Walrus and the Carpenter
Loved it loved it loved it
Terrific oysters, interesting menu, good covid spacing, quiet-quick professional service. You receive what you pay for but be advised, its small plates/portions. The server said two orders makes one...probably for share dining. The foods so good I wouldn't always want to share. Hama Hamas on the 1/2 shell were $4 each which is on the high end. .
Felt very safe outside in Camp Walrus! Thank you!! Great service and food as always.
Server was weird.
Great drinks! Great servers! Great food!
Oysters were the highlight, and the rest of their food is sourced well and is all delicious
Wasn’t sure what it would be like to venture back into the restaurant scene after so many months away, but the Walrus made our evening feel really special. Tables were spaced far enough apart that it felt comfortable, but not sparse. Food was impeccable as always, service top notch.
The Walrus and Carpenter made me feel safe to eat out again.. We’ll be back!
The adjustments Walrus and the Carpenter have made in light of the COVID-19 pandemic is amazing. Such a great experience to return to dining and incredible atmosphere. Highly recommend.
It was my birthday dinner. I’ve only been here once and had a great first experience. I wish the second time had been just as good, but sadly, it was not. I told our server it was my birthday, I should have not even mentioned it because he clearly did not care at all. Which was unfortunate because the server we had last time was fantastic and actually seemed to care that we were there. The food was great, just like last time. Don’t waste your money on the cheese it’s good but it’s the smallest portion ever. Oysters were amazing. I’ll come back, but not anytime soon.
Wonderful food and service.
Weakest link was steak tartare had too mild a flavor but was fine- that’s what you get when you order steak at an oyster bar!
The rest was phenomenal.
It’s tough times for all restaurants, but this was not a satisfactory experience even taking our current Covid circumstances into consideration. We waited 25 minutes to be seated even though we were on time for the reservation. Oysters were very good but the two ‘garden’ dishes were bad. The grilled squash was served cold, as was the grilled Treviso. What’s the point of that when it’s 54° in your dining tent. In addition, the Treviso was just a lumpen creation - barely grilled at all and it required hacking with the provided serrated knife to be eaten. This establishment with the clever name used to be so good 6 years ago. Not returning.
This is the perfect solution to eating out during a pandemic. They’ve created a lovely outside seating area that is separated from other guests. Quite a lovely atmosphere!!
This was hands down one of my favorite restaurant experiences in a very long time! The ambiance was perfect, the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delectable! Although I am a Seattle native, this was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back again soon!!!
Favorites included the fresh oysters and the squash soup!
The best food I've ever had. Great service, fun atmosphere, and I always leave thinking about the next time I'll dine here. It's that good.
Best pandemic outdoor (specific) dining experience. And duh. Food and service was A+
Always outstanding! We loved being seated outdoors in Camp Walrus. Great service and good attention to details - cleanliness, our food and drink, decor, making recommendations, etc. oysters are always amazing but the Billy’s Tomatoes are a not miss! A gem in Seattle.
Went for just the oysters because we heard they were amazing. They were great! Appreciated that the people that worked there really knew about the oysters and answered all our questions. The only thing that was odd was that they put us at a table that was pretty close to another couple when there were two other further away open tables the whole time we were there.
Nice setup with outdoor tents. Great service and food! Will continue to visit
Great vivid global flavors creatively melded with a Northwest food experience!
The restaurant was well set up outside in the parking lot with tents to separate groups of diners. Food and service excellent. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
The food was amazing!! We ordered a bottle of wine, their recommendation was so unique and delicious which suited our taste!
An excellent return to business, albeit with COVID protocols. Was surprised to see the mandatory gratuity removed, but pleased with the no-contact bill pay (and the suggested 20% gratuity there). Booked out next dinner before dessert.
Amazing food and drinks
We always look forward to dining here. The food is always tasty, and we get to enjoy dishes we never have tried before, their chef is very creative. Service also nice. They no longer add the tip to the bill, so be aware and dont almost leave without tippig the fantastic service. Not going to recommend any specific dishes because of the 6 items we ordered, each was a favorite and impossible to compare with the others ;) Plus their menu changes with the seasons.
Delicious, fresh menu as always. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Private outdoor seating tents - I felt very safe and I appreciated the aesthetic effort!
Every time I visit, they made me surprised new menu. So never tired to have dinner😊 Also no waitin time now😅
Food great, table and space cramped - maybe too small for Covid.
Thanks for being great!! Appreciate all you do. I need a few more characters there to complete this review...that will do! :)
This was our second attempt to experience this restaurant. The first was not possible due to wait times we had not prepared for, but I'm happy to have finally eaten there. They are doing a fantastic job with distancing and mask requirements, and this effort on their part gave my wife and I a higher level of comfort, as we were a bit cautious and anxious about even going out to eat.
We sat right in view of the shucker and were able to watch our oyster order prepared for us. Outside of the really great oysters, we tried the beet cured salmon (Highly Recommended!), the pepper panzanella and the eggplant. Fantastic food all around. The oysters were the star of the show, but nothing was a disappointment.
Amazing in every way
Interesting menu. Veggies are pic. Staff was friendly as can be and made awesome suggestions for pairings with oysters.
Dinner with my wine wife- oysters, halibut ceviche, scallop crudo, burrata with grilled nectarines & peach shortbread were all spectacular and the service was perfect.
Ceviche was ridiculously garlicky. Tartare was ok not great. Service was fabulous though and it was our it’s time ever to send anything back and we’ve been to Walrus and Carpenter many times.
Walrus has been a favorite of ours for a long time, and they have done a great job making the COVID experience feel “on brand”. Food, service, and outdoor seating were great!
Overall it was a nice visit but the food is way over priced for what is served. They describe it as Tapas style so I guess I should have expected incredibly small portions. After bread, oysters, scallops, salmon, and the grilled squash, we left hungry.
The dining room isn't particularly cozy, comfortable....firm, anonymous seating.
It's good to see local restaurants open but $178 I was let underwhelmed and likely won't return any time soon.
Walrus and the Carpenter had been on my list of places to try since moving to Seattle. We reserved a table in late August 2020 during Covid-19 restrictions, so our experience is different compared to how 'normal' experience.
First, let's discuss the ambiance. We dined in the parking lot under a tent, which was pretty nice. The staff did their best to create an intimate atmosphere, which was accomplished by creating smaller partitions in a large outdoor tent. Each partition had a table that could sit anywhere from two to six people. In my case, this was date night so we had a table for two. Oddly, our table was next to the Oyster table and we could see into the other partitions. It wasn't a big deal, but an odd placement for the table considering the privacy provided to the other partitions/tables.
Next, I would like to address service. It was mostly good..our service was good when the waiter visited the table. He provided excellent suggestions and we were satisfied with his tone and behavior. The only criticism I have is that he went MIA for long periods of time so it awkward when we first were seated and didn't know whom to address questions to for the first ten minutes. We encountered the same thing when leaving, he disappeared after providing the bill and never confirmed payment was received using the touchless payment system.
Finally, let's talk about food. It was excellent! We tried the Summerstone, Eld Inlet, Hove Cove, and Indigo oysters and found Indigo to be our favorites. Hove Cove were really good as well.
We also tried Beets and Cured Sockeye and Grilled Sardines for entrees. They were simply outstanding, especially Cured Sockey. We finished the meal with Panna Cottaand
Shortbread. The Shortbreak was good (biscuit not as flavorful or flaky as expected for a southern biscuit), but the Panna Cotta was outstanding.
Overall, I would recommend visiting Walrus and the Carpenter and will visit again.
The MOST amazing food and lovely outdoor set up with fabulous service.
We love this place and it has become our must stop when visiting Seattle. The Oysters are fresh, the other dishes are inspired, the drinks are on point and the staff is always super friendly. Even in times of Covid we felt safe and our experience was fantastic. Highly recommend!
Fantastic oysters, great service and will definitely be back.
