The Overcliff Pub
set in a older hotel (nice, though) with older clientele so we felt a bit out of place. The receptionist was dealing with a customer and didn't seem to have enough knowledge to answer questions and the pub didn't have confirmation of our booking but they were helpful and nice. We bought dinner on a groupon deal so was great value for money but I wouldn't pay full price. The soft drinks were terribly expensive
I booked this table as a special occasion as I was going away to uni for the next 2 months and won’t see my boyfriend so we thought we’d make it special and try something new so, we booked a table. On arrival we couldn’t get in at all and read a sign saying that they were closed for the weekend due to an event! I am very disappointed !
Lovely Christmas meal very friendly staff great food beautiful view!
Even though I booked a table online 48 hours in advance online. On the day of the booking I phoned to enquire about parking, only to be told the pub was shut that night!! No apology or explanation
I mentioned to the staff that we had booked a table. All of which seemed really confused and surprised when I told them online. We were then told to find a seat anywhere but hurry because the kitchen was about to close. They take online table bookings until 8:45 and we were told this at 8:30pm. A lovely trainee had then served us, she was lovely but when asking colleagues for help was completely ignored. I really felt for her.
The food was good, just after having her meals served to us we wanted coleslaw to be told we couldn't as the kitchen was closed. Had I asked for another meal I would understand but 30 seconds after being served no one can get coleslaw?
I am sure had we gone another night we might have had a much nicer experience but on this occasion I was not impressed.
First time I have been to the Suncliff. Apart from misinformation about parking the evening was lovely. Nice atmosphere, window seat. Food was well presented and tasty, disappointed that there were no desserts, but enjoyed a coffee instead.
Set at the front of the Suncliff hotel the Overcliff pub is set in a beautiful location with superb views of the Bournemouth coast. The bar has a good selection of drinks with friendly staff. The food Menu all though not big has a nice selection of food that is great value for money and was quickly delivered to the table . The food was excellent and the staff were attentive and polite. We also had the bonus of live music in the pub the evening we stayed which also was very good and the singer sang a wide range of songs.
My only complaint was dispite booking a table on line we struggled to find a table upon arrival and had to seat a table of four around a small table after finding a spare chair, dispite this we had a lovely evening and a great meal and would recommend the overcliff to anybody staying in the hotel or local area.
What a lovely view and wonderful seating area , the bar staff quick and smiling I think the young lady that served us on several occasions was Isobell the German language student , a credit to the team will definitely return when down the south coast .
Its a place we go to often for a lovely Sunday lunch
Was expecting a delightful venue overlooking the sea but unfortunately the views were patchy at best. The venue was without any ambience and seemed to be frequented by those staying at the hotel. The menu was staid and the décor tired. The staff seemed to have little to no interest in patrons entering or leaving. The place is not without potential. A little investment could make this a venue worth venturing to but alas right now tis not worth the journey.
Very poor service. We were a group of 4, two had to wait over 5 minutes for their meals to arrive after the other 2. I had to ask where they’d got to. Pie was cheap pre-packed and not home cooked.
Dish assortment was all breaded- didn’t say this on the menu. Very disappointing. Will not be returning.
Had a fab night of entertainment with the irrepressible Matt Black, Piano man. Food was ok,we both had the Beefburger, but nothing special. Drinks were good value and not too pricey for a Hotel. Would recommend and will visit again.
. I booked a table by the window. At least two weeks in advance went up to the bar to order my drinks and was informed that my table was waiting for me and had a reserved ticket on it. It was a fantastic evening. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The view was excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you.
Restaurant didn't get booking through Opentable, so we had to help set our own table up. Bit dark once sun had gone down. One of food orders went back as the pie was hard, but good replacement with sausages instead. Self service although waiter/waitresses dealt with very good. Sizeable food portions, and huge ones for kids.
Very enjoyable meal prior to our theatre trip.
Excellent price, attentive staff
Booked a table for 20.45. Arrived and stated I booked. Staff didn’t seem to know what I meant by “hi I’ve booked a table for 8.45” once they worked it out I was told pretty abruptly that the kitchen closed at 21.00 and that I needed to be quick ordering. Left the restaurant without sitting down.
The place looked tatty from the moment we entered
The bar was deserted apart from two other couples
We had drinks on arrival but they were so expensive
Sky sports golf was on the big screens but we would have liked a bit of music because it was my fiances birthday meal
We sat near the front window but it was drafty and we had to keep our coats on for the entire meal.
The starters were reasonable for the price
The mains came quick but the chips were cold and looked anemic in colour.
We didn't stay for sweets or coffee because we just wanted to go home
We wont be dining at this place ever again
IT WAS MORE LIKE A POOR MAN'S BUTLINS rather than and east cliff restaurant/pub
What a shame. we expected a lot more for our money and Tripadvisor reports
I am sorry to say The food was very boring. The veggie burger was not very hot. Chips ok but not great. Horrible coleslaw. Disappointing!
Great staff and service. Food was perfect. A great end to our holiday. We wish we had been there sooner
Was good value for money, nice friendly attentive staff. Good service straightforward dining experience.
I had booked a table for 14 as an end of year thank you to my staff who work for me, arrived at 5.45 and the hotel had been shut down with no notification from You or them.
Complete disaster and ruined a plannned night out for my team.
I will never use this booking app or that pub unless I am compensated in some way
As we had booked months before the date then to get rung up on the night to be told our table was cancelled as somebody had booked the whole place .as we had travelled from south wales you can understand our disappointment and to be told hope we were ok with it obviously wont be going back
Excellent value. Very friendly atmosphere. Good value for money
We (4 people) ate at the Overcliff Pub on a Wednesday lunchtime. We were the only people in the entire place. The starters arrived promptly and were quite acceptable and good portions. Unfortunately the main course took ages to arrive - considering that we were the only orders this was surprising & disappointing. When it did arrive the food was, well, okay. Nothing special really. We won't be eating there again.
Very good value, food excellent.
My one son who is very fussy had the Cod and chips said best ever had and I have to agree with him it was outstanding, batter on cod lovely and crispy cod light and fluffy same as chips done to perfection.
Really good helpful service, bar staff excellent.
Thanks for a lovely me meal if my boys and I ever back in Bournemouth will go again.
Well cooked food and generous portions. My only slight criticism is that the conservatory gets very hot in the sunshine and I could not open the window behind our table. Would definitely come again.
The nicest carvery I've ever had. Especially amazing for the low price. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Lovely food with great sea views.
Nice location, venue and staff make this a great place to visit. Service and food was all expected and an enjoyable meal had - many thanks.
My son and I dined at The Overcliff Pub on Saturday evening. The only good thing we could think about the experience was the view of the sea. The service was dire, food just about edible, there was no atmosphere and the whole bill came to £39.50. Will definitely not be returning and do not recommend.
We booked it last minute as we arrived late at our hotel nearby and didn't want to walk far as I have health issues.
We wernt disappointed.
We ate here twice. On Friday evening, we had fish and chips and it was excellent with very good service. We returned on Sunday and the very friendly staff, unfortunately, gave pretty poor service. One of our main courses failed to materialise until the staff were reminded. They were very apologetic but then the same thing happened with coffee! Once we had our food, it was very good.
