Food is always amazing -- everything is fresh and lovely. The environment is amazing and the location is perfect! Our fave place in Charleston!
We had lunch during restaurant week and were very pleased. Both the salmon and the shrimp and grits were tasty and a little different than we'd cook at home. The portions were generous and at a nice price point. We will return.
Amazing food and service. Extremely enjoyable experience.
Food was very good, but the decor and ambiance were very outdated. This restaurant would really benefit from some new furniture and new menus, plates, etc. The food was very good, and with some new decor it could become a trendy spot.
Superb she crab soup. Excellent salmon. Pleasant and sttrntive service. A little noisy but nice ambiance with classic decoration. Having to leave the restaurant and climb down a flight of stairs and then enter a code to get to the rest rooms was far from ideal. Reminded us of places in Europe. Deserts were great.
Four of us ate lunch for restaurant week. The she crab soup is the best i’ve eaten so far in charleston. It was filled with crab and not thickened with cornstarch - perfect soup texture. The fried green tomatoes were good also. The salmon was cooked perfectly over a bed of veggies. The blackening spice for the crab cake was too salty for me but i’m particularly sensitive to salt. It was tasty once i took off the blackened layer.
Our waitress was attentive and personable.
The Swamp Fox was an unexpected delight. From the moment we were greeted at the door to when we stepped out it was an outstanding experience. Food and service were over the top!
This was a wonderful place for a downtown dinner. Lots of delicious menu choices. The She Crab soup was the best and the most authentic I have had in years - really off the chart. We went for restaurant week and loved the choices as well as the complimentary glass of wine or beer for each diner.
Wonderful service, food excellent
We had the salmon and red rice and she crab soup for appetizer. Best she crab soup in Charleston!!!
Sylvie, our server , was delightful, and made terrific recommendations.
We enjoyed our lunch at the Swamp Fox immensely!!!
IT WAS THE PERFECT EXPERIENCE! THE ROOM WAS QUIET SO YOU COULD HEAR EACH OTHER WITHOUT STRAINING. THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. AND THE FOOD! THE FOOS IS TO DIE FOR. WE COULDN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE SWAMP FOX.
We had a lovely time dining from the restaurant week menu. We arrived 25 or so minutes before our reservations and had some drinks in the classy lounge area before being shown to our table. Food came out in a timely manner and were pleased with all dishes! I had the hush puppies, salmon, and we both had the brown butter cake. My guy had the she crab soup and shrimp and grits and we each took some home! My only regret is not getting some photos of the atmosphere but I was too busy enjoying! We'll definitely be back.
Food taste was fine. Healthy entree portions and variety of menu was nice. Nothing bad, nothing super special. Had lunch about 1pm on a Tuesday. We had 1:30 reservations and got there early. No problem seating us. Our waitress, Jasmine, was exceptional. Went during restaurant week with my mom and daughter. My 13 yo thought the crowd was a bit on the elderly side. Quietly chatting, no other young persons, but if that’s an atmosphere you desire, you will be pleased. Great location.
Actually it was restaurant week and I arranged lunch for four of us. I’m fussy and somewhat picky. Swamp Fox is a place I have wanted to try for many years.
You did not disappoint! We’ll be back!!! We’re telling everyone we know what a little gem you are!! I chose the fried chicken entree and dessert, plus added the carrot soup. OMG. I’m a fried chicken freak and not usually into boneless. So yum, so moist, fried to perfection. Two ladies had the flounder and raved; third person had the crab cake. Hands down, the chocolate cake was to die for ! Oh, we liked our butter cake but that chocolatey goodness, wish I had a slice right this moment. Also, one lady ordered the Mac and cheese side for a starter and shared. It was creamy, cheesy, best ever. Top notch.
Thank you for a most enjoyable lunch out!
Our server secelia was very sweet and attentive. The food was amazing we got the carrot soup which we have never eaten before but will eat again. We can’t wait to come back and get more of the hush puppies.
Restaurant week terrific service great food
Very good food in an older grand hotel restaurant. Even though I had stayed in the hotel several times both in its glory days and in its near-bankruptcy tatters, I have never used the restaurant. I would rate it as one of the better in-hotel restaurants with a good menu and above-average food. The only irritant was the server's attempt to upsell us from the Charleston food week menu.
The food and service was excellent! The fried green tomatoes were delicious and the salmon entrée was delicious!
I typically don’t often go to restaurants inside hotels because they aren’t super exciting. This year the Swamp Fox was participating in restaurant week. We really enjoyed the experience. The menu was really fun….creative dishes that were well prepared. Would highly recommend both the she crab soup and the fried green tomatoes. The shrimp and grits were delicious. The grouper was very good although it was blackened and the last two bites were a bit salty. That literally was the only negative if you could call it that. Such a great experience. I’d definitely recommend
They had a great menu, and the food was very good. Our waitress was very attentive and did an excellent job.
Great food and service, will be returning in the future!
We went for restaurant week. She crab soup had a lot of shells in it which was offputting. The braised shot rib tasted fine, but wasn't very warm. Food was OK, but for the price there are much better experiences in the area. Our waiter was very pleasant but looked to have every table so drinks ran empty.
Great meal! Great service! We loved all of our meals. The salmon was quite delicious. Shrimp and grits had lots of shrimp. The short ribs were tender and tasty. I would definitely return.
Restaurant week made it even a better value! Food was excellent!
Had lunch here today and as usual we were both happy with our meals.
The cocktails were fun and the She Crab Soup was to die for! All the courses were delicious. Can’t wait to return!
Nice & friendly staff. Fish overcooked. She-crab soup very disappointing. Service, while pleasant, was not appropriately attentive. Wouldn’t rush back.
Very good food! Great convenient location! Great service!
The Swamp Fox has great ambience and is one of Charleston's best restaurants . The food is great and the service is courteous and friendly.
Good spot - get there early and expect relatively large portions
Did not live up to food writer reviews. One stated the restaurant was hard to find in the building - the dining room is at the front of the hotel, on the street, with its own entrance. Expected a bit more of a formal dining experience (dress) than received. Nice enough place for dining downtown.
Food was not very good. Bland chicken, charred steak, etc. Great service though. Seemed more like a Dennys than a nice restaurant for the price we expected more
Excellent food and service, restaurant itself is a bit dated
Hostess wave us to sit. Server, Brandon called everyone “Hey Guys” as he rushed table by table. We think he was the only server. Said “ran out of food” - plopped plate and said “So, steak, not prime rib.” Oh well. Rushed. Doors dirty, fingerprints. Croutons - Caesar salad was stoggy at best. Asparagus woody, inedible.
This was, by far, the best meal I had in Charleston. The meal was perfect. The service was stellar. The noise level was appropriate and allowed for quiet intimate conversation. This restaurant should be on every “best restaurant” list for Charleston. Will be back!
Phenomenal Christmas Day dinner! Probably the largest piece of Prime Rib we’ve ever had and cooked to perfection! Wonderful ambiance and amazing service. Our Christmas Dinner was not only what we had hoped for but exceeded our expectations in every way. BTW, Sylvie, our server was fantastic and super attentive. Best part of our vacation!
It was a very good experience. Will definitely be back.
Christmas lunch special was excellent
Salmon with sweet potato bacon hash was very good. Live piano music was lovely. Service was busy, but engaged. Had trouble finding the restroom (even after asking for directions). We found street parking less than a block away.
Our Bartender/waitress was adorable, very friendly and very attentive. The food was decent, but not great.
Wonderful dinner & service ….food was very good plus the wine!
