   This was our third high tea at VG. The others were great. This one however was lacking. The spots were time limited to 90 minutes. This is somewhat understandable however it was mentioned 3 times to us.and at this price point seems a bit chintzy Secondly the service was not great. No one explained our 3 tier offering. Which they were doing at other tables..as well we had to ask for refresh on our tea which took quite awhile . As well they took our tiered plate and left just the last plate in what seemed like an effort to move us along. We were brought our bill which presumably they were in a hurry to have us pay to get us to exit prior to their needing the table. However again we waited Most disappointing was the sweet desserts.. Three of them we only took one bite. They were not tasty. We will return as it is a nice experience and we hope this was a one off. We stayed the night at the Fairmont and this did not match their brand or level of service

   Beautiful setting , excellent ambiance and service. Food was very good: wouldn’t say exceptional for the price we paid, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go again.

   Highly recommend the high tea event. Would be nice to have more than an hour and half to enjoy. Some background music would add to the ambience, maybe a pianist, harpist etc. More savoury and less sweet. Overall enjoyable.

   What an amazing experience. 4 of us went for the Winter wonderland tea. We had such and amazing time that we talked about making it a yearly tradition. Our waiter was amazing. He gave me a complimentary glass of champagne as we were celebrating.

   The food was delicious and the service was extraordinary. The only damper on the experience was the cost of adding a mimosa. I did not expect for each drink to be $20, although in retrospect I should have asked (since the experience is a fixed price and there are no prices written on any menus on the table). Had I known the cost, I would not have ordered one. The additional cost was a small unpleasant surprise at the end of a beautiful experience. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

   Wonderful personable service. Food was very good although the salmon on the Eggs Benedict seemed much saltier than we would normally expect. Hoping we can have brunch in the dining room next time instead of the lounge.

   This is a review of the New Year's dinner. The ambiance was great and the service was outstanding. The food was tasty but I would have preferred more greens, like a real salad and more crab filling in the crab pastry. It seemed mostly made up of dough. The soup could have had some real mushrooms rather than just mushroom flavor. The bun served with the meal was cold. To be honest a bread basket would have been better. The dessert was also a bit disappointing, with a smear of meringue on the plate rather than an actual meringue cookie or cake. For the main meal the beef was delicious but the potato was underseasoned. There were no salt or pepper shakers at the table and nobody came to ask about extra seasoning. The live band was excellent and the seating booth very comfortable. Service was also excellent. Overall a 7-8 out of 10.

   Wonderful evening of food, music and excellent ambience! The menu picked for us was superb. We had a lovely table at the restaurant, with the just right mix of privacy and closeness to the band. Definitely will do it again. Thanks again to our "personal" waiter for outstanding service!

    We reserved a month in advance and asked for Dining room . We were not informed it would be in the lounge . The menu is limited . The chaucuterie was underwhelming. Food was okie but not more than pricier than a mom and pop shop

    Food was cold, pasta dry, bread dry, potatoes chewy, everything under seasoned. Cocktail had no sugar / simple syrup (mojito). Steaks and turkey were good, but sides all lacking. Shocked as we’ve spent lots of Christmas dinners at the Fairmont, and this was just not good. Server was casual so didn’t know the menus too well nor the cocktails (not her fault). Food was slow, but that’s not a huge deal since we were enjoying spending time together.

    Rod from The Velvet Grove was amazing and made our night unforgettable. He truly took care of our party and made the experience that much more enjoyable. The four course meal was amazing, the best steak i’ve ever had in Winnipeg.

    I was with a group December 23 and everything was impeccable. During a visit the next day with my family it was the exact opposite, poor service and food was just ok compared to the previous day. They need to work on the inconsistencies.

    Upon arrival we were told our table was not ready as the previous group was late for their reservation. Was put at another table. Server was unaware of allergies mentioned and we were still served food that contained allergens. Half of our group were unable to eat some of the food. We were also charged for 3 adults (2 adults and a 4 year old) the cardholder will be dealing directly with this. There was a group in attendance who were very loud, boisterous and white obnoxious. No evidence of the theme nutcracker was present. Overall a disappointing experience.

    We went to the Nutcracker High Tea and it was so much fun. We were all adults and there were many tables of adults with fancy sandwiches and sweets but also tables with kids and they got their own special tea trays with all kinds of kid friendly treats on them. The whole place was decorated with nutcrackers everywhere. It was expensive but worth the splurge. Rod was an amazing server. He has an amazing memory, is very friendly, and a lovely person. He was attentive to our every need even though it was busy for the tea. We had a spectacular time.

    We attended the Velvet glove for the Nutcracker High Tea. The ambiance was bustling, but with such festivity. Our server was Rod, who was such a pleasure and made sure we had everything we needed. We are return customers of High Tea, and will be in the future!

    The High Tea was a lovely experience for two friends to chat and play tea time in the big kid world for real! It was fun and charming. We had misunderstood the tea experience itself and discovered that only one tea out of the 8 teas on the menu is offered to each patron. It was still nice but was not an opportunity to try many teas. The food was good, well made and nicely presented. We ate everything and were really full. Staff was sufficient and pleasant. We had a great time! Thank you Velvet Glove :)

    We didn’t actually get to eat in the dining room but had to eat in the lounge which was very disappointing. We did not want to have to watch sports while having our meal. We reserved for the dining room. If it was not going to be available then why did you still take reservations.

    I made reservations for a special occasions for what I was hoping to be a lovely experience. Little did I know the dining room was not open and we were seated in the LOUNGE. I would not have booked if knowing this on their website. As well sounded like, surprisingly, valet service was part of the experience. What a surprise to having to pay over $30 to park for 2 hours. Would I recommend this place to anyone, afraid not.

    Dining room was closed so seated in the lounge. It was quiet the night we dined there but if it was busy I imagine it would be quite loud considering the proximity of the tables. The fish tacos were great but the truffle fries lacked even a hint of truffle. My partner's salmon was ok but would have benefitted from more of the beurre blanc sauce. We both prefer a crisp vegetable but these were just barely softer than raw. The cheesecake was fantastic... wonderfully smooth and served with a variety of fresh fruit. Our server Daniel was excellent but unfortunately neither he nor the manager was aware of the parking instructions on Open Table. Our reservation confirmation noted that diners are "treated like VIPs" and suggested we drop our keys with the valet and they would "take care of the rest". I took that to mean the valet service was complimentary but was charged $30. A follow up email with a screen shot of the online note received no response.

    The food was sub par. The service was excellent. The ambience was nice but we thought we would be in the dining room so a bit of a let down although with covid that is totally understandable. Understand that there is a new chef coming. Will try when that happens.

    Beautiful place and nice presentation of delicious food but perhaps a bit too pricey for what we had. 18% automatic gratuity added to the bill even though we hardly saw our waitress seems a bit unnecessary. It would have been nice if they had validated our parking after such an expensive meal.

    We attended the fall High Tea. The service and the food were excellent. We had four generations of women from our family and it was great fun. Enjoyed by all. The food has a wide range of tastes and the junior menu for kids was appropriate. Highly recommended.

    Tea service started well, but as soon as we got our food and drinks, the staff didn’t show up again until they dropped off the bill without us asking for it. We were never asked if everything was okay, if we wanted anything else, or for any other reason. We ran out of milk for the tea, we weren’t offered more tea, and one guest never got her glass of sparkling wine. It was incredibly insulting to be charged a mandatory gratuity for such terrible service. Food was okay, but kitchen staff clearly don’t take the eating experience into account when assembling their menu items. I expect a nice restaurant to present food that doesn’t fall apart as you eat it in a “nice” environment; it’s incredibly messy and inelegant. Finally, I was disgusted when another patron entered, sat down, then took off her shoes. WHO sits in a public restaurant BAREFOOT. Moreover, she was standing up barefoot at her table - it was so unappetizing. The room is nice, which is important to me in a restaurant, but I probably won’t go back based on this experience.

    Our server Rod was lovely! We got there right at the start of the tea service so the restaurant was nice and quiet…definitely got louder as the larger parties arrived, but overall it was a wonderful experience!

    Great High Tea experience! It was our first time going and the servers were welcoming and helpful the whole time. The only complaint I have is prior to our reservation I kept getting calls from Fairmont/ Velvet Glove AFTER I'd already spoken to a staff member to confirm my reservation and dietary restrictions. It felt pretty disorganized, like they weren't communicating internally. Add to that the fact that when we got to the restaurant they asked the same questions AGAIN! When I had just talked to their staff the day before (more than once, as per my comment above). I would recommend some sort of note-taking system for a more seamless experience for your customers.

    It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon tea. I just would’ve loved prettier looking tea pots. I’ll recommend afternoon tea at the fairmont to absolutely anyone and everyone! It’s beautiful!

    So my daughter and I attend this high tea with great excitement but were very disappointed in the quality of food . The value for what we paid which was quite pricy was not there.the 3 small sandwiches were very basic and the bagel was very dry with the sliver of salmon and the brioche bun wi the cheap ham was hard as a rock and we had to return it. The velvet glove should be embarrassed to cal this a high tea. What a waste of money. The server Rita tried very hard but either lacked experience or lacked assistance. I thought the velvet glove would've been a upscale classy experience. I regret going.
