Why do people go to restaurants ? There are a lot of answers to that question but For most people its service and good food. I'm no different except for the occasional laziness of not wanting to cook and clean up. Justin case you are wondering about the Market Place Restaurant , it didn't crack on any high notes. From the greeting to desert the service and attention was outstanding to say the least. By the way in the restaurant business is also the hospitality business. Good service makes the food taste better and the prices always fair and unnoticeable. Not necessarily the case at the Market Place the food Quality and prices held on their own merit. Fresh quality local product, and very excellent prices.
Service, Service, Service. Will make us return.
My name is Joseph but the waitress didn't have to know my name and she didn't.
Our server Katrina did a great job in describing all the food and providing a great experience for us. The food was nicely presented and lots of great variety. Everything was fresh and delicious.
We had an excellent waiter very attentive and had some great suggestions especially with my special requests. We celebrated our 40th anniversary! We actually came here a couple days before for lunch and was so impressed With the exceptional service and fresh, flavorful, dishes thatwe came back for dinner!
Always top knotch!
Went with friends. Had wonderful service. They were impressed. First time in Asheville.
This is our go to place and we have been several times through the past year, big enough to allow separation, good food, good service, the wine list was rewarding too... we have had drinks there in the past and found decent, or above average mixology.... like Market...
Extraordinary food. Definitely one of the best in Asheville.
The food was fine but the portion sizes didn’t match up with the cost. I ordered a $12 salad and asked for chicken - had a $6 upcharge for about 2 oz of chicken on a side salad, meaning $18 for a small meal.
We were excited to try this restaurant. It had fabulous reviews and all of our food in Asheville had exceeded expectations up to this point.
The ambiance is cute and the house made limoncello were the highlights.
My husband ordered the pork shoulder and I ordered the lamb pappardelle.
His pork came out grossly overdone. The flavor had potential but we couldn’t get past the sear beyond recognition for a cut that should fall apart. My pappardelle was coated in zero sauce with no flavor. I thought that it would be coated in a sauce but the pesto was more of a garnish as was the lamb. It was basically a plate full of naked, flavorless noodles with some lamb and pesto barely thrown on the plate. The manager did recognize this, took away the plates and removed them from the bill. She asked if they could make it right by a redo, but our faith in their ability to do so was gone. We opted to leave hungry. Maybe it was an off night, but we won’t be back. Too many other great restaurants.
One of our favorite places to eat in Asheville.
It’s nearly 40 years. Eating at the market Place restaurant, in Asheville. Over two locations and as many owners, this is consistently one of our towns best restaurants. Take the opportunity to partake in a local Asheville dining institution.
Had the special pork bellies . Food tasted great!! Portion size a little small for the price. Probably could add a little more vegetable weight without adding too much prep cost.
My husband and I visited for my birthday dinner. We both enjoyed our meals and the ambiance of the restaurant. Our server was great (as well as the entire staff from the food runners to the hostess and bartender.) We would definitely come back next time we’re in Asheville.
We loved this place! The food was amazing! I had the scallops and loved every bite! Rob, our server, was perfect in his pacing. The charcuterie board and pea fritters were awesome as a first course. I would highly recommend this place!
The restaurant was nice enough inside. We arrived a bit early but were seated promptly. The PEI muscles were excellent and the lamb shank was good. My wife had the trout and it was OK. Our biggest disappointment was probably the waiter, who we found to be quite stuffy. We both felt the restaurant was overpriced for what they delivered.
Staff was very friendly, food was generally very good and well presented. Nice wine list. However, kitchen was having some problems. Food came out for half our party 15 minutes before the rest. One person’s chicken wasn’t done, but to management’s credit they apologized profusely and gave a credit on the bill.
I loved this restaurant!! I really liked that it was clearly high quality ingredients, with a great connections to local farms. The quality of the food and service was incredible, but at the same time, it felt relaxed, comfortable, and not too formal to the point of being stiff or uninviting. I had a lamb shank special that the server recommended and holy cow was it good.
On a girls' trip to Asheville, this was our first night. We sat on the patio and shared small plates and entrees. Our server was super nice, our cocktails were fresh, inventive and lovely. Every dish we shared was delicious. I liked that portions were reasonable as well.
Another great evening proves William Dissen’s wonderfully seasonal and truly local food and hospitality continues to make the Marketplace a significant restaurant-and the rabbit tortellini was the essence of an early summer evening! Such a fine night!
The brunch was just so so. The drink menu is terrific with something for everyone with beer, wine and liquor drinks. Nothing gluten free. Nothing tasted fresh. We have eaten here before and the food was terrific. Maybe a bad day? Not sure what else to say.
Terrible food experience, great service and restaurant. But not worth it at all. Everything we got was bad.. wouldn’t recommend to anyone, so many good places to visit in Asheville don’t waste time going to this restaurant.
We were visiting Asheville for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday. We found this restaurant on Open Table and made a reservation as soon as we arrived at our hotel. The food was excellent. The wine was excellent. The service was excellent. We sat upstairs in an area usually reserved for private dining. We plan to return on our next visit to Asheville.
The food was really bland and not that great. Unfortunately it really ruined an otherwise nice evening. We will not be coming back.
Market salad bland, limp lettuce, dressing flavorless. Trout and tuna excellent, pappardelle/lamb very good, rabbit tortellini tough.
Outstanding lamb pappardelle. So flavorful and perfect portion size.
The staff was friendly and accommodating to my last minute request to switch from a high top to a standard table. Food was delicious. We had the trout, lamb pappardelle, and pea fritters. The fritters are an absolute must! High recommend.
It was fine.
Excellent food! Love the location and everything we ordered was delicious
From the moment we walked in to the time we left the service was excellent.
Our server was extremely cordial and helped us extensively with our food and wine selections.
The meals were well proportioned and beyond our expectations.
We would highly recommend this restaurant when in Asheville.
Hands down the best meal we had in Asheville. We will definitely be back!
My dish arrived cold and was unremarkable. My mother's potatoes were not cooked. She did get another dish of potatoes, but sad that she had to do so for a $40 entre. We ordered a scoop of vanilla-basil ice cream for dessert, turned out to be plain vanilla and served in a hot dish, thus mostly melted.
Service was great and the food was delicious. It would be a challenge to find better farm to table food anywhere. Flavors were great and our waiter was fantastic!
This is a place I would revisit again and again! Service 100% fantastic. Food is prepared to the finest quality.
Last night was a wonderful 45th Anniversary experience in food and service from our server Vanessa. Tourist season was in full swing with folks from everywhere, but these two locals could not have been better treated to superb food and service.
Market Place seems to know how to retain a high quality staff as staffing did not appear to be a problem even with a full house.
We won’t wait for our 46th Anniversary to dine there again.
The biscuits and gravy were amazing!!!!
Disappointing...after seeing in our state magazine I was so excited about going but then burnt biscuits in my gravy and biscuits and super salty bacon it was a let down! Best thing was the bloody Mary’s but if I want to eat I’m headed to early girl...😞
Food is as outstanding!
Perfect service attentive but not overly attentive.
We dined here over Memorial Day Weekend. To drink, I got a California Sauvignon Blanc, which I enjoyed, and my husband got two different reds, one of which he sent back and the second he drank, but said it was not very good and tasted cheap. To start, we got the charcuterie board and the spring pea fritters, both of which were tasty. For entrees, I got the trout which was cooked well, but lacked flavor. My husband got the rabbit tortellini which we heard good things about, but the pasta was incredibly undercooked and the sauce had no flavor. While we had good service, overall the food was not great and the decor could desperately use an upgrade. We would not come back here.
Never disappoints very good food and staff. …………..
Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Unfortunately, it was surprisingly cold the night we opted to eat outside. Service excellent--food good, but small portions.
Best chocolate brownie ever!
