A wonderful birthday celebration in an equally wonderful venue! Thank you Villa D’Este for your warm and friendly service.
Old school Italian. Great food and ambiance!
Owner is the nicest guy. Will come again!
A wonderful meal, the staff is awesome. We will be going again soon.
The food is very poor.
Wonderful service, amazing cuisine, delightful service.
Wonderful as always! The Sole Dore dinner was perfection... The service always friendly and thoughtful!
Wonderful way to spend Valentine’s Day with my parents. We loved the live music - all the old time romantic music was fabulous! Servers and waitress were pleasant. The chocolate mousse dessert was the perfect ending for my mom and dad!
This restaurant is nice and the price is right. Food is decent. I would definitely bring my family to this restaurant.
I attended a funeral memorial luncheon.
Nice ambiance, food taste was average, good service.
Nice Monday night dinner and cabaret show. Fun and very enjoyable
I thought the place look like a dive but the food was good.
Food was OK. Nothing spectacular but I've had better, in the same restaurant a few years ago. The waiter couldn't count. There were 4 of us and we asked for separate checks. One pair ordered dinners + a glass of red house wine and another pair had al' a' carte + 2 soups + 1 dessert + 1 glass of white house wine. All the wine was added to one check and none to another. Also, the waiter made a sum of Veal scallopini $21 and Chicken cacciatori $17 and a result got $40. For the life of me I don't know how it's possible. I suppose he forgot whatever arithmetic he learned in school and his calculator didn't work.
I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone. Maybe. I don't think I'll go again.
Very caring and attentive service- delightful experience there always!
AMAZING FOOD...GREAT AND TRULY SERVICE...THE LOCATION , ONCE INSIDE SEEMS LIKE ITALY IN THE 20'S LOVE EVERYTHING THERE FOR LAST 45 YEARS
MICHAEL & JOANNE ROMANO AND A LOTTA FAMILY
Terrible cocktails. I could not drink my Cosmo. Lasagna was okay. I ordered a tomato stuffed with mozzarella. I got slices of tomato with squares of mozzarella on top. When I pointed out the discrepancy, the owner/bartender/waiter (was he the chef too?) said, “Well, you can’t really roll the tomato around the cheese.” Then change the menu. The building and room are beautiful, but this didn’t feel like a real restaurant. It felt like I was in someone’s house, but not in a good way. I will not be back.
We celebrated yet another special occasion at Villa D'Este with wonderful cuisine, delightful service, a marvelous pianist and vocalist on Friday night. What a joy to return to the comfort of one San Francisco's last affordable culinary jewels. Amazing quality and value!
The whole place smelled kind of dank (it was a foggy day, everything had a faint mildew smell). It definitely seemed like the restaurant was catering to people age 60 and older. Food was unremarkable, but acceptable. I'd look elsewhere.
It was an enjoyable meal. Everything there is slow paced. We arrived at 5:40pm and we left about 8pm. Ideally not a place to go to eat if you are in a hurry. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable meal.
Nice place for a small group of 8 to celebrate a birthday a birthday which we did.
The primi piatti were very small. The alcohol was very expensive. The main courses could have been warmer. The flavor of the food was good and the venue was nostalgic.
Awesome experience. Very friendly all around and the owner is FANTASTIC. So much history that I’m not sure SF even realized what a treasure this establishment is. We will be back a minimum of once a month.
Neighborhood gem with an atmosphere that should be experienced! Like dining in a grand era theater, but as a cherished family member.
Good Italian food big portions retro place decent food
Monday Night Supper Club dinner specials were fabulous.
Combine it with a 2 hr caberet show.
Food continues to be like a down to earth holiday dinner
Wonderful as always!
Good food, good value. The dinner includes salad soup antipasto and main course. My husband had the lasagna and I had meat ravioli. The food was very tasty. We will go back.
The Villa D’Este is always a delightful experience with a well trained staff providing superb service. The decor always festive. More importantly the quality of the food offerings brings joy to every palette.
Villa d'Este provides quality food and a timeless environment. The entire staff treats everyone like they are special. While tradition is important to the restaurant and its patrons, Villa d'Este has made some small but needed changes such as the variety of musical entertainers accompanying your meal. Dining at Villa d'Este is a joy that enables you to experience an era and side of San Francisco that is unique, memorable and delicious.

Birthday Great collaboration well done great food
This restaurant has been in business for at least 45 years. The menu is extensive, with something for every taste. It is ‘old school’ Italian with everything very fresh and nicely prepared. Service is friendly and attentive. Prices for food and drink are very reasonable.
As always, good value for the money. Delicious food. Warm, friendly, hospitable service. Totally a winner!
Nice neighborhood restaurant that has been in business for a long time. Can get crowded but usually able to get reservations at or near desired times. Servers very nice and friendly.
It is rare find to dine at this good / traditional Italian restaurant that boasts more 40 years of history ! The food is great and the owner is very kind.
Villa D'Este is our premier destination for dining each year when we make our annual romantic nostalgic trip to San Francisco. We have never been disappointed in our food selection. The entree is always delivered piping hot. I always choose a fish entree because the fish is fresh, cooked to just the right consistency and taste, a generous portion and an appetizing presentation. And the next plate is served just at the right time.
The staff is polite, friendly, smiling and welcoming. Never intrusive. The atmosphere is one of comfort and ease in the dining room, and the conversation level is low and polite.
With an unique art decor interior, it harks back to more romantic times.
For over 15 years we have dined at Villa D'Este making that drive across the Bay. We have brought family and friends there, and they all have praises for the menu, price and ambiance.
If you want a quiet, private and unhurried meal. Villa D'Este is the restaurant to go to.
One of the last old world Italian restaurants. Love it.
