Stark is located in East Mersea, Essex and is owned and run by Ben and Sophie Crittenden, who opened their first site in Broadstairs back in December 2016 with the aim of securing a better work/life balance and enabling Ben to enjoy more time with their three young children, Ivy, Rosa and Arlo. Before relocating to Mersea Island, Stark was the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Thanet and one of five in the whole of Kent.At Stark, only one, set tasting menu is served with no options or alternatives available. Because of this, Stark is unable to cater for any allergies or dietary requirements, for any reason as all guests eat the exact same meal each night. Ben creates a menu from high quality, seasonal ingredients, using his creativity and passion to create delicious food and provide a unique and exciting eating experience for customers.​Stark is a very intimate, relaxed restaurant, whose only demand of you is that you sit back, trust us with your dinner and enjoy the experience.

    We went on a fairly busy Friday lunchtime and sat inside. The service was very good. We both had the House Menu which was delicious. There was a nice ambiance and we will definitely be going to The Sun Inn again soon.

    We have been going to Church St Tavern for quite a few years now. It has always been consistently great. The chefs have always kept the menus interesting and varied, and the wine list (and cocktail list) is exceptional with the staff really knowledgeable. What makes them exceptional is there care around allergies. My young daughter has 7 including severe nut allergy. Staff front of house and in the kitchen have always been accommodating and never made us feel like it was my daughter's fault. They care about what they do, their customers, and the food and drink. Couldn't ask for more.

    The food is always excellent, I had the garden plate whick has lots of different elements, yummy. My friend had fruit pancakes which ain't really my thing but I tried some anyway and they were delicious. Ambience and staff fantastic. Should be able to pay with cash and tip staff with cash. Service charge should be made obvious too.
