The Valley Kitchen
I wasn’t sure about this place when making reservation. It was not clear that this is a Hyatt property with an attached restaurant. I got a clue when we arrived and the place was teeming with kids. It looked like a resort environment. We were seated at a table that was in the middle of three very busy spots. The waitress moved our table, why I don’t know. It felt like we were seated in a fishbowl. Kids were running about, and it was loud. Our meal was good, price was right for what we ordered. I wasn’t going to order an entree because at the posted prices I would not pay a premium to sit in the middle of a raceway.
We received 2 glasses of champagne courtesy of the restaurant and they comp’d our sparkling water.
The service was very good, the wait staff couldn’t have been nicer. By the end of our meal we were laughing! Not what I signed up for but oh well. Live and learn.
Casual but upscale dining place. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. Overall ambience was unbeatable, too. Wish the food could be warmer when served.
It was awesome
This was the first disappointing dinner I have had at the Valley. The food was not up to par and the service was slow. The tuna was dressed with Poblano pepper and cumin but it completely masked the taste of the fish. The Filet was very tender but lacked any taste at all. Jade was very busy working both inside and outside tables so they were definitely short staffed. She did her best and was very friendly but they certainly need more staff. We sat near the window tables and the lights were focused not on the table but instead directly on my spouse. Really distracting and I could tell no one was looking at the details.
Very disappointed. Food quality was poor and service seemed very unprofessional. Will not return
Seated indoors and noise level caused us to shout at each other, diminshed the enjoyment factor, next time, must request the separate, adjacent room. Halibut was a bit dry. Tomato soup, outstanding.
Excellent meal and service.
The food is always delicious, but the host was very rude. We had a large party, who had to get broken up at different tables. I had to take control to figure out how we can have us all sit together, because she was not going to even attempt to come up with a solution. We were there for grandpas 82nd birthday, and it took away the joy of celebrating together.
Great food and friendly staff! Dog friendly outdoor seating!
Very casual setting which is fine but price points are high for dinner entrees.Best
for a drink and light food. Some tables have very nice views.
Food was solid. Everything else was very average.
We miss the previous chef. The menu at valley kitchen has been limited and dull for the past six months. I don’t like to criticize any restaurant during these difficult times. But this is an expensive restaurant serving guests and the public, and we’d like a little more variety and finesse. And how about a true brunch menu with more egg options, pancakes or French toast, perhaps some smoked salmon.
Loved the soup seasonal special (grilled corn bisque) and wasabi crusted tuna! We also ordered the vegan garlic pasta and skinny Pina Colada. For dessert we definitely enjoyed the olive oil cake with creme fraiche ice creme (topped with blueberries)
Nice shaded table near the pool, very accommodating waiter. Food was very good. You cannot beat the scenery with those mountains and trees. All 3 of us live here, so this was a great out of Carmel-by-the-Sea madness of Labor Day weekend!
Have eaten here several times and the food is delicious. The service has always been very good-friendly. Nice to eat outdoors under covered patio looking at the pool.
lovely experience.. thank you! It's a beautiful setting
They really do have exceptionally poor service. For the price you are paying at this resort, I would hope they could train some of their servers better. We ordered a few drinks and sparkling water - it never came. We ordered dessert, it took over 30 minutes to get to us. Just hands down one of the worst experience I've ever been through. For those who think it's just maybe a one time mistake - well we had dinner there the previous night and the service was just as bad with a different server. I'm not sure what was going on, but I will probably never return to the resort because of our experience.
Everything was lovely. Our server could Have been a little more knowledgeable about the menu items and the history of the farm.
Jose guided us to just the right wines and meal choice and Harlan made sure our celebration was very special. We look forward to retuning.
Really poor service. The waiter never came around to take our main course order. We waited 15-20 mins after we finished our appetizers before he came to our table then we waited longer to get our meal. We saw him walking around but he just didn’t stop to check on our table. Just awful!
Excellent food, service and ambiance.
A wonderful breakfast while at Carmel Valley Ranch. We sat outside on the patio that looks over the vineyard. Our server was very friendly and attentive. And the food was very good as well. We had the breakfast sandwich and the salmon omelette. We highly recommend it!
It was very nice to eat outdoors poolside with beautiful views (and under propane heaters). Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was very good, particularly the heirloom tomato and burrata appetizer and the scallop entree.
This restaurant always delivers excellent food, but we noticed that the service went up a notch! The new manager, Harlan, could very well be the reason. He really knows about excellent hospitality and customer service. Every step of the way we were well attended to. The food was amazing! Thanks, we will be back!
We’ve been a number of times to Valley Kitchen whenever we stay at Carmel Valley Ranch. This time the service and food was definitely a bit slower than in the past (but I know all restaurants are strapped for servers). The Chèvre farting was delicious as was the pork tenderloin but the risotto was bland. The prices have also gone up since we were last there. Spent ~$200 for two people with only one person Having wine.
Wonderful atmosphere, the Gilroy garlic clams are a wonderful appetizer, we ordered the filet and ribeye steak for dinner and they were great.
Staff were very friendly, food was excellent, fresh, good portion sizes. Tables need to wiped a little better. Lovely place to eat
Very relaxing, food was great, outdoor dining with beautiful scenery!
Excellent food and service with nice outdoor dining option
We left before ordering. It is very much a place for families with very young children. It reminded me of one of the cafeterias at Disneyworld. We had a speaker right over our table blasting us with inappropriate dinner music (Nirvana). We were cold, as we were outside in an area without heat lamps. They were under-staffed (like many places post pandemic) so we left before ordering from any of the $50+ entries. We were trying to go to a nice place for a birthday celebration - this was not a good choice.
There for a wedding, the breakfast was a highlight.
Gorgeous views of the vineyard with outside dining & excellent service
This middle age white male from the restaurant reception desk was absolutely unfriendly, emotionless and lied to us that the window seating and outdoor seatings we asked for were all fully booked. Turned out that this man totally lied to us, there were only a few tables taken and the almost vacant seats near the window and outdoor area surprisingly remained empty until we finished our dinner. Very uncomfortable and confused. By the way we were trying to celebrate my parents anniversary.
To share more details, when checking in we saw the dining area mostly empty so we asked politely if we can take the outdoor seating or window seats. He was saying “No” , “No”, “ Nothing available they are all fully booked” with unfriendly attitude.
When we got seated and we found the seat was right next to the kitchen entrance and exposed to beams of sunlight right to our eyes, we asked our waitress Lizzy if we could change to the seat to windows seats, and she was super nice and kindly move us to almost vacant window seats right away without checking the receptions, apparently there were no reservations for any of the tables.
Obviously the male who took us to our seat lied to us, he intentionally placed us to the seat right near the kitchen entrance.
More over, until we finished our dinner around 9pm, the window tables or outdoor tables were remained empty. Very uncomfortable to learn the fact that this male totally lied.
This white male in glasses with black frame, with grey hair looked at his age about 40-50+.
Very unpleasantness experience, all my family feel uncomfortable - the rest of the dining service is perfect, but the very first interaction with the male from reception is totally the worst and unforgettable.
We ate here to begin our honeymoon before we headed off to Tahiti. Everyone here was so nice, and the food was fantastic! We can’t wait to come back and stay for our anniversary!!!
We are local and have eaten here a number of times in the past. The food was very good. The service was awful. There was a lack of attentiveness to our table with very long delays, despite seemingly adequate staffing. Service was very disorganized without evidence of any leadership or direction. We received water promptly, then nothing. My daughter finally asked someone passing by for an appetizer to keep her to young children happy.
Eventuality we ordered and some time later the food came out. The servers had no idea of who ordered what. My salad came out shortly after the entree.
Despite good food, it was a very bad dining experience at a restaurant billed as fine dining.
We were treated so well by all the staff; kudos to Harlan the GM! Our waitperson was Adalberto-excellent!!! The food was exceptional too.
My girlfriends and I had a Very nice lunch at this restaurant. The food was good and the atmosphere was very nice. No complaints!
Terrible ambiance; feels like a dining hall, unless you’re seated outside. This is a hotel’s restaurant that “has to feed those damn customers.” Go somewhere else if you have a choice
A very very subpar experience. Nice views but low quality food and untrained service. I feel for the staff who seem to be left to their own devices with very little training in running the establishment. Shame on Hyatt for wrecking this place.
Celebrated my birthday here, beautiful scenery.
