It was Awesome! We loved the screened in porch with throws if cool. Food was so delicious! We’re still raving about it to all our friends!! It’s a must visit when in the area!!
Great experience! Food was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the friendly service (Thanks, Kate!) and cozy porch setting. Will DEFINITELY be back.
FYI: the place REALLY gets busy, so highly recommend reservations. We went on a Monday as soon as they opened at 5:00pm and waiting line was out the door by the time we left
Again, a great dinner! Thank you! All that staff including the owner was hospitable and friendly!
Enjoyed the music. Mosquitoes at outdoor seating were the only problem.
The Owl never disappoints. The food is fresh, carefully prepared with a distinctive flair. We love that many of the ingredients come directly from their garden. Their fish is absolutely the freshest. We look forward to dining there every summer.
Very unique decor, cozy, outstanding food, friendly staff
We enjoyed being there and the food was very good.
Owner was very friendly.
Liked being on the screen porch.
Great food, wonderful service . Quiet setting in the beautiful Adirondack Park!
On the pricey side, but the food was stellar. They make a mean margarita!
Great food, fun and inviting atmosphere, neat ambience halfway between restful and hip. A destination...and worth it.
We had a wonderful dinner. Mark, the proprietor, was very attentive as was our server. The meal was delicious. We enjoyed ourselves very much and recommend The Owl at Twilight to everyone.
Excellent food..,Mark and staff are great. Highly recommend the Cauliflower appetizer!
We went on a Friday night at 7:30, with a reservation. We were seated right away, in the dining room. We did wait a little while for the waitress to take our drink order, but food came out promptly. We had the scallop seviche for our appetizer, which was very good. My husband had the chipotle peach ribs, which he found slightly dry, and the spice level was too mild for his liking. I had the catch of the day (grouper) which was very moist, it came with rice which was very dry, and some summer veggies, which were ok. The margaritas were delicious.
Very nice dining experience, intimate setting, very attentive service, patio seating is great if you don’t need AC, focused menu options with very large servings, worth trying the desserts.
Our first time here! We had a romantic dinner...food was exceptional!
Overall 3 stars because the ambiance of dining room we were in (front part) was so-so due to the darkness of the drawn curtains and plain decor. The food was delicious overall - the kale caesar was excellent, the swordfish as a main dinner was phenomenal, and almond cake for dessert was also very unique and amazingly tasty! As with most places these days, the wait staff seemed rushed and stressed. Thus, despite excellent food, the overall experience was a bit disappointing. The back dining area looked much nicer.
Wasn't a great experience. Sea bass was tasteless. Other entrees overpriced.
The menu is varied but sophisticated. The food is very well cooked, very tasty and fresh. The ambience of the outside porch is very pleasing. The service is efficient and the waiters are courteous and knowledgeable. We recommend making reservations. The restaurant is well located and it is easy to park, either in the front or the side. Altogether an outstanding experience.
This is an awesome place! Great food and the owner is really friendly and nice!
Our server was unenthusiastic. She told us the fish special was no longer available because they ran out of fish. Miraculously they found more fish and were offering it to other diners 10 minutes after we placed our order. My dish was good but my husband's ribs were the fattiest he's ever had. The restaurant is nothing special. We were extremely disappointed.
We keep our fresh fish in ice. The Chef tries to keep an accurate count of the fish however the fish was under the ice so the Chef at first did not see it. When she found it she let the staff know more was available. Simple as that. No need to read into it. The ribs are one of our top selling dishes for a reason and the Chef's favorite so she takes pride in that dish. If a rare one was fatty the guest should have mentioned it and a different one with less fat would have come out immediately.
Our first time at the Owl. We had a great time. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We sat on the porch which was very nice. The restaurant had a solid wine list. The food was excellent. I had the duck special which was especially good, as was the cheesecake. We will definitely return.
Went expecting to enjoy the evening and have an exceptional meal. We weren't disappointed. Dinner was outstanding. Wait staff was attentive and efficient and is a candidate for Johnsburg Town Council. We'll be back soon.
Ribs were excellent! Roasted cauliflower very good !
The mussels with tomato and chorizo were AMAZING!
Cauliflower with lemon cream sauce - FABULOUS!!
Baby back ribs - DELICIOUS!!
If it weren't for the watermelon salad, I would have given this 5 stars. All the food was really delicious except the watermelon and spinach salad, which hardly had any watermelon in it (a handful sprinkled on top), and the watermelon was not freshly cut. I am certain that the watermelon had been cut more than a day before, and likely 3 days before, since the restaurant had been closed the 2 days immediately prior to our reservation. I would have expected to have a piece of watermelon in just about every bite, but the watermelon was gone very quickly, so most of the bites consisted of spinach, red onions, and pistachios.
The highlight of the meal for me was the cherry pie, made from cherries on the tree we were looking at from our seat on the porch. Both the filling and the crust were delicious. I also really loved the cauliflower appetizer, which was perfectly roasted and had a nice creamy sauce with it.
Another disappointment was that 2 items on the menu were unavailable due to a "coconut milk shortage." While one of the dishes, the mussels, had an alternative preparation offered, the other one, the seafood stew, had no alternative, which was especially disappointing for a diner who doesn't eat meat, and therefore had few options available.
We had a nice surprise upon our arrival, as there was live music in the backyard. We started with cocktails in the backyard, then moved to a table on the screened porch. The live music (singer with guitar, acoustic music from the 60s & 70s) added nice ambience.
Best Restaurant in the Schroon lake area.
Mark is always very accommodating and the wait staff is great.
Food is generally outstanding.
The NY Strip is a fantastic steak at the Owl, and the catch of the day is always a nice variety.
I have been at the Owl at Twilight several times this season. Mark, Sue and the staff were great again. With out a doubt if your look for a 5 star restaurant in the Adirondack’s. The Owl at Twilight is it.
The owl at twilight never disappoints! Food is always delicious! Mark and his staff are wonderful!
Staff was very accommodating in getting us seated although we never sat until after 8 PM for a 7:00 PM reservation. Upon finishing our meal and preparing to depart around 9:30 PM, our server explained that the reason for the slow service was due to OpenTable reservation service allowing overbooking while they were short-staffed. Whatever the reason, it was a long night. Food was good but a bit too salty for my wife and my tastes.
Many more good than bad reviews here so may give them one more try.
Roasted cauliflower and the spinach & watermelon salad were delicious and both worthy for any mood or taste. The Boca Chia Stew was unique, rich, and satisfying, although the sweetness of coconut milk may not please everyone. The fresh catch was grouper, cooked to perfection with the right accompaniments. Decent wine list and recommendations from the owner. Bring good conversation and patience to the table - the service is not what you may be accustomed to.
It makes me sad to write this, but our evening at The Owl was pretty close to a total failure.
We arrived at 6:10 for our 6:15 reservation and Mark (owner) told us we were early (true) and said we had to wait in the bar (or front porch). We did...although there clearly were five or so empty tables in the dining room. At 6:30 we were seated and we ordered dinner (appetizers, wine, entrees). Our appetizers didn't arrive until 7:20. All around us, diners were complaining about the delays and the (cheerful) staff explained that "only Sue was in the kitchen as they couldn't get any sous chef help for her). Our appetizers were fine...Scallop Ceviche and Watermelon Salad. But when our main courses FINALLY came at 7:45, the Grouper with Aioli I had ordered had mysteriously turned into Lamb Chops with Chimichurri. The (very nice) waitress told me that my grouper would be coming, but based on the wait time for entrees, I agreed to accept the lamb which, as I had not ordered it, was woefully overcooked. Tasty but tough as nails. We didn't bother with dessert.
We had a similar LONG wait two years ago, but then (at least) the food was all wonderful so we decided to give The Owl a second chance. But not a third, for sure.
Perfect in every way!
This was the first time here in several years. Our Alaskan char meals were excellent as was the key lime mousse for dessert. Sitting on the screened porch was very pleasant. We'll go back here again, maybe even on this trip to the area.
6:30 reservations... dinner came out at 8:15. Waitress comment was that she was busy serving people on the porch. Hmmmm... people in the dining room are not as important. Also only one cook was the other comment.... maybe u shouldn't take as many reservations.
Incredible! The best fine dining in the Adirondacks. This is quite a gem and worth the trip for the amazing food (had the ribs again on this trip), great service, Adirondack ambiance on the deck - consistent top performing restaurant - the owner knows how to run a first rate place!
Been going there the past five years. Always wonderful. Every time I've been there either Mark, the owner, or Sue, the chef, will be around to chat and ask about our meal. You can't ask for more!
We love dining at the Owl at Twilight! Last night we tried the Watermelon and Spinach Salad which was very refreshing on a hot night. I ordered the Seafood Stew which has plenty of scallops, shrimp, and mussels in the coconut broth. My husband ordered the N.Y. Strip Steak and said he really enjoyed the seasoning and it was cooked just right. We did not have room for dessert, unfortunately. The wait staff is very pleasant and the owner, Mark, is right there pitching in and conversing with the diners. The screened in porch is lovely for feeling like you are outside but without the annoyance of insects. Can’t wait to return!
Always a pleasure dining here Its charming decor is delightful and the service is caring and attentive. Enjoyed wonderful cocktails and the meal was stupendous! Highly recommend as the area is light on fine dining.
Food is delicious, service is excellent , love sitting on the enclosed porch..
The menu on Open Table is not the menu offered at the restaurant. Food is inventive for the area but one of our entrees, the fish, was overcooked. Service was friendly but slow. Perhaps getting back into the groove after being closed for the winter.
Thank you for your comments. Perhaps Open Table hasn't updated the current menu I sent them as everyone is shorthanded. I apologize. Feel free to check our website as that is more up to date. Thank you for dining with us!
