Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse
This was our 2nd visit to this Japanese steakhouse and like our last visit in December we loved the food, service, and friendliness of the waitstaff.
Just really mediocre experience at best

Above average Asian food well-prepared and unusually tasty drinks.
As a family, we have been to several Hibachi steakhouses but Tokyo is the best one ever!
This was our third time here in the last 5 weeks and the experience was great as usual. I absolutely love the food and ambience here. We will definitely be returning...soon!
Pretty great. We had five 13-year-olds for dinner and they had a wonderful time.
Safely order and dine in this restaurant! Food is well-prepared! You cannot go wrong! Try the Nabenyaki udon seafood soup or Chicken teriyaki!
The food was fantastic so I may order take out or delivery. However it was Sooo load with night club type music we could not hear each other across the table

The service was horrible and my salad was frozen. I didn’t make a big deal about it during the meal but on my way out I told management about the frozen salad only to be told it’s supposed to be cold. I understand that everyone is doing their best given the pandemic but bad service and the flippant remark has made me decide not to return.

We have been here many time before but am very upset that during the Covid out break Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse @ Chestnuthill had no concept of their social responsibility. The steakhouse was filled with college kids all packed like a sardine in a box; with no social distancing. The Mgmt made no effort and participated in packing the folks at any table within the restaurant. The food was terrible as clearly they were not staffed for so many folks. I should have filled a complaint with City of Newton health department and Chestnut Hill mall’s landlord!
I have no interest in supporting local business that acts so irresponsibly!
Food was great but the waiter was rushing my party amd tapped on the bill a few times, which we found extremely rude.
Only one other table had customers when we arrived, which was nice for us. I’m assuming that Tokyo is struggling, along with so many other establishments, but we’re trying to support as best we can. Food is always consistently good. Service is fine. Decent night out.

They weren’t open. I drove 15 minutes to get to them. They were closed. The fact that Opentable was booking for them while they weren’t even open and I wasted my time going there is pathetic.

I really like this place. It has a variety of types of Japanese food and is comfortable. Also, they make good drinks.
We came here for my birthday and everything was excellent. The food was delicious and they came out and sang. The restaurant was quiet but experience was great as always.
I great Japanese hibachi restraint. Skilled knife work. On other occasions we have had "cook it yourself" Hibachi and the experience was great. Their Sushi is great also. A hidden gem in the upper level of Chestnut hill Mall, with lots of free parking right outside.

Did not even get seated as they had Way overbooked themselves on open table and otherwise, arrived on time for reservation and folks booked 45 min-1 hr prior to us were still waiting for their table, including mother w infant daughter. Felt terrible for folks waiting for so long on Valentines day.
Should not be listed for booking on open table if they are not able to honor reservations.

We had a reservation for 7, but only got called to be seated at 7-50. What's the point of a reservation if you have to wait 50minutes!
The place was understaffed, and service slow.
It wasn't crowded at 6:30 pm on 2/14, host was mean, it was really cold. Service was horrible and my lobster scallops and shrimp were over cooked. However, the rice was good and the busboy was very nice. I'm totally shocked...Toyko is my favorite!

The menu online shows they have shabu shabu which is why I chose this restaurant. They no longer serve shabu shabu, but they do have a hibachi grill. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to try shabu shabu. The sushi was good and everyone seemed to like their food. The reservation is really for the hibachi tables. There were plenty of open regular tables. We had to wait a long time for our check...they seemed to be understaffed. Since we were a party of seven the gratuity was included in the bill, so watch for that. Please update your menu online to remove the shabu shabu.
Very mediocre food with endearing yet ineffective service. The hostess was not interested in our reservation and did not mark it as attended. Will not be returning.
This was the second time I went to Tokyo where they sat my party and then left us waiting on drinks/service for close to 45 minutes. This was AFTER waiting to be seated. Both times we have had to get up and leave without even being acknowledged. There is a besito and Cheesecake Factory downstairs which are great!
Typical Tokyo experience. Seated right away. Order taken. Soup and salad comes out quickly. Chef not far behind. Server disappears, so drinks rarely get refilled. Get check. Leave. Kids like the place, or else I’d find other options.
We had reservation but were seated atleast 30 minutes late. Worse part was the service. We weren’t even offered water, our drinks took forever to arrive and our hibachi chef had no interest in entertaining us. Food tasted decent.

We were surprised to see the sushi menu was an all you can eat concept. Other half of restaurant was exhibition grill-chef style.
Overall quality and assortment of sushi was quite good. They had a good sized number of choices, including dragon rolls etc, and the had everything we ordered, maybe 8 varieties.
Normally I'd avoid all-you-can-eat, due to mediocre quality, but these guys were actually good!!
The food was great and overall we had a nice evening. However, don't expect that a 'reservation' means anything. We walked in at 630, showed them confirmation of our 630 reservation but they just wrote our name on the bottom of the list. There were people with a 6 pm reservation still waiting. They did not even have a system of checking reservations.
Ate at a regular table not hibachi. Some sushi some teriyaki dishes. Food was ok, not great
Online menu includes hot pot. One hour after our reservation time, we were finally seated at a communal hibachi table and told that they haven’t served hot pot in months because they removed it from the menu. We got up and left. Thanks for ruining my birthday.
