The Olde Bar
Food was excellent, but I had been looking forward to lobster and they were out by 7:30. A seafood restaurant should not be out of lobster, at least not so early. Severely short-staffed, service was very slow.
Food was great, especially the happy hour menu. The service made the experience even better. Would definitely go back again.
Have dined here twice before. Service always very good. Food very good. Space is large which is nice. No crowding. Oysters were outstanding!
Bar and drinks were good. Cool old place. Happy hour oysters were good. Dinner entrees were really pretty bad. Had a half Maine lobster that was way over cooked and was the size of a prawn. Lobster roll was a little better, but I could have eaten 3 of them. Not great value or quality for the food. Come for happy hour drinks and oysters, and go someplace else for dinner.
Disappointing. Basically a bar food menu. Should have checked into more before booking. A ton of great French fries but not much else to rave about. When we arrived couldn’t find our reservation. Determined they had somehow seated another party under our reservation.
The charming setting, the attentive service, and the well-prepared food contributed to a wonderful evening.
Great ambience, fantastic choice for happy hour.
We really enjoyed The Olde Bar. It has a very "old Philly " ambience as it is the original bar room of the legendary Bookbinders. Food was very good. Service was terrific from the time we walked in the door. Every staff member was friendly and attentive. If we lived in the neighborhood we'd be back once a week.
Our visit to the Olde Bar was great we had excellent appetizers from the Buffalo Cauliflower to Delaware Bay Oysters which were so fresh and Briny, then onto main dishes finishing with Strawberry/ cheesecake Shortcake.
We had an awesome happy hour at the Olde Bar and would definitely go again. All the food was amazing, and the service was great.
The crab finger is something special. Should try it.
Great place to visit. Good seafood!
Dining here wasn’t as good as I hoped. Very chaotic from the beginning of our arrival. Staff running around with no good flow. No one seemed to be in charge. Wine extremely overpriced. Asked for glasses of house white $8.00 and the house red $14.00, waitress stated that’s the cheapest red wine they serve! Wow!! Too much time lapsed between appetizer and meal. We weren’t checked on to see if we liked our meals after they were “dropped off” by a random wait staff or asked if we wanted another cocktail. Which at that price for red wine I wouldn’t have, but servers are to ask. Our water glasses remained empty and weren’t refilled until I finally was able to flag someone down and get the check. Water was refilled after the check arrived. Sloppy service. Music way too loud and obnoxious.
Service was slow but it was fine since we were not in a hurry....I had heard they were short on staff at the time we went. Food was just ok. The room off from the bar area was quiet and perfect.
The valentines pre fix menu was not good and no one advised of the prefix when we made the reservation. Very tight uncomfortable seating packed for extra tables for vday made the vibe cramped and tacky. Out of several bottles of liquor stating “we’ve been out of that for weeks”. Not sure what’s happening here.
Didnt like how it was a fixed menu for vday. Overall great seafood, nice place. Waiters take a lil bit to get ur order so be ready to have some patience.
I was disappointed that they had a prix fix menu but then again it was Valentine’s Day since I wanted to try their menu but I have to say that even though the food was great and service excellent as well. Love the ambience and old school feel of the place!
Nothing to say other than absolutely amazing dining experience.
The food was delicious. Reminded me of the best of bookbinders restaurants. Clubby feel. Great bar and booths
We had an 8pm reservation on a Saturday night. It took the restaurant 20 minutes to seat us and then they were out of half of their menu by the time we ordered. Service was slow, terrible, and unapologetic for the inventory issues.
Great happy hour cocktails! and the seafood is always top notch. the atmosphere is old rustic bar that could have been around for decades and it has been. love showing this place off to out of town friends.
Food was outstanding. Oysters were on point!!
BEST Happy Hour spot. Incredible bar service and food. STRONGLY recommend.
Amazing happy hour snacks and drinks.
Food was excellent!! However the service was not good, waitress was not engaged in what she was doing and management/host was also disengaged and not friendly at all. They sat us in back at very small table for two people who are over 6 foot tall, also did not ask if we enjoyed our meal or time there when we were leaving instead was rude when I sat my to go bag down on a table to put my coat on. Certainly would be 5 star overall and recommendable if not for that.
It was just OK..I think they gave me salmon Instead of red snapper....crab fingers were a little little dry... drinks came out after meal
It was restaurant week. We did the $35 prefixe. It was amazing. The server was very knowledgeable. Can’t wait to go back.
Thanks for your review! We'll be happy to see you again. Cheers. Jef Andruscavage General Manager
The food was delicious from soup to nuts. The place was a little noisy, and since it was winter, when the door was opened for people to come in and out, and since we were sitting in the bar area in a booth, we got a cold blast, even though we were more than half way into the room. The booth could have been bigger--it was cramped a bit in width-could have had more legroom and space between my belly and the table. Because of that, felt a little pricey for "bar food", not because it was the usual bar food, but because we were sitting in a bar area. There was a room next to it that was more restaurant like, and when I go again, which I will, I'll try to sit in that room. Overall a good experience and one I'll repeat.
Went for restaurant week because their lobster roll is on the menu. Had oysters, roll and strawberry shortcake. All were pretty good but the “traditional” roll is not really traditional. Hot peppers, lettuce?? Too much mayo.
Best part were the fries that came with my husband’s red snapper.
The waitress seemed new but was very nice but not very good. We started out with these crab fingers which were really good. She got the drink order wrong. I ordered blacken snapper which was undercooked and almost raw in the middle. I told the waitress and she said it was a fatty fish and that's how it's supposed to be. The manager walked around and I showed him the fish and he apologized and said he would get me a new fish. It took a long time. My date had the crab cakes which weren't very good. By the time my new fish came back it was decent but it did take a long time and kind of ruined the meal. They comp the fish they should have comped us a lot more. Would not go back here
Abosutley horrible experience we walked out after waiting 25 mins to be served drinks. Will never go back.
Good food but limited menu
Funny Staff members and excellent food! Try the BBQ Shrimp POBOY and thank me later!
Nice and quiet room, even with the football game on, we could still have a normal conversation
My experience was OK+. I had the cod that d consisted of two skimpy pieces. I also had the clam chowder. There were very few clam pieces and what I had were like rubber and I gave up chewing and just swallowed them. Bread rolls were provided at additional cost and were hard the point of crunchy. Overall, It appears this establishment is trading on the historic Bookbinders reputation and little else. I doubt I will go back during future visits to Philly.
We loved the Olde Bar. The food was both familiar and unique. The decor really set the mood and the drinks were some of the best in the city. We also got engaged there, which was exciting too.
The service was very transactional with not much of a compliment to the price tag.
Food and service was excellent. Great atmosphere too.
IT IS NOT IN ANY WAY. BOOKBINDERS
Service was slow. Cocktails small. My son had a tuna steak that turned out to be a half inch thick, dry , tuna pancake. My Dad’s crab cake was tough and dry. Turtle soup was good. Would not recommend. I think this is more of a tourist trap using the Bookbinder’s name. Very disappointed.
