The Charles Bar, named after hotel proprietor Charles Roulet, is the beating heart of Cologne's Excelsior Hotel Ernst. Long known among the people of Cologne, yet fortunately still an insider tip internationally: at Charles Bar, friends of great cocktails, wine, or champagne come together and lose track of time for a moment. Because that is exactly what Charles Bar is all about: time, and the opportunity to enjoy it. Roulet’s passion for gourmet cuisine shines through every drink and dish. The signature drink is the Charles Negroni, a mix of gin, Campari and Vermouth. On the food menu you’ll find a range of classics and vegan alternatives, plus of course our traditional gourmet beef tartare. Guests can look forward to the friendly service and bartending for which the Charles Bar is famous. And there’s an impressive range of wines and champagnes, including Limited Special Editions by international stars such as Lady Gaga and Lenny Kravitz.
