Great steaks and great service. It was our first time trying this local place and we had a fantastic meal.
The Canal House was decorated very nicely and we were given a very warm greeting.
Our server was very helpful and the chef changed one of the sauces to accommodate
a special diet.
The meals were a nice size and delicious.
We were surprised that there was only one other family dining besides us considering it was 6:30 on a Friday night. There were a few customers at the bar.
First time visitors. The service and good was superb. We were seated promptly and he wait staff were very attentive and caring. Had an issue in which steak was undercooked but it was fixed without issue. Food was delicious. Was very happy with the experience
The restaurant was overbooked and we waited 21/2 hours for a completely raw steak!!! My boyfriends Salmon got cold while we waited for them to “Re cook” it. Again the steak came back raw! I ended up taking it home to cook it myself.
They refunded my dish but not my boyfriend’s dish. The experience cost us $70. We will not be returning
Great food in updated traditional atmosphere with an attentive staff. If you haven’t been here - ever or in awhile- go!
Great food, quaint atmosphere with an interesting history. Highly recommended and we’ll be back.
The Union Canal House is an old staple in the Hershey PA area. I don’t take issue with the food tonight, but the service was quite disorganized and at times, unprofessional. Even though it was New Years Eve, they could have had their act together a little better. But the food was quite good: we enjoyed our lobster tails and my salad was very fresh and crisp with a tasty balsamic vinegar dressing. I spoke to the owner about making sure I get credit for this visit on OpenTable but she didn’t know what I was talking about. She even said they weren’t members of OpenTable!! I thought that was interesting since obviously that’s how I made the reservation!
It is hard to review this place on much of anything… Other than service, as it was quite apparent when we arrived that they did not want us as guest. Part of our party was slightly early for the reservation. This seemed to completely annoy the restaurant. Despite the dining room being empty, they refused to seat anyone until the exact time of the reservation. After they complained that we were a “odd numbered party” (we were a party of 7), we decided to find another place to eat. This location is less than 3 miles of a major tourist traction… Such a pity as it should be sitting on a gold mine!
This was our first time dining at Union Canal House. We enjoyed the atmosphere. The food is excellent.
Our dinner experience was nice. We were celebrating my husband's birthday with friends and I was disappointed he wasn't even given a small dessert for the occasion. The steaks we're okay, but surprisingly not seasoned. I guess the biggest disappointment was when we received the check. We knew how much each dish was, the side salads were small for the price, and it was $2.25 per tea bag for a cup of hot tea. I could have purchased a whole box of Lipton tea bags for the cost of one cup. I'm not sure if we will ever go back because of the separate charges for everything. The best part of the dinner was the waiter.
We have not eaten at UCH for many, many years. It was a great evening with the daughters. We will definitely be back...many, many times.
Waiter appeared to be new and unsure about what to do. Waited a long time for drinks although we were the only 4 in the restaurant. All 4 entrees were served cold. It appears that this facility is going "downhill" or is just being used as a tax write-off. Will not return.
A divine place in every way around they infects you with calm and happiness. Excellent service, its owner Deborah very attentive, she infected us with the magic of the place and its history. When the time comes for the meal mmmm.... I don't tell you more come and check.
Nice place for dinner at 1/2 the price. No comparison to the Mill, Devon, or even Houlihan's. Seating may as well be Hoss' Steakhouse. Nice staff, responsive service.
We went our friends from NY - our agenda was to have a nice dinner and then go to hersheypark afterwards....food was good, but we never made it over to hersheypark because it took us almost 2 hours -90 mins to get all our entrees. The restaurant was a little busy, but nothing that would cause such a long wait. I expect better service in the future as this was unacceptable.
We really were excited to visit this restaurant. It was very, very quiet Friday night (4 tables occupied) and when the 3 tables were no longer occupied we were the only table with patrons. Our waitress was very very nice and it really wasn't her fault that it took quite a long time to get our dinners (we all ordered chicken dishes). When dinner was served the potatoes and vegetables were lukewarm.
The old building is nicely appointed but was a little on the chilly side. We did appreciated the complimentary pie slice for the birthday girl.
Excellent everything. Owner took us on tour of basement.
Mediocre. Not worth the price.
Vacation with family
Great dinner, thanks for being open.
Excellent food with a charming environment. This was a perfect romantic dinner for my wife and I.
Back for a 3rd time with friends for dinner. Fabulous food and the ambiance could not be better for quiet conversation. The "Top Shelf Margarita" is enough to make the trip. Highly recommended as a great place to have dinner with friends who appreciate great food and great service.
We loved the food - cannot understand why there were not more people there a little pricey but worth it
Had not visited this restaurant for a number of years. The renovations after the floods in the area have been masterfully done. Our food and service was excellent and the four of us will certainly now make this place a "regular" location in the Hershey area for an excellent meal. If you haven't been here in a while or have never found this restaurant, you owe yourself a trip as soon as possible. From steaks to lobster and much in between, this is a "winner" !
Although the food was very tasty the portions were small and the prices were out of line.
I believe we were the only table there. Very quiet for a Friday night. Food and service were excellent cellent
Had an excellent dinner. It was a very slow night so we were the only people there, so it was a little too quiet. That said, the food was fantastic and the service was excellent.
Quiet, relaxing atmosphere, quality food, fair prices, neat tour of revolution era tunnel in basement
The menu is limited and the food is very highly priced..would not recommended
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The service and food were excellent. We enjoyed the basement historical tour as well. Price was a little high but not unreasonable. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to friends.
Took the entire family and we enjoyed a casual comfortable evening. The staff is very friendly, they made us feel right at home. Entrees are hearty old style, all were very good! Homemade desserts were even better! Off the beaten path in Hershey, this restaurant is certainly worth a try.
We both had the filet mignon. Very, very tender and juicy. Excellent flavor. As were there on a Thursday evening, it was very quiet, which was nice. The owner gave us a tour of the basement tunnel after dinner and shared the history. Loved our visit. I have already recommended to a local friend who has not been here.
Sad place to have to eat. Menu, atmosphere, and experience is stuck in the past. The place was empty and quieter than a funeral home. Although the location is of some historical interest, it doesn't take advantage by creating a period atmosphere nor does it make an effort to appeal to modern tastes. The outside looks like a dive bar and should have warned us off.
Food very good just took a while to get it Would recommend as a good place to go
Food was excellent. Waiter very friendly and met our needs promptly.
Usually we truly enjoy dinner here. The one time we bring friends for a special celebration & it was a horrible experience! The bartender said it was "winter" & I don't know how to make a margarita! He made our lady friend one anyways & it was so bad. Next, we were seated & it took over 15 minutes for a server to attend to us. We waited & waited for our dinners to come for almost an hour & when they were served, the lobsters were dry and rubbery, the chicken parm was so over cooked, they covered it with a ton of cheese! One order wasn't even what was ordered & a server knocked over one of our drinks. Nothing was comped or discounted and all we got were apologies. Very disappointing evening from one of our fav places to go.
Food was delicious, host and server were great, but something was wonky in the kitchen. We had arrived at 6, ordered at 6:15, and was near 7:30 until the food came out, making us a few minutes late for a show at the Hershey theater. No offer was made for a discount for the late meal. I think this is something that needs looked into. Had the food come out 45 minutes to an hour sooner, this would have been a five star experience across the board.
My wife and I spent a great Valentine's date night @ the Union Canal House. The service, food, ambiance were very enjoyable. We also had a nice conversation with the owner after our meal.
Don't forget to order the PB pie when you go!
We really enjoyed the Union Canal House - waiter was attentive, and the food was great!
They were not open went all that way and they were closed. Had a party from out of town and looked like a fool.
