The menu is creative and the food is exceptional. Well prepared dishes and perfectly cooked. Service was attentive and made one feel as a welcome guest. I highly recommend
Great food, but slow service.
Great, knowledgeable, warm service, excellent wine list, and probably the best halibut I’ve ever had.
This place never disappoints! I’ve been here three times and the service and food are consistently excellent. Case in point: today, a busy holiday weekend, they were still willing and able to accommodate a change of table so my mother could hear better. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable and had great recommendations. I will certainly return!
The staff is friendly, attentive, and professional.
The food is quality and the ambiance is perfect - I love the historical building
Amazing food as usual, and the servers are friendly and attentive. We are so grateful to have this gem of a restaurant nearby!
Ann and Michael made our Thanksgiving dinner amazing. The courses were thoughtful and tasty. Wine choices were explained and paired to our taste. We were truly impressed with Vermilion. Cheers to the chef and cooks. We will be back.
We love Vermilion and come here often. We were very impressed with their Thanksgiving menu; the food was absolutely delicious! I recommend this restaurant to everyone looking for a nice dining experience in Old Town.
Great food. Xxxxxxx xxxxxxxx. Xxxxxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxx. Xxxxxxxx xxx.xxxxxxxx .
Excellent - Thanksgiving Prix Fixe and wine list! We’ll definitely go back to Vermillion.
We had a fabulous Thanksgiving meal - everything was great!
Table wasn't available for ~35min after our reservation time. Service was annoyingly slow. Food and drinks were excellent.
The food was a B+ the Service was a D.
We enjoyed the food - Fall Maple Salad, Gnocchi, Scallops. All three were cooked well and tasted wonderful. We are not big portion people but these were slightly undersized. 3 Scallops for $28. But that would have been fine if the service was not so poor. We waited 10-15 minutes before our waited arrived. Then another 5 for water before he came to tell us specials and take drink orders. Wanting a gimlet, I asked what type of gin they had. He gave the 3 standards that normally indicate bottom and middle rail. So I ordered a Tanqueray and tonic, my dinning mates order wine and 2 cocktails. (Later when leaving I saw at the bar they had the gin I wanted. I guess I should have just asked but the waiter was lazy in not knowing what they had or asking the bar tender, or me to specify.) The glass of wine came in about 3 minutes the cocktails in about 20 minutes, with a slight apology. Mine was wrong - a vodka soda but I never saw the waiter again to correct.
The food servings came at reasonable intervals but on the outside of that. Eventually the waiter came back and I ordered a glass of wine. Overall the service was just rough and infrequent though they had several staff people there and the restaurant was not packed. They used the team approach to a table which was clunky. At one point a server came and snatched plates from the table while 2 people still had food on their plate and one other was mid chew. On leaving, we were waiting at the foot of the stairs for two people in our party to return. A server arrived and thrust two glasses of water at us - sorry not us - now or probably again unless we hear service improves.
Great food; unique choices! If I had to comment on something it’s that we told the restaurant in advance it was my husbands birthday but that was not acknowledged at all. Otherwise the food was delicious. I ordered the suckling pig and lord it! I’ll go back for sure.
The chestnut soup had no chestnuts and was a chicken broth. Had it been a chicken soup, it would have been good. The service was good. The $68 Burgundy wine was tasteless. My halibut was good. The champagne (middle one) was excellent; it tasted of honey.
Lovely restaurant and excellent service. Food was great.
Wonderful food and outstanding service. We visited Vermillion for an anniversary dinner , and the staff went above and beyond to make our evening special. The food was outstanding, service was exceptional and helpful in guiding our menu selections. Highly recommend for a wonderful evening.
Very very average. Slow service- 15 minutes for 3 glasses of cava. VERY noisy - had to yell across the table to be heard and cup my hand by my ears to hear my guests. Food (scallops) and pasta (ragu) was good; but not "the best I ever had". I had really high hopes based on reading the reviews and because it was in a magazine we bought but I left thinking "I've had better". YMMV
The team at Vermilion has created something truly special—an intimate, neighborhood restaurant with spectacular commitment to creativity with food and the utmost hospitality with service. My husband and I go to Vermilion once a week because not only are the dishes fantastic but the staff make us feel like we're visiting family and great friends.
We love eating upstairs but many of the tables are so softly lighted that you cannot readily ready the menu.
My first visit to Vermillion was for Sunday brunch. Our lovely server suggested the prix fixe option which included a first course and main (good tip!). My partner and I each ordered different combinations so that we could share. Each dish -- the fall salad, the smoked salmon benedict, the house-made stracciatella, and the halibut with chanterelles was beautiful and perfectly prepared. The food and service were outstanding without breaking the bank. Can't wait to go back!
Nice restaurant. Limited menu. Halibut was not memorable. Service was good.
The food was stupendous and each morsel was divine to enjoy. I will say that this is most definitely a special treat of a place to eat and it is not just an everyday visit due to the cost, it's a bit pricey, but in this instance that we were celebrating life, we very much enjoyed it and will be back. The ambiance upstairs was terrific in that the lighting was on the romantic side. I'd recommend sitting by the window if you have the chance to people watch alongside King Street.
I was in Old Town Alexandria during Veterans Day weekend and dined here two of three. Highly recommend!
Waitress was great and very personable. Wine flight paired nicely with the meal which was delicious and the perfect portion size. Dessert was amazing - get the tart! I would definitely recommend and return.
Whenever I'm in the Washington DC / Old Town Alexandria, VA area I always dine at Vermillion. Great seasonal offerings from local produce/sources. Excellent wine and dessert options too. I highly recommend!
Always amazing food and our last visit was no exception. Chef recommended the fois gras pate and the pigeon. Not your average 'hanging out in the park, sky rat pigeon"...nope this was amazing. Much better taste then even squab (and I don't say that lightly). All in all, a wonderful dinner (once again). It's food like this that keeps us coming back.
A little dark and hard to see my friends against the windows, but my eyes are aging. Otherwise, it was a perfect brunch experience. Get the hushpuppies!
We selected Vermilion for a dinner with some friends visiting from Paris. The hostess was very kind and helpful in ensuring we were seated in a nicely located table at the time of our reservation despite the crowded atmosphere.
The food and wine selection are outstanding.
The service however leaves much to be desired. In Europe (where we often travel) the service is as important as the food. We were disappointed and will think twice before we bring other guests there.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Vermillion. The service was above and beyond!
Food and service was good. It’s just loud everywhere which if that’s your thing then fine. For us it took away from the experience. To each their own.
I felt as if our waiter was treating us like just another table to take care of. I don't need to be waited on and gushed over but showing some interest in making our dinner experience special would have helped make the dinner more enjoyable. Dinner was good.
It was a bit too dark in the dining area. Almost impossible to read the menu.
The management & staff made our anniversary extra spectacular!
Fantastic highly recommend this restaurant in old town. Loved the warm almond tart dessert ! Scallops were good and my friends had squash and a great pasta dish. Interesting flavors and superb presentation The server was very kind and knowledgeable would definitely come back if I lived in the area
I prefer dining upstairs it was quieter
Fun night
Amazing restaurant with Michelin star-level food and fantastic service, ambiance, and location. Can't wait to return for the next seasonal menu.
Exceptional food, exceptional service!
Love the food but they need to up their bar game - It is a great space they just need better mixologist.
Consistently good; wine pairing is very interesting
Red snapper was served barely warm, floppy rubbery skin, under seasoned. NY strip came rare when I ordered medium rare. Not even sure it was a NY strip honestly, it looked like a hanger steak to me. Prices too high for this quality of food .
