The Carpenters Arms, by Heathen Soul Brewery, offers an eclectic beer line up, natural wines, refined pub food and live music ranging from fireside folk to summer ‘All Dayers’. Nestled in Metherell, the heart of the Tamar Valley, the interior has been renovated to give a contemporary yet sympathetic lift to the beautiful old pub.Our food aims to showcase the best of our wonderful suppliers. We work with ecologically minded producers that share our passion for high quality food and drink. By working with networks such as Tamar Grow Local and The Good Food Loop our talented team of chefs are able to connect directly with local small-scale producers to create vibrant dishes from scratch.Whether we’re designing a menu, curating our wine list or brewing an IPA, we aim to remain ‘true to the craft’ – a mantra we’ve adopted along our journey from garden shed home brewing to the opening of our pub.

A relaxed, converted boat shed in Fowey run by husband and wife team Ethan and Hazel Friskney-Bryer, awarded a MICHELIN Bib in 2025/26. The daily changing blackboard menu centres around locally landed fish (often from the pontoon opposite - from sous chef Jordan Davies). Vegetables are sourced from the restaurant owner's walled garden, alongside two or three local organic producers. A small but thoughtfully formed wine list offers a few low-intervention options by the glass or carafe, with a slightly longer bottle list for dinner. Lunches are always walk-ins only with early bookings available for dinners on Friday and Saturday nights. The dinner menu retains its sharing-plates style, while becoming slightly more formal in offering than the lunchtime fare. One long communal table runs the length of the restaurant with a view of both the open kitchen and Fowey estuary, with counter seating also available for parties of two.

    Three courses of pure bliss! This is the second time we’ve been to Halwyn and it didn’t disappoint. The sourdough and dripping butter was excellent and the chicken tenders to start were surprisingly tasty with lovely flavours The sharing cotes de boeuf was immense- we bagged the last 650g to share between two and our son had the sirloin. His was cooked to perfection and very tasty and ours was lovely and chargrilled to the outside and perfectly medium with beautiful flavours. I love the chimichurri and ample salad and seasoned fries We squeezed in dessert - one of each the fudge cake and white raspberry cheesecake, both were a lovely way to finish the meal The restaurant had a lovely feel and the staff were super friendly. We’ll definitely be back…
