The Marsh Tavern @ Equinox

We were staying at the Equinox hotel for the first time and we were excited to eat at The Marsh Tavern. The menu sounded great and the history of the place very appealing. When we arrived there was only one host working and she seemed very over worked and had to wait a little to get seated. She then could not find our reservation she said but sat us anyway. We were immediately impressed by our waiter Billy. He addressed us by Mr & Mrs "last name" and was extremely friendly. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive while we were placing our drink and dinner orders. The bread service came with several types of bread, wonderful VT butter and a lovely pepper jam, and also some mandarin oranges that seemed out of place but I really enjoyed. We each ordered a soup to start, the french onion and corn chowder. Neither was very hot, especially the corn chowder. The french onion was in a regular bowl, not a traditional crock, a small crouton and one slice of melted but not browned cheese on top, it was only ok. The corn and bacon chowder would probably have been better if it was hotter, but is also seemed to lack some seasoning. For entrees we ordered the shepherds pie and a special Black Pasta with Lobster. The shepherds pie was a very generous serving with multiple kinds of meat and topped with sweat potatoes. It was a nice and a different take then the traditional, as the waiter had explained, and was probably the best course of the evening. I was very excited for the black pasta with lobster, when I ordered it the waiter did say that it was a little spicy, and that got me even more excited for it. I like hot things but the spice was just too much. Not too much for me to eat it, though many would find it so, too much to really enjoy the flavors. I could not really even taste the lobster and the black pasta under the intensity of the hot peppers. When we were finished it had gotten busy and took a while for the check...
Be sure to get a reservation even if they say you don't need one.. The service was painfully slow. The chief tried very hard to have unique options. Some really liked their food, others did not.
Hostess was inattentive to everyone waiting, despite reservations. Waitress was much better but disappointed to not feel more “welcomed” from the start.
Mediocre food compared to Red Fox Inn
We needed to ask for a server to come to our table.... entrees took more than an hour to arrive. Our server claimed it was the kids pizza holding things up...... the kids Pizza could have been cooked in a microwave....adult entrees were sub par given the price. The $38 steak frites amounted to four bites of steak and all in (with wine for 2) we paid more than $300! Not a happy customer!
This place is delicious and classy. Its always a great time!
The food was mediocre and overpriced. The Kale salad was very good, but the kale should have been broken into smaller pieces. Our entrees were served cold, especially the mashed potato with the meatloaf and the chicken pot pie, which was flavorful, but the temperature ruined it. And, to top it off, I returned the first one which was cold and the replacement came out just as cold!
Very disappointing for the $100 bill! Two nights later we ate a much more delicious meal locally for 1/2 the price!!
Everything is really good except the prices, which are high.
Great Meatloaf the soups were also very good. highly recommend the Shepard's pie
Chris our server was a true professional
We were having dinner and my husband wasn’t feeling well. The staff went above and beyond trying to accommodate him. Kudos to all for making what could have been a miserable time, and turning it into a very memorable evening filled with kind people!
Inedible prime rib
Served raw
Returned from kitchen pan fried
Terrible
Ruined New Years
The “club” chairs that we sat in were horrible for eating! And the area was dirty. I had to put my coat on the floor to cover a vent that was sending up freezing air. Our waitress was very nice!
Expensive, loud, poor quality food. I really would have expected more for the price.
I never leave reviews, but felt the need to let people know that the marsh tavern is a poor choice for dining. Seek somewhere else to eat in Manchester, VT.
There were lots of children who parents let them run wild thru out the restaurant and bar area. Not conducive to an enjoyable occasion.
I enjoy lunch at the Marsh Tavern! The grilled cheese and tomato soup is delicious!!!!
We three older women got considerably poorer service than other diners. The male server (who never introduced himself) simply forgot to bring my cocktail. After twenty minutes I had to flag down another restaurant worker to ask for it. (Our server had been missing in action for the whole time). During the meal, the server did not once come to check on us. I would have liked to order another drink but that wasn’t happening. The server ignored us when I tried to get his attention. Nobody came to refill our water glasses until the plates had literally been cleared from the table. Its insulting to be ignored by the server, especially when he is getting chummy with the group of six who just sat down.
After the poor service, I didn’t care about the food. Being treated so poorly had left a bad taste in my mouth.
Filled with families with children so not quiet and intimate. Great atmosphere. We love going there each year. Food delicious. Only had one server who was a bit too fast with less grace accompanying his speed!
Thanksgiving dinner with 3 drinks $150 plus tip. $36 turkey dinner sent back because it was warm, when returned it was cooler than what I had sent back. Buy now my wife is almost done with her dinner. Never did anyone offer hot gravy or a complimentary drink. There are better places Manchester.
Laura our server was so accommodating and charming. She was so pleasant and enhanced the dining experience.
The bread basket presentation was so creative. The pepper gel was so tasty and I would love to slather, yes, slather it on everything.
The tater tots appetizer was inventive and the blue cheese sauce was tangy and delicious accompanied by a House made ketchup that was not overly sweet and a great addition to the dish.
Enjoyed a wonderful grilled cheese sandwich witha sumptuous tomato soup for dipping and a side salad of mixed greens with sharp blue cheese crumbles to top it off.
A well brewed cup of decaf and a scoop of homemade chocolate ice cream topped off a most memorable evening.
Was not seated on time. Staff seems unfriendly. Good was awful.
Ambience was wonderful at this restaurant. However, the service was slow. Our server explained that they were expecting a wedding at the hotel they canceled at the last minute somehow this meant that they expected less traffic in the dining room and had fewer servers. The food was pretty good the value was less so. We would dine again for sure but will leave plenty of time.
Nice atmosphere , nice servers. Very nice food. I had chicken pot pie and it was a nice size for me.
I had so many expectations from this place. This was my first time in Vermont and I was recommended the place. The hostess kept on looking at me up and down like she was better than me. When we got to the table the waitress was rushing me to finish my dinner and the lettuce on my husband’s burger was not fresh and the brown was sticking out the burger. Then when she came to find out how the food was my husband explained to her why he was displeased about the burger she was very dismissive. Overall, I was not happy with the palace.
We had a great anniversary dinner! The food was great and setting perfect for our celebration.
Good was meh. Everything else was just fine.
The atmosphere was nice and the servers were very pleasant and helpful but the food was nothing special.
Lovely meal in historic tavern. My friend was in New England from CA during foliage season, and the Marsh Tavern was the icing on the cake after climbing Bromley. Our server (so sorry to not mention her by name) was fabulous. Great food, perfect setting. Will be back for sure.
We were very disappointed. We have dined here various times over the past 15 years and our latest experience on 10/12/19 was horrible. The restaurant appeared to be seriously over-booked and the kitchen was missing in all aspects. We waited over an hour between appetizers waiting for our meals, staff made excuse after excuse as to why our meals were not coming out. The table next to us were seated about 30 minutes after us and when their meals were delivered before ours, we were done !
I am not one of those intolerant people, but I can’t even think of when we last got up and walked out of a restaurant, but that is exactly what happened at Marsh Tavern. Sad !
Great. Food was very good and waitress was extremely helpful. Drinks were excellent but very pricey.
Hostess was totally horrendous! Made people wait for no reason.
weve had lunch here many times and good but dinner was disappointing. while cocktails were good the entrees were small and not worthy of the price. very little lobster in my lobster fettuccini.
Perfect pub food and abound with history at fabulous Equinox Resort
Ordered a wage steak for $40.00
It was full of gristle, very small piece.
People very nice and the service was excellent but the food was very disappointing. Wife had the chicken pot pie. Instead of a crust or pastry cover like in a traditional one, this had the top half of a biscuit that maybe covered one fourth of the bowl. The burnt looking and tasting bottom half of the biscuit was hidden in the bottom of the bowl. The gravy was pretty much tasteless. I had the shepherd's pie. That lacked flavor also. The characteristic flavor of this dish is the worcestershire sauce flavored gravy. I would have to say none was used because none was detected - bland also. The most enjoyable parts of the experience were chatting with the hostess, extremely courteous and professional servers and the atmosphere of sitting outside at a table on a covered porch on a weather perfect evening.
Service was amazing, food was better! Loved every moment.
The service was very bad. It took the first server over 15 minutes to stop by the table and then 5 minutes later we actually had another server show up and when we told him someone came by he said they were taking money out of his pocket. The experience did not improve from that point on. Make a different choice.
Friendly service and good food!
Exceptionally poor lighting for the handicapped entrance. Pretty; but treacherous for someone with mobility challenges.
We had the Tavern Fare which was pretty good. The salads were fine, the only suggestion being that the Kale Salad which we had was swimming in dressing - a subtler flavor would have been much better. Strawberry Salad and the Squash Blossoms were very good. We had the Sheperd’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie for entrees, neither of which came we’re served hot - just a bitter hotter than lukewarm. We sent them back to be heated up. They were still not quite hot enough when reserved but we plowed in. The Shepherds Pie was over spiced, needs to be subtler. The Chicken Pot Pie had a bit of a Camry taste. But, all in all, pretty good and I’d go back and try some other selections next time.
Our waitress, Sharon Green, was outstanding.
