The red Lion Axford
Great alfresco lunch for my father's 80th and father's day. Had a nice table in a secluded part of the garden (albeit edging onto the carpark). Nothing was too much trouble for the staff despite us being their last afternoon booking.
Quieter than I thought it was going to be for a Saturday lunchtime, but very good service. Shame the trout was undercooked, but the service was so good, it was picked up before a complaint could be made.
Have been there 3times this yer and will go again.
Only 2 other tables were occupied and it felt like the place was about to close down. The manager looked like he'd just got out of bed and didn't want to be there himself...so not a great customer experience!
We had a great time at the Red Lion Inn.
Nigel was friendly and efficient and suggested a drink in front of the fire to start with, which was welcome as it was a grey, damp day.
Then we went to our table where we had a delicious lunch. Cheese soufflé, tomatoe soup to start with, followed by fresh salmon with Hollandaise sauce, and fish pie.
Good food, we were well looked after and we had a good time.
We enjoyed our meal and felt it was good value for money.
The Red Lion was empty on the evening we visited and was hilariously awful!
We were very disappointed with the sunday lunch we had at the red lion.
I have never been served frozen roast potatoes and overcooked vegetables and thats just the start of it.
School dinner are better and bigger portions than what we were served. for £18 for two courses.
I work in catering so I do expect as good as i cook at work or a lot better when l go out to eat at these prices.
The pub looks lovely from the outside, but once in side needs updating , it was like going back in time. Shame its not updated as could be a lovely place and a cook who can cook.
This was a return visit for me but after a 10 year break. I found the place stuck in time, as nothing had changed. It is in need of an uplift.
The food could not be faulted and there was good service.
We were the only people eating and at time the only party there it was very quiet.
Overall good food but needing some TLC.
Limited menu due to busy day servive, it is an experience
meal was good quality and well cooked
wife enjoyed the mango cheesecake after her mail course although she couldn't taste the mango!
Nothing to fault but nothing to really get me back.
We dined one mid-week evening in September, which was very quiet; only one other couple there. Service was attentive and the food was excellent. You could tell real effort was put into presentation and quality. Don't be put off if you don't like fish or game; I had the confit pork belly! The building has some nice surroundings and is very well presented. Only 10 mins down the road from Marlborough, or 20 mins from Swindon. Definitely worth a visit.
This was our first visit to the Red Lion. We needed a nice venue where we could meet up with family friends for lunch - we were not disappointed.
Our hosts and the staff were charming, the quality and presentation of the food was excellent - the ambience of the Red Lion was just what we hoped for, peaceful surroundings to catch up with friends we had not seen for several years.
we really enjoyed our meal at the Red Lion. The menu has a range of quality dishes without being overwhelming. Prices are very fair for the quality of the food. A very impressive selection of fish! I chose the lemon sole as recommended by our waiter - don't usually opt for a flat fish but this was fresh in that day and it was delicious, served with a good selection of al dente vegetables and potatoes. My husband chose the pork belly, also very delicious with very edible crackling! There has been a lot of time and effort spent not only on the menu but also on the small details and general ambiance. Service was exceptional. We feel we have found a gem and will definitely go back!
The food was very nice from starter to pudding. 5 star service and situated in a nice surrounding
The Red Lion at Axford is a terrific find - gourmet dining at its best, immaculate service and surroundings. Wine list to die for - great proprietor and a wonderful dining experience
