The food is great as well as the service. We will definitely be back.
The West Coast Tavern is a must when heading for an event at the adjoining Observatory Theatre. Booking a reservation prior to door opening time allows patrons to enter the general seating area a little before others. This allowed us to be in the first row center of general admission. Starting with two of the funniest door men you'll ever meet the service with a smile and detailed attention to every aspect of our order is a quality not often found these days. The best part for me was the warm smiles and "no problem" attitudes of each staff member, I will make it a point to return here knowing my patronage is deeply valued. The last thing of note was the diversity of the employees, This is obviously a top down move showing West Coast Higher ups aim for and maintain a very diverse work force, something I look for more and more these days.
Keep up the great work West Coast! you'll see mw again soon, Scott Fleming
Perfect place for my friend’s birthday on a Sunday brunch
Loved it. Bottomless mimosas were well worth the price and the food was great. Very chill and fun for brunch. Will definitely be back!
West Coast Tavern is a fun and lively food/entertainment venue. However, the new menu offers mostly unhealthy, unappetizing food choices at increased cost. More importantly, it tasted terrible.
Our family once enjoyed a fantastic happy hour at West Coast Tavern which gave us great 5-spice wings and good cocktail deals. We stayed for dinner where we enjoyed many interesting and appetizing appetizer and entrée options. The food was prepared with care, was provided in filling portions, and always tasted delicious.
Our most recent return to the restaurant was met with a happy hour that ended an hour earlier than 3 weeks prior, far fewer food choices on a new menu, and poor food choices that were more expensive. We ordered wing appetizers for the table and they were as good as before. I ordered the chicken sliders and they were terrible (dry grilled/flavorless chicken on Hawaiian sweet bread with coleslaw); made me dry heave, no exaggeration. I choked one down, but spit a bite of the second into a paper towel. My sister ordered a quinoa bowl with chicken. Her $22 dollar meal was inedible. The restaurant was dark and the print on the new menu was so tiny we had to use the flashlight on our phones to read it. I searched in vain for vegetables to add on to my unhealthy meal. The choices were a Brussel sprout appetizer for $10, or meal-sized salads for >$10. They took all of their side dishes off the menu. Others ordered mac & cheese meals and all agreed that the food was not good.
We asked if there was a new chef and were told that there wasn't. So, I don't know what explains this turn for the worse. We were all very, very disappointed.
If the restaurant restores its previous food quality and fair prices, we would happily recommend it to others. However, currently the tasteless food, high prices, and very loud noise level means that I will need to cross this one off the list until they return to quality and value.
Great food, great service and overall great experience!
Took advantage of the dine then get in early to show deal. Great chicken wings and beer selection. After eating I was one of the first in the show to get my front and center spot at The OBSERVATORY whick BTW is an excellent place to see a show!
Had dinner before a concert. Great service, good food. Will do this again and definitely recommend to friends
Our menu choice were all delicious. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, the shrimp tacos generously filled, and the short rib sliders tender and flavorful. (I would have sworn the last time I was here, three came with my order. This time, I received two, despite there being three of the long skewers used to hold them together.) While the young lady who took our drink order didn’t know what a Boulevardier was, the bartender damn sure did. Kudos!
The food was pretty good. We had shared the Parmesan flat bread which was delicious and we also got nachos, however, WHERE IS THE CHEESE!? we only had a sprinkle of queso fresco and that is not nachos in my opinion. I received the short rib sliders which were great. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles which he enjoyed. My boyfriend got the grilled cheese and tomato soup. He said the grilled cheese was really good but the soup was not. I tried the soup too and it was very herby. Now I like herbs, but this was like basil overkill. I think they put basil oil or something that was pretty funky and not pleasant. My cousin got the mac n cheese which she complained had too much cheese. For us foodies, that is not a thing, but I must say this was SMOTHERED in half melted cheese sauce. The sauce was too thick and not really saucy. There was soo much coagulated cheese on the plate she ended up leaving about half. We should've saved the cheese for the nachos! haha! To end we got the pistachio bread pudding which was very good. It was hit and miss but overall not too bad.
Great service for all the food & drinks. It appeared at sometimes we've been served by 4 waitresses excellent
it was a beautiful day and great service, great prices at happy hour and i would come back again for sure
Everything was terrific. My wife and friends will be returning very soon.
Great service! Delicious food! Awesome outside table
Great location and first entrance inside the Observatory which was great. Amazing burger with Ahi Tuna and bacon a really good combo of flavors. Service was good but at times would not come back to refill. It was busy though.
Easy reservations and will be back when we are in the area
Went for a good late happy hour so It was great for late night night cap & snack!
From the initial encounter with the door staff and the interaction and attentiveness of the bartender and waitstaff, it was a great experience.
Perfect for dinner before a concert. Highly recommend. They get really busy, though, so be patient.
Amazing food and service. It is loud, so I wouldn’t recommend if your looking for quiet conversation, but great for a party atmosphere
It pains me to write less than stellar reviews. The food service world is brutal, and each establishment (and all of their staff) is doing their best to give great food and service to their customers every single day. That being said... we went to WCT for dinner and drinks prior to attending a show at the Observatory. I was excited because of their happy hour (4pm to 7pm!) and easy/early access to the concert venue. The experience just wasn't great, tho. Getting seated was an ordeal (host was far more focused on a private party), our server had to be flagged down by another staff person every time we needed something, our table was so close to the other tables we kept bumping into other people, the happy hour menu is so limited it's not really worth it, and the drinks are crazy expensive. The concert venue is amazing, however, and the drinks inside the venue are quite affordable. I'd go again - but with much clearer expectations for what the restaurant has to offer.
Enjoyed dinner before seeing The Head and the Heart. Great meal and drinks, very much appreciated the happy hour prices. Will definitely be back!
I was slightly worried when we arrived as it was rather empty but I soon realized it was a tad early. Within half an hour people were arriving and the environment was fun and relaxing for Saturday morning brunch. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Great food and great service :)
The loaded nachos with fries were delicious and you can’t beat $15 bottomless mimosas! The patio was a lovely place to eat brunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon!!
It was a full house for the show, so tavern was a little stressed. Our server, Jada, did a great job, was as attentive as could be. Food was served with little wait, was tasteful and plentiful. It was great since we only had to walk 30feet to get into the concert hall.
This place was very convenient if you are going to a show at the Observatory. The food was good and had variety. The staff was friendly and surprisingly efficient considering how crowded it was. The major downside is the noise level. It was very difficult to have a conversation due to the loud echoing noise from conversations.
Loved this place! The policy that the people who eat at the restaurant get in to the show an hour earlier than the general line outside is false, but it is true that the restaurant doors open before the general doors do. Great food and prompt service. Will definitely be coming back!
Great service. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable.
Enjoyed our first time there on Father's Day. DJ was playing tunes, service good, food and drinks were good too. Try the mimosa flight!
Brunch was amazing! Food was delicious and servings were large! Great location and service!!!
Making a reservation is a good idea,it's busy but worth it. Reasonably priced items. The staff are very nice and our waiter was funny and knowledgeable of the menu. I will absolutely be back!
It was great! The chicken and waffles were soooo good
I was looking for a restaurant to go to for my wedding anniversary, not in busy downtown SD. Discovered West Coast Tavern on yelp and was not disappointed! It was quiet when we arrived and we had the inside dining area all to ourselves. Things did get busy later in the evening since they had a DJ later that night. Took advantage of their happy hour when we arrived and ordered dinner after. Everything was soooo good! The Brussels sprouts were my favorite! Their flatbread was yum and pistachio bread pudding was the best way to cap off the evening. Service from Emily was good! I will definitely be back and bring all my friends!
Decent place for a bite to eat before a show next door. A bit overpriced food wise. $14 for two sliders and a huge handful of fries. I’d rather have less fried food and one more slider - or make it a burger. Wings were delicious!
Outstanding brunch! Can’t wait to go back. Food and service were excellent.
good happy hour deals, dispite an little issue with bill we was good. good service and great location
Graduation celebration! Tara was great!! Food was great!!
I can always count on West Coast Tavern when I am craving a mule or a night out, delicious food and drinks!
Made a reso for 5 for Mother's Day but showed up with 8 and they accommodated us no questions asked. Super friendly staff and comfortable space. Mimosa flight was delicious!
Food was good, service was good, noise level insane!
