Valley Green Inn
We have frequented the Inn several times and I had my daughter's bridal shower at the inn. The ambiance is wonderful and the staff is professional and engaging. The food is good, but not stellar. I will continue to frequent the inn.
We always love this cherished restaurant located right on the Wissahickon Creek in Valley Green, and we've had many fine dinners there. It's a favorite when we have out-of-town guests. Hard for them to believe that we have such beauty IN the city of Philadelphia! This trip was no exception. We came with my sister and brother-in-law from Boston, and we all enjoyed it. I think they may have been a bit understaffed this night, because the service was slower than usual, and the server got some of our food mixed up. My partner and I shared a delicious steak which would have been much too big for either of us to eat alone. My sister had the salmon, and her husband, the chicken sandwich. Prices are always moderate, as are the price of drinks. Overall, we love this treasure and most certainly will return.
Location is the best part of the experience. Food and service is meh.
The view, ambiance, quality of food makes this an experience rather than "just" a meal.
And I mean no disrespect to bringing the food to the forest so that we can be entertained and being fed like "the old days".
Service was perfect, on time, social and interesting.
I had steak frites and it was amazing!
My GF had the turkey club (with extra avocado) and proclaimed "best ever!"
What a wonderful experience on a perfect day!
Go and do it!
Overall we enjoyed our experience here . The atmosphere provides a really relaxing meal. The noise level is so low compared to so may restaurants today. The snapper soup (house specialty) was excellent. It’s very unusual to find snapper soup with actual big chunks of turtle . It was very tasty with no addition of cream !
The crab cakes were good but had that strong flavor they have when not made from fresh crab with no additives . I know truly fresh crab is not often used but of course we enjoy it in a select few restaurants in Ocean City Maryland.
My steak was flavorful but tough .
We shared a tuna appetizer and it was very good with the exception of the single sushi roll that adorned the plate the rice in that was very dry and hard.
Wines were reasonably priced compared to many restaurants in PA.
Excellent food. Nice outside seating. Polite staff.
A wonderful place to eat and your bill benefits the park!
Valley Green Inn is a hidden gem. It’s busy on the weekend, but it is also a great place to eat mid week. The food, service, and setting are top notch.
Great place. Good for kids.
The Valley Green Inn is in a great setting. The flavors of the food were nice, but everything was way too salty.
Excellent food, excellent service & amazing ambiance!!!
Food was delicious and the staff friendly. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch people watching while we enjoyed our meal.
Love Valley Green. My wife and I had our wedding there. Wish the duck was still on the menu but always love going there.
Beautiful food In a beautiful setting. Special place.
Had a beautiful 41st anniversary lunch with my wife. Sat outside and had a bottle of wine and great food. Try the bacon wrapped meatloaf and the crab cakes. Would for sure eat here again. Thank you
A beautiful setting for a perfect weekend brunch, followed by a stroll along the path.
No TVs. No music. Rustic atmosphere by the creek on a beautiful day. My wife and I agreed to come back on a nice cold winter day to sit b6 the fire.
On a nice day dinner on the porch is unbeatable. My wife was very happy with the kale salad with grilled salmon. The grilled chicken sandwich was very good.
Lovely time on the porch of the Valley Green Inn. Perfect day of food and friends. Brunch is a perfect time to be there. Great people watching in a lovely park setting.
It was ok not terrible, this place is so unique and could be a wonderful experience. Candles on the outdoor dining tables and real tablecloths could add a big improvement...
Great meal. A historic inn in the largest urban park (Fairmount) in the United States. The most beautiful setting in the city. Food was surprisingly and unexpectedly good. Our server Irene was great. I called earlier in the day to see if it was BYOB and found they have a wine list but only charge a $10 corkage fee so I brought a nice bottle with me. We didn’t have dessert. Highly recommended!
The beautiful location is a given. Staff was friendly and informed. The celery root hummus was exquisite and beautifully presented. Both entrees the salmon and meatloaf were delicious, and we ate it all! Just a lovely experience - again! (Not my first visit.)
Lovely colonial inn, excellent food and service. Have been there many times -- it's a great place to have as a go to for lunch or dinner. Love the Wissahickon outside the door!
The restaurant and scenery was spectacular. Great food selection well prepared unique preparations and fantastic service.
The location is so special, go for the view of the creek, the friendly servers, and the decent desserts. The food is satisfying, the ambience of the historic building is enjoyable.
We had reservations for noon for a party of four inside including guests from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. It took over an hour to be served iced tea and sandwiches. Normally service is fast. The server never mentioned that the delay was because a cook never showed up for work until I asked her why there was a delay. Great food and atmosphere but service is sometimes questionable.
So sad, I love Valley Green Inn. The setting is the best and I love to bring out of town guest to show them the area and some history. But the restaurant has slipped and I fear may never recover. When you walk inside you are hit but the overwhelming aroma of mildew. It's hard to imagine how someone could eat inside with the smell. The porch is the place to be looking out on the Wissahickon Creek, it is beautiful and serene. However, the food is "fair" at best and definitely too expensive for what you get. I ordered a Ceasar salad with chicken. It had very little "salad" and lots of fire-roasted chicken that was dry and overcooked. The spring salad with chicken was missing "salad" as well. The meatloaf wrapped in bacon was passable but look like something you would get in a diner. Our waitress was a bit gruff. I pine for a wonderful little restaurant here. Even if it was just the best burger place. But PLEASE, other historical houses probably have a similar smell - they are 100's of years old - but they aren't restaurants. Ya gotta do something about the smell.
The Menu is small, the food good, dinner outside picturesque. Will be back!
Food was fantastic. Great location. Very quiet and picturesque.
Excellent food and gorgeous surroundings. We ate on the porch and it was lovely, charming, and even though it was a warm night , down in the valley it was cool and comfortable. Highly recommended
Good brunch and lunch and competent service in the most stunning venue in Philadelphia--deep inside the wooded Wissahickon Gorge beside the creek and one of it's arching stone bridges.
Great spot! Food is MUCH better than it was a few years ago. Nice drinks too! Quiet, charming atmosphere. Wait staff was a little befuddled, but their kindness made up for any minor mistakes. Go! You will be pleased
Good food: service sporadic and very slow.
Wonderful setting, very good food, and kind servers and staff. Not a bad way to spend a lunch.
Really nice experience! Our waitress Tonya was amazing and made our special afternoon that much more special. Thank you again.
A wonderful dining experience. Previously had eaten from the dinner menu. This time we had the lunch menu, fewer choices but we all enjoyed what we got. We will be returning soon for dinner.
What an amazing thing to be able to eat in this historic inn!!! It’s a beautiful setting and the people who work there are very nice and helpful and efficient!
We had the worst service we've ever experienced anywhere last Sunday. However, since we've previously dined a few time at the Valley Green Inn, we know this was not normal... just very unfortunate. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive, our server couldn't remember the simplest requests and by the time our brunch arrived, we were too angry to enjoy it. Took it home in a box. Definitely not up to our expectations.
Great spot to chill out after a nice hike. Delicious food combined with a nice but limited selection of wine and beer. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed in many ways. The food was great and very friendly service. My first time but I will be back and would recommend it.
