte to the the food, drink and service received. Sad really as we had hoped to have a new local venue we could have recommended to our friends.
Great food from an interesting menu and decent wine list. The less than ideal bit was the service. An inadequate number of probably inexperienced staff in the restaurant and bar were struggling to cope with the number of customers. The image was not helped by a credit card machine which would only work when held up at one end of the building. Having said that , we enjoyed our meal and it should not be difficult for the owners to improve matters, if they want to.
Friendly and welcoming staff.
The food was excellent.
My only problem was that they need a clear sign for the car park as the one that is visible is mainly used by the staff and was full.
Unfortunately it seems to have slidden down a ditch! It used to be so good on every level. It was so disappointing. We weren’t even ‘allowed’ tea or coffee becuase the chef refused to let the waiter boil a kettle!!! Very odd!!
2 June 2019: We had a lovely meal and the service was excellent; before we sat down the music being played was too loud so it was switched off. Will definitely go back again.
Fantastic in every respect
The Lickfold Inn is a true gem!
The place is beautifully refurbished and feels very cozy, all the staff are very welcoming, warm and attentive and the food is just delicious.
We had the following dishes and cannot recommend them highly enough. Presentation, quality, taste...all to the highest standards and incredibly delectable.
Starters: Smoked ham hock and head terrine, onion piccalilli / Grilled mackerel, white grape, almond and tarragon
Mains: Sea bream, brown butter, shrimp, aster and capers / New season lamb rump and braised shoulder
Desserts: White chocolate panna cotta and Yorkshire rhubarb / Bitter chocolate parfait and blood orange
The recommended wines were matching the food perfectly.
A big THANK YOU to The Lickfold Inn team for this delightful experience.
Best meal I’ve had in years - surprised it wasn’t more busy in our visit
Always superb. A hidden gem on the road to nowhere, but just five mins from Petworth. Chef Graham Squire never fails to delight one’s taste buds. 10/10.
Really enjoyed our meal.
Lickfold Inn is a real gem. The perfect combination of friendly pub and gastronomic restaurant.
Food was outstanding. Service was very good but lacked atmosphere with lights continually dimming due to generator and no music
Well worth the drive from London.
The pub is tastefully and stylishly decorated with comfortable chairs and good sized tables.
The menu is relatively short with 5 choices of starter, main courses and desserts all simply described, and all sounding interesting. At a Sunday lunch, the usual suspects of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding were there in addition to the a la carte menu.
The food was delicious and well presented. The staff young, enthusiastic and efficient. I can’t wait to go again.
Worthy of a Michelin Star. The food was inspired and delicious. The service was attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. We expected a good meal and received an excellent meal.
Lick fold never fails to deliver top class food and service. Always a special meal and night out.
Excellent and knowledgable service. Duh a lovely experience and delicious food & Wine. Thank you :-)
A third visit and The Lickfold Inn doesn't disappoint. The reservation system and follow up before hand is excellent, the food, using local and regional seasonal ingredients is outstanding and the service very professional. Lingering on to chat over coffee after an excellent Sunday lunch with friends was not a problem for the management or service staff.
Best Roast Beef we have had - an absolute of a fun dance of beautiful food, amazing roasties and a perfect velvety Jus
Literally perfect from start to finish
A delightful lunch offering excellent value. Skilful cooking showcasing top notch ingredients accompanied with unobtrusive, but attentive service. We were the only diners - people just don’t know what they’re missing!
2nd time at the Lickfold Inn and still an amazing place to eat. The restaurant is located on the first floor. Limited number of tables, cozy atmosphere, small number of dishes to choose from but all ingredients are fresh, well chosen and tasteful ! If you have been to Story in Bermondsey, London, you can definitively recognize some of Tom Sellers influence. Worth stopping for lunch or dinner after or before a visit at National Trust Petworth House !
